Welcome to Bioceramics 26
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 26th
Symposium and Annual Meeting of the International Society for Ceramics in Medicine
(BIOCERAMICS 26) in Barcelona, Spain, from 6 to 8 November 2014. The purpose of the
Bioceramics annual meetings is to bring together researchers and clinicians, in order to
establish an open forum for presentation and discussion of the latest advances in the field of
bioceramics research and their medical applications.
The conference includes sessions on new processing routes for bioceramics and biocomposites,
surface engineering and bioceramic coatings, biomineralisation and biomimetics, bioceramics for
drug delivery, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, cell and tissue interactions and
clinical applications of bioceramics in dentistry and orthopaedics.
Bioceramics 26 is held in Barcelona, one of the world's leading tourist, economic and cultural
centres. The city enjoys a prime location, bathed by the Mediterranean and very well connected
with the rest of Europe. Its geographic situation and the open character of its inhabitants are the
reasons of its vast cultural wealth. It has a valuable architectural and monumental heritage, the
most splendid exponents of which are its Gothic and modernist buildings. The city offers to the
visitors endless opportunities to explore and enjoy.
Have a nice time in Barcelona and enjoy the BIOCERAMICS 26 2014 Symposium.
Welcome to Barcelona!

Racquel LeGeros Award
The Racquel LeGeros Award is established to recognize, encourage and
stimulate outstanding research contributions to the field of bioceramics and
is annually presented during the Bioceramics International Symposium and
Annual Meeting of the International Society for Ceramics in Medicine. It
consists of a certificate, a plaque and a refund of the registration fee and
travelling expenses to the conference, in addition to an economic
remuneration.
The nominee must have contributed significantly to the knowledge in the fields of bioceramics
and biomineralization, where Racquel LeGeros was a true pioneer, through basic, experimental
and/or clinical research. He/She must in addition have largely contributed to the Bioceramics
Conference in the past, and be registered in its present edition.
Candidates will be assessed by an independent Bioceramics Award Committee, currently
chaired by Prof. Maria-Pau Ginebra, integrated by three members of the ISCM Executive Comitee
and a representative of the Award Sponsors.
The Racquel LeGeros Award has been sponsored by Biomatlante, Einco Bio and Himed.
