Dr. Leichter was Medical Director of the Columbus Research Foundation. His esteemed career has been focused on Diabetes. He has been the medical advisor to three NASDAQ companies, nine major corporations, four managed care plans, Emory University, Duke University and the Joslin Diabetes Center on the organization of diabetes care. Dr. Leichter has been a consultant to the World Health Organization and chaired the committee that wrote the International Plan for Diabetes of the United Nations. He developed the Kentucky Diabetes Control Program, the largest public health program thus far in diabetes in the United States. Dr. Leichter was a Fellow of The Center of Health Transformation of Former Congressman, Newt Gingrich. Courtney Pieczynski Keplinger leads Novo Nordisk’s public policy and reimbursement team. Her responsibilities include Medicare, Medicaid and Affordable Care Act policy and reimbursement issues, including coverage expansion and payment and delivery system reforms. Prior to joining Novo Nordisk, she was with the consulting firm Avalere Health, advising a variety of pharmaceutical and non-profit clients on health reform and reimbursement issues. She also did brand management work for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. Courtney received a B.A. in public policy from Wake Forest University and an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia. She lives with her husband and young son in Alexandria, Virginia. Dr. Peter F. Hoffman is a Medical Director in Personal Health Solutions at Express Scripts. He is involved in clinical product development, sales and marketing support for RationalMed®, Express Scripts’ premier patient safety product, ScreenRx ®, Express Scripts’ advanced adherence solution, and ExpressAlliance® , Express Scripts’ advanced care coordination solution. He also serves as the company’s physician interface for all of its clinical programs. Prior to joining Express Scripts, Dr. Hoffman had served for two and a half years as the Chief Medical Officer and a Senior Vice President of ProVantage Health Services. Dr. Hoffman completed a 30 year career in the Medical Service of the United States Air Force, retiring at the rank of Brigadier General. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He is also board certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology and has practiced as a clinical allergist. He holds a PhD in Basic Science in the area of Microbiology and Immunology. He is also board certified by the American Board of Medical Management and is a Diplomat of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Morgan Kendrick is president & general manager for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia, Inc. (BCBSGa), where he is responsible for the management of all health insurance business in Georgia. In addition, he is involved in corporate strategy planning and execution, and serves as the primary contact for state regulators to ensure compliance and manage any state-related matters. Having been with BCBSGa and WellPoint, Inc., BCBSGa’s parent company, since 1995, Kendrick most recently served as Vice President, Sales of the National Accounts Strategic Business Unit (SBU), serving its largest, Blue multi-state employers, who represent a growing share of the WellPoint’s membership. He also served as regional vice president of sales for the Southeast region of the National Accounts SBU, with responsibilities for new group sales and managing consultant relationships with national firms, and held the position of director of Group Sales within the Georgia plan. Kendrick holds a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University in business administration and human resources management. Dawn Smiley, MD, MSCR currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine. As a current faculty member in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Emory University, Dr. Smiley has been productive publishing manuscripts and text chapters, including the Washington Manual Type 2 Diabetes chapter, presenting at scientific meetings, obtaining grants to fund her clinical research interests, and teaching the housestaff and ancillary staff. Dr. Smiley has an NIH grant that funds her research focus in the area of ketosis-prone diabetes mellitus. She also serves as a co-investigator in several research protocols supported by Emory University and the Atlanta Clinical and Translational Science Institute that concentrate on the management of inpatient hyperglycemia/insulin protocols, the effects of free fatty acids (FFAs) on endothelial function and inpatient pharmacoeconomics. Dr. Smiley graduated from Fisk University with a B.A. in Biology, received her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1999. She subsequently completed a combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics residency program at the University of Cincinnati and later completed an Endocrinology fellowship at Emory University. Lynn Westmoreland was born and raised in Georgia, living more than 25 years in Fayette County before moving to his current residence in Coweta County. A true American entrepreneur, Lynn began his own building company L.A.W. Builders. While running his business, Lynn was elected to the Georgia State House, where he served proudly for 12 years. In the state House, Lynn developed a reputation for fighting for lower taxes and smaller government. He was eventually elected to serve as the Republican Leader, a position he held for three years. His hard work and dedication is credited as one of the major reasons the Republican Party was able to win the majority in the Georgia State House for the first time. In 2004, Lynn was elected to the United States House of Representatives for Georgia's Eighth Congressional District. After a long redistricting battle, the Eighth District was converted into the Third District, which stretches from the southern suburbs of metro Atlanta into Middle Georgia and down to Columbus. In 2012, Lynn was re-elected to his fifth term in Congress and in 2015 will begin his sixth term. Dr. Damon Tanton is board certified in endocrinology, diabetes, metabolism and serves as the Medical Director of Clinical Practice for the Florida Hospital Diabetes Institute. He has exceptional expertise in performing thyroid ultrasounds, fine needle aspirations of the thyroid and ethanol sclerotherapy, and specializes in providing advanced treatment options and minimally-invasive procedures for hormonal conditions. Dr. Tanton joined Florida Hospital in 2008 as a decorated United States Air Force Veteran. He earned his medical degree from the University Of Miami School Of Medicine in Florida and his internal medicine residency at Wright-Patterson Medical Center in Fairborn, Ohio. Following, he completed a fellowship in endocrinology at Wilford Hall Medical Center in Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. For his outstanding service to patients, our nation and while deployed abroad, Dr. Tanton received the Meritorious Service Medal and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. Currently, Dr. Tanton practices at Florida Diabetes & Endocrine Center located in Orlando.
