This fall, we will launch our very first High School Fall Retreat. Led by a team of
caring adults, high school students will settle into a weekend retreat house, where
rest, conversation, service and worship are the agenda. Special thanks to the Straeb
family for graciously allowing us to use their home for this retreat! Because of their

COP’s Got Talent & Family Fun Night

Do you have a talent that you would like to share with your
church family? Then join us for COP’s Got Talent and

Christians Under Construction - Biblical Potpourri

Signers will be leading this class. Anyone from Middle School

We are a group of women who knit, crochet, sew and quilt
for local charities. We create baby sweaters and blankets for
Healthy Start and the Veterans Hospital; teddy bears for the
Sheriff and Police Departments and hats for the Resurrection
House and the Salvation Army. We meet on the fourth Friday
of each month, except in November we will meet on the third
Friday of the month. If you enjoy sewing, knitting, quilting
or crocheting, please join us. Knitting and crochet instructions

Agape Flights
Serving Christ by Serving His Missionaries
The most recent “Flightline” from Agape Flights reports:
“God’s transformational love is a matter of the heart,
from the inside out. At first glance, Agape’s most visible
transformation this summer might be the outside of the
hanger building. In an effort to care for the ministry home
that God has provided, the outside of Agape’s hanger
received a much-needed facelift. The leaky downspouts
were repaired, the rusty building was primed and painted,
the torn awnings replaced, the overgrown bushes and
trees trimmed and the parking lot sealed. The funds used
to complete the work were raised last March during the ‘Pie in the Sky’ pie auction,
and earmarked for the purpose of building repairs.” Among the eight visitors from
COP, several bid successfully and took home pies!
“The outside of the building has been transformed to more closely mirror the
excellence of God’s work, but where Christ’s transformational work truly matters
is at the heart, the ‘inside’ of the mission work, to ‘Serve Christ by Serving His
Missionaries’ in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas.”

For the week of October 26, 2104
Devotion: Use this resource at home to guide your household’s daily
devotions. You can do this alone, as a couple, as a family; in the morning,
during the day, or at night. Find a routine that works best for you.
Pray: Light a candle and open your devotion time with a prayer.
God of abundant blessing, you granted wisdom, wealth, and long life to
your servant, Solomon. Grant us wisdom, so that we may know your ways
and follow in your footsteps, for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Reflect: Reflect on the key verses from Sunday’s reading.
“Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your
people, able to discern between good and evil; for who can govern this
your great people?” It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this.
1 Kings 3:9-10
Study: Study the reading and consider the background.
Solomon was the first son born to David and Bathsheba after they lost
their first son because of David’s sin. David had many other sons with
other women, and many of them wanted to become ruler after David.
But the prophet Nathan, and Solomon’s mother, Bathsheba, plotted to
ensure Solomon would be king. Bathsheba appealed to David in his final
days to appoint Solomon king, and David agreed. Solomon succeeded
David as king.
As king, Solomon became the primary instrument of carrying out God’s
plan for Israel. God asked what God could give to Solomon. Instead of
asking for gifts that would serve Solomon alone, Solomon asked for
wisdom so that he could rule God’s people wisely, and with justice.
Solomon’s request pleased God so much, God gave Solomon wisdom as
well as riches and long life. As long as Solomon followed God’s ways, he
would continue to receive God’s blessings.

use your flaws and strengths to do God’s work?
Do:
By acting on what we learn, we make God’s word come alive. Do the
following activity this week.
Make a list of strengths you possess. If you do this activity with your
household, list the strengths of others and share them. Keep the list
visible this week so you can be reminded that you are God’s worker.
