Below you will find an English overview of Leisure Activities in Esbjerg Area, Ribe and Bramming including addresses, minimum age for team registration and a designated Newcomer Buddy you can reach out to for starting up in each club. The Newcomer Buddy can help you with information about teams and will find someone to take you to your first club training and introduce you to your team, if you wish. In Denmark you will, in most cases, find shared men’s changing rooms and shared women’s changing rooms. The changing rooms often include shower facilities. Most Danes use these facilities for changing and showering, however it is important to stress that, in most cases, using these facilities is optional and it is perfectly acceptable to change and shower at home if you wish, for almost all activities but swimming. Most of the club websites are in Danish; however the outlined clubs welcome English speakers and below you will find an English introduction to each club. Many of the clubs which are established as associations are cheaper to join than the commercial clubs, mainly because the associations are non-profit and in many cases training is run by volunteers. Many indoor club activities start their yearly season around August or September and many outdoor club activities start their yearly season around April or May. Another way to get into club life is to volunteer for the kids’ teams, for example, by training the junior teams, making costumes for the kids’ theatre performances, doing the laundry for the kids’ training clothes, or joining the scouts on tours to help out with practical stuff. Most clubs offer 1- 4 training sessions for free before asking you to decide on a membership, and most club teams meet up once or twice a week during scheduled hours. Club life in Denmark is just as much about socializing as it is about spare time interests. After 4 pm, when you are wondering where to find all the Danish people, the clubs are where you need to turn. Clubs are where Danish people meet up, hang out, make friends and socialize. Most clubs have additional activities where members meet up for socializing events such as dining together, tours, shows or even summer parties or Christmas parties. The below list of clubs, which offer Newcomer Buddies, include both commercial leisure clubs and non-profit associations. If you have suggestions for clubs to be included, please inform us at [email protected]. You will also find a guide to many of the sport activities in Danish at www.nysport.dk/ or dbu.dk.
