Australia has more endangered
species than any more
continent!
Some reasons for animals
becoming endangered
Specific food and habitat;
 Many native animals are killed by
introduced predators such as cats,
dogs and foxes;
 Other introduced animals such as
cattle, rabbits and deers eat the food
needed by native animals;
 Expressive hunt, poachering,
ecological problems, etc.

Thylacine
They were
marsupials.
The last known
thylacine died in
Hobart Zoo on
7th September
1936. This day is
known as
Threatened
Species Day.
The Lesser and Greater Bilbys



The Lesser Bilby has not been signed since
the 1960s and it’s probably extinct.
It’s relative, the Greater Bilby is now
endangered.
The numbers have been reduced by fire
and foxes.
The Numbat
Is endangered because of habitat loss;
 Now it is found only in a few forests in
southwest of Western Australia.

Leadbeater’s Possum

Was not seen after 1909,
but was found again in
1961.
The Bandicoot
If their habitat will be change, they will
become endangered.
 Now it can be found on a few islands of
Western Australia, Tasmania and few places
in Victoria.

Lumholtz's Tree-kangaroo
Is a kangaroo that lives in trees;
 Classified as vulnerable.

The Australian Sea-lion
Vulnerable;
 Were hunted;
 Were found exclusively
in Australia.

The Dugong


Vulnerable
marine mammal;
It’s habitat is
warm shallow
water of the
northern coast.
