Who Should Attend?
Healthcare professionals who work with critically ill adults, hold current ACLS provider status and who have been
recommended to take the ACLS Instructor course.
Pre-Requisites
• Have a current AHA ACLS Provider course completion card;
• Be aligned with an AHA Training Center;
• Be proficient in the skills of ACLS;
• Complete the ACLS Instructor Essentials Course (online) and submit the certificate of completion. There is an additional fee
of $35 payable to the AHA for this. Go to http://www.onlineaha.org/ to take this course; and
• Complete an Instructor Candidate application.
About this Course
According to the American Heart Association, “the instructor course is an intensive course for those individuals who have
already successfully completed the ACLS provider course. This course is designed to train instructor candidates to conduct
provider and update courses on the latest AHA guidelines and skills set for ACLS. Instructor candidates should exemplify
integrity, demonstrate strong ethics, communicate clearly, and model a dedication to quality training”.
Objectives
Upon completion of the program the participant will be able to:
• Teach an ACLS provider course using the video and lesson maps;
• Successfully evaluate another student running a megacode while correctly using the skills testing checklist;
• Successfully remediate another student in ACLS; and
• Explain the requirements for maintaining instructor status.

Fee
$200 if registration and payment are received by January 8, 2015; $225 thereafter. Class size is limited to the first 12 paid
enrollees. Walk-ins are not permitted.
Payment Policy: SR-AHEC requires full payment for all registrations prior to the program date. We no longer accept purchase
orders or supervisor’s approval signatures in lieu of payment. Access to workshop materials and handouts cannot be released until
payment is received. Early and regular rates will be determined by the date of receipt.
Successful Completion Criteria
• Each instructor candidate will be given an assignment to teach at least one station and should come prepared on the day of
the course;
• Pass the written exam with a score of 84% or better;
• Attend 100% of this educational activity; and
• Demonstrate competency in each of the following: skills, course delivery, professionalism, and program administration.
Upon successful completion of both the ACLS Instructor Essentials Online Course and the Live Instructor Course, the
participant will be able to be mentored and monitored teaching in their first ACLS Provider Course. Upon successful
completion of the monitoring process the Instructor Candidate will be awarded his/her ACLS Instructor card by their Training
Center. Instructor status expires in two years from the month of issue. Instructor renewal requirements will be discussed
during the instructor course.

CEU: 0.7 hours will be awarded to participants who attend 100% of this event.
CNE: 7.0 contact hours will be awarded to participants who attend 100% of this event. AP#005-852A
Please note, awarding of continuing educational credit does not imply successful completion of instructor status. That will be
awarded once the instructor candidate is successfully monitored teaching in their first provider course.
Southern Regional AHEC: Department of Continuing Education is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by
the North Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on
Accreditation.
If applicable, disclosure of conflict of interest from the presenter will be announced at the beginning of the program.
The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed
instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship
by the American Heart Association, and any fees charged for such a course do not represent income to the Association.
Substitutes/Refunds/Transfers
Participants who register for the program and are not able to attend, may:
• Cancel 48 business hours before the program and receive a voucher for 100% of the registration fee for use at a
future SR-AHEC program; or
• Cancel 48 business hours before the program and obtain a refund for 70% of the registration fee.
Cancellations less than 48 business hours before the program are non-refundable. Participants who register for a program and
do not attend will forfeit the full amount of the program registration fee. Refunds are available if course materials are returned
unopened; otherwise the cost of the textbook will be deducted from the refund. In the event you/we cancel, participants may
choose to keep or return an unopened and undamaged instructor manual ($40); 70% refund and 100% voucher applies to the
registration fee only.
