A Personal Identification Number (PIN) must be obtained from an advisor before you can register for classes. To consult with an advisor, choose one of the following options: Attend a New Student Orientation session Sessions are designed specifically for transfer students. Advisors from your declared major will be available. For a list of dates, and to reserve a session, go to unco.edu/orientation. Your credits will automatically be evaluated after you’re admitted to UNC. The Office of the Registrar determines which credits are transferable and evaluates that coursework based on previously established equivalencies. Email notification will then be sent to you and your major department(s). If applicable, additional notification will be sent to academic departments responsible for reviewing new courses that don’t have established equivalencies. If any new equivalencies are identified, then another email notification will be sent to you and your major department(s). NOTE: Please save all Transfer Evaluations for future advising appointments. 4 unco.edu Academic Department Contact Information Accounting Kepner Hall 970-351-2855 Africana Studies Candelaria Hall 970-351-2685 Anthropology Candelaria Hall 970-351-2021 Art and Design Guggenheim Hall 970-351-2143 Audiology and Speech Language Sciences Gunter Hall 970-351-2734 Biology Ross Hall 970-351-2921 Chemistry Ross Hall 970-351-2559 Communication Studies Candelaria Hall 970-351-2045 Computer Information Systems Kepner Hall 970-351-2855 Criminal Justice Gunter Hall 970-351-2186 K-12 Education McKee Hall 970-351-2908 Pre-Med/Pre-Dental/Pre-Vet Ross Hall 970-351-2921 Dietetics Gunter Hall 970-351-2755 Management Kepner Hall 970-351-2088 Psychology McKee Hall 970-351-2957 Earth Sciences Ross Hall 970-351-2647 Marketing Kepner Hall 970-351-2088 Recreation and Tourism Gunter Hall 970-351-2403 Economics Candelaria Hall 970-351-2739 Mathematics Ross Hall 970-351-2820 Social Sciences McKee Hall 970-351-2929 Elementary Education McKee Hall 970-351-2929 Mexican American Studies Candelaria Hall 970-351-2811 Sociology Candelaria Hall 970-351-2315 English Ross Hall 970-351-2971 Modern Languages Candelaria Hall 970-351-2685 Software Engineering Kepner Hall 970-351-2088 Finance Kepner Hall 970-351-2275 Music/Music Education Frasier Hall 970-351-2993 Spanish Candelaria Hall 970-351-2811 General Business Kepner Hall 970-351-1233 Musical Theatre Frasier Hall 970-351-2991 Special Education McKee Hall 970-351-2691 Geography Candelaria Hall 970-351-2715 Nursing Gunter Hall 970-351-2293 Sport and Exercise Science Gunter Hall 970-351-2535 History Ross Hall 970-351-2905 Philosophy McKee Hall 970-351-2572 Teacher Education McKee Hall 970-351-2908 Human Services Gunter Hall 970-351-2403 Physics Ross Hall 970-351-2961 Theatre Arts Frasier Hall 970-351-2991 Interdisciplinary Studies Candelaria Hall 970-351-2929 Political Science McKee Hall 970-351-2058 Journalism Candelaria Hall 970-351-2726 Pre-Law McKee Hall 970-351-2572 Make yourself at home. 5 A place to call home. Check out the amenities and find more information at unco.edu/housing. On-campus living UNC boasts residence hall amenities and communities that are the best in Colorado. From historic halls with character and beauty, to contemporary towers with apartment-style living, you’ll find a home that fits your interests and personality. Academic and social learning are part of the UNC residence-life experience. We offer support and ways to stay involved on campus and focused on your studies; we understand that it’s not just a place to stay, but a place to live. BEAR FACT: Residence Halls offer 24/7 front desk operations and require card access to enter the building for safety and security. 6 unco.edu Your roommates At UNC, finding a great room and roommate is simple. We’ll send you an invitation to your BearMail account to join our Private Facebook Community. Once you join, you can chat and connect with fellow classmates who will also be living on campus. You may end up finding your ideal roommate through this private community. If so, you will receive instructions in your BearMail account on how to select your room via our online process. During this time, you and your roommate can assign yourselves to the same room. If you don’t find an ideal roommate through the private community, don’t stress. If you haven’t assigned yourself to a room during the online process, the Department of Housing and Residential Education will match you with a roommate based on your responses to the living preference questions in the room and board contract. Remember to apply before May 1 to get priority housing, and check your BearMail frequently for updates and notifications. To select your room in May, you must submit your room and board contract along with your housing deposit. Room styles — defined Suite Style – Single or double bedroom options, a common shared living room and a private bathroom, some with separate shower and toilet room within the suite. Apartment Style – Single or double bedroom options, a common shared living room, a private bathroom and kitchen within the suite. Community Style – Provides students with a more traditional style living option offering double rooms with community bathrooms and showers located on each floor. These halls also offer community TV/study lounges and kitchen areas. Plan your space From the moment the door opens, your room reflects your interests, style and vibe. Start thinking about your room (coordinate with your roommate to avoid duplicate items), and check your list against the guide at unco.edu/ housing/prospective/what_to_bring.html so you know what you can bring — and what you shouldn’t bring. Make yourself at home. 7 Find your community. Through Residential Learning Communities, UNC integrates academic and social learning into the residence halls for an engaging, enriched campus experience. Select a residential learning community that reflects your academic goals or interests. Majoring in biology? Choose the Biology academic community, where you can form a support network, join study groups and build on your academic experience by choosing to live with other biology students. Or, if you’re interested in global understanding, check out Ubuntu — an interest-based community that explores international experiences, cultures and food as well as study abroad opportunities. Transfer Community Connect with other transfer students, access campus resources, develop networking skills and seek assistance in major selection or other career advice. Leadership If you want to be a campus leader, involved in student government, clubs and organizations, or even participate in intramurals, this community will focus on developing your skills to support fellow students. Pet-Friendly* Going to college doesn’t necessarily mean leaving your favorite four-legged friend behind. Check out our pet-friendly community, one of the first to gain national interest for a pet-permitted campus community. Located in Lawrenson Hall, this community is limited to dogs and cats (along with other restrictions). Students are limited to one pet per bedroom and are required to either buy out their bedroom or have a roommate that agrees to the terms and conditions of living in this community. *Subject to change pending review of pilot program. 8 unco.edu Gender Inclusive This community allows students of different genders to live together in the same room. The gender inclusive housing option is ideal for students whose gender identification and/or gender expression varies from the binary gender paradigm, and for students who are uncomfortable living with a roommate of the same biological sex. Veterans and Military This community provides a supportive learning environment for our military/veteran students. Those who are current military or have previously served can request inclusion in this community and reside with individuals with similar experiences and interests. For a complete list of Residential Learning Communities available go to unco.edu/admissions/living. BEAR FACT: The Tutoring Center (TC) provides free peer-led tutoring services and academic skills sessions to UNC students enrolled in undergraduate-level courses.
