M’stool by Askman
My art is transparent and very
organic in its shapes, and often has
a white background. This means
that my expression is well-suited to
be shaped over furniture, walls,
ceilings, and floors.
When I go beyond the
canvas and paint on other
surfaces and shapes, I let the
background stand with the
original surface, so that the art
becomes a part of the
surroundings and doesn’t
dominate in the same way as a
painting. A painting is more
intense and insistent in its
expression. It has to be able to

stand alone as a separate and
independent experience,
whereas art as an interior
becomes a part of a greater
overall expression.

When e.g. I paint on
furniture, I take the furniture’s
design expression into
consideration. It shouldn’t be a
painting on a chair, but more a
decorated chair, which will stand
as a complete expression. It is
an interaction between colour
and shape.
