Check our website for details www.shorewoodwi.com 2 Shorewood High School D I R E C TO R ’ S N O T E S Welcome to LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, the opening production in the 2014-2015 Shorewood High School Drama Season! After opening with tonight’s delicious dark comedy, the winter will bring us the hilarious Neil Simon comedy RUMORS. Our high school season will end with the classic musical CABARET. Also, don’t forget our amazing variety show, Showcase next month. SIS drama will feature its own variety show, Show Circle and the 1980’s classic musical, FAME! We are very lucky to welcome two new excellent staff members to Shorewood Drama. Mr. Maylan Thomas joins us as our new Technical Director/Auditorium Manager. Ms. Sara Van Loon joins us as the new Costume Designer, while continuing as the director of the Shorewood Drama Junior program. Please extend a warm welcome to these talented artists. We were originally going to produce the musical AMERICAN IDIOT in this time slot, but when the rights did not come available for that show, we sought a similar rock musical with a fun, edgy style that would excite the students. Having directed LITTLE SHOP at my last school in Indiana, I knew that our actors would enjoy it. It has delightful characters, wonderful musical and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, and an exciting opportunity to work with puppets! LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is based on the 1960’s “B” movie of the same name. In 1982, the musical premiered Off-off Broadway and was a huge success. It has since had a Broadway run and in 1986, it was turned into a campy movie, starring Ellen Greene, Rick Moranis, John Candy, Jim Belushi, Steve Martin, Tisha Campbell, and Tichina Arnold. Our goal is to have the audience leave the show saying, “I can’t believe that was high school theatre!” We hope we have achieved that goal tonight! LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS has been a blast to produce and we are certain you will love this fun, little musical. I would like to acknowledge the support of Grande Flower Shop (Wendy Golden) for her willingness to open her basement to us. Many of the set dressings are from her shop. Please support her store (at the corner of Morris and Capitol) with your patronage. Also, the Shorewood Historical Society loaned us the (very heavy) Dentist Chair that you will see in tonight’s production. Thank you! Shows like this cost a lot of money…if you’d like to become a financial supporter of Shorewood Drama or a season ticket holder/patron, please contact Mr. King at [email protected]. Finally, thank you for your support. The arts are alive and well in Shorewood. Thank you for being an ambassador for arts education in our public schools! Enjoy LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS! Mr. Joe D.
