All-City Band Auditions Monday, October 27th 2014 Boles Junior High School The time schedule for All-City Band Auditions is attached. You must find your own ride to and from the audition. Arrive at least 45 minutes before your scheduled time. Allow yourself plenty of time to warm up, find your room and have a good understanding of exactly what you will be asked to play. What to bring:    Your Instrument Your Music Extra Reeds, Valve Oil, Slide Grease, etc. Where to go:  Upon arriving at Boles, go directly to the Cafeteria. Any last minute room changes will be posted on the wall in the Cafeteria. At that time, look for postings of music and required scales. Play ONLY the music posted; no other music. You won’t make the band practicing the Fight Song!!!  Warm-up is allowed in the Cafeteria ONLY! Do NOT play in the halls or outside!!!  Find your room and check in at least 10 minutes before your scheduled time. Don’t be late! Things to Remember:  In the Warm-up area, do the same warm-ups you would do at home or at school, long tones, lip slurs, etc. Go over your required scales and your etudes. Warm up with other Shack students.  Don’t change anything! Play the music just like you have practiced it. If you hear someone that is better/faster than you, that’s fine. Don’t try to match them. There is more than one person on every instrument in the band, and they might just be playing a lot sloppier than you realize. Wind Players – You will play 2 major scales, the chromatic scale, and a small part of your technical etude in the 1st phase. If you pass, you will move on to Phase 2. If not, you go home. In Phase 2, you will play a larger portion of your technical and lyrical etudes. Be aware: there will be other students in the room with you for your audition. Percussion Players – Your audition will be divided into 2 phases: In Phase 1 you will play 2 scales, the double stroke roll (slow-fast-slow), and part of the mallet and snare etudes. In Phase 2, you will play a rudiment on snare drum, and play all your etudes. You must bring your own mallets and sticks. Results will NOT be posted until the next day, go home after your audition. Continue on Eastchase (Green Oaks) and take the left split just past Pleasant Ridge. Continue South past I-20 for several miles and the school will be on your right.
