Practical Supplemental Training for Unit Adults
Cub Scout Leader Pow Wow is a supplemental training course for leaders. Because family schedules are much more crowded these days, Pow
Wow is being offered as a half day program offered just once per year—in
the fall. Leaders are encouraged to attend every year to hone their skills in needed areas
which cannot be covered in Cub Leader Basic Training Courses. Attending Pow Wow will
fulfil the requirement to attend a Pow Wow or University of Scouting for training awards.
Packs are encouraged to bring all interested leaders and parents to Pow Wow. It is impossible for one leader to cover all desired sessions. We recommend that your group cover as
many sessions as possible then get together to share what you’ve learned. To encourage
this we are offering packs who bring five or more leaders each 5th registration free. This
promotion is only available to those packs who pre-register. Walk-in registrations are not
eligible.
We ask that you register early so that our trainers can adequately prepare for their sessions. To encourage this we have a couple of friendly competitions. Our “Early Bird”
Award recognizes the first person to register for the course. Jeff Schopp from Fox River
District was recognized last November. We also recognize the district with the highest attendance—participants only (not staff) —pre-registered. Iron Horse District was our last
district. Who will win it this time??? Our goal is to have all districts represented.

Session 1
Activity Pin Resources
Webelos Leaders—there is help out there. You are not alone. This session will provide ideas
and resources to help your Webelos Scouts earn their activity pins. This session is recommended for 4th Grade Webelos Leaders and Bear Leaders who will move to a Webelos Den next fall..
Cub Scout Creations
Boys love to create—especially when it has a purpose. Fun, “hands-on” project ideas for your
den meetings that will help Cubs earn achievements. This session will give you the opportunity to actually try your had at completing projects. This session is recommented for Tiger, Wolf
and Bear den leaders as well as any interested parents.
How to Run a Den
Meeting—Tigers
Are you a new Tiger Cub Den Leader? This session will provide practical information on planning and running a successful Tiger Cub Den Meeting and help get your Tigers of to a great
start. Recommended for Tiger Cub Den Leaders and interested pack adults.
Planning the Pack
Program
This session will provide practical and proven ideas to help you plan a year-round program that
is fun and appealing to your Cub Scouts and their families and walk you through the Annual
Program Planning Conference process. Recommended for Committee Chairs, Committee Members, Cubmasters and all interested pack adults.
Session 2
Blue and Gold Planning
The Blue and Gold Dinner is the big Birthday Party of the Cub Scout year and can be intimidating if you’re new to the Cub Scout program. This session with provide the nuts and bolts
for planning a great banquet—from choosing the committee to the icing on the cake. Recommended for Committee Chairs, Den Leaders, Cubmasters and Committee members.
Developing the Pack
Budget
Okay—so you’ve developed your pack program for next year. How are you going to pay
for it? This session will provide help in developing budget for your pack that is both
practical and doable with proven ideas from successful packs. Recommended for Committee Chairs, Committee members and all interested pack adults.
Field Trips
Keep the "Outing" in Scouting. This session will provide information on activities outside your
pack and den meeting place that your pack families can enjoy year round. Recommended for
all Den and Pack leaders.
Games
Boys by nature are active and have lots of energy. Games help boys learn to channel that energy and work as a team in a controlled environment. This is a hands-on session that will provide can-do ideas that will allow your cubs to have fun and keep physically fit. This session is
recommended for all den and Webelos leaders.
Special Needs Scouting
The Boy Scouts of America provides Scouting programs for ALL boys. This session will
provide important information on special needs scouting and practical ideas to help you
work with special needs scouts no matter how they come to you and help them get the
most out of the scouting program. Recommended for all Scouting adults.
Session 3
Nature Activities
Every season is the perfect season to get your Cub Scouts outdoors to learn about the world
around them. This session will provide practical ideas that you can use to teach your Scouts to
appreciate and enjoy the natural world in an environmentally friendly way. Recommended for
Den and Webelos leaders and all interested pack adults.
New Cub Scout
Adventure Program
Get the “411” on the exciting changes to the Cub Scout Program going into effect in August
2015. Find out what’s changing and what’s not and what you need to know to present a quality program to your Cubs. Please Note: This is a two hour session and recommended for all Cub
Scout Leaders who are continuing into the 2015/2016 program year.
On-Boarding Families
Packs need to continually recruit new members to survive. Providing quality programs may
make this job easier—because boys want to join in the fun. But that IS the easy part. Now
you need to bring the families on board. This session will provide proven methods for onboarding pack families so that everyone gets involved and has fun doing it. This session is recommended for Cubmasters, Committee Chairs and all interested pack adults.
Pack Meeting Planning
Learn the basics of Pack Meeting Planning—song leading, skits, games—and how to put them
together to add oomph and sparkle to your pack meetings that leave Cubs and parents begging
for more. This session is recommended for Cubmasters, Committee Chairs and all interested
pack adults.
Skits
Performing in skits helps give boys confidence to get up in front of a group and have fun doing
it. This session will offer simple skits and costuming ideas that you can share with your den.
This is a hands-on session so you will have an opportunity to practice some of the skits presented to give you confidence in presenting them to the boys. Recommended for all den and Webelos leaders and interested pack adults.
Session 4
Ceremonies for Den and
Pack Meetings
Don’t be a “Ziploc” Pack! Your Cubs work hard on achievements and deserve awards ceremonies that are creative and special. This session will provide the help you need to provide ceremonies boys actually look forward to. This session will also provide helps with presenting
memorable Opening and Closing Ceremonies. This session is recommended for Cubmasters ,
Advancement Chairs, Den and Webelos Leaders.
Dealing with Behavior
Issues—Youth AND
Adult
Successful pack leaders know that running a good pack involves working with the whole Cub
Scout Family—meaning people of all ages. And in the Pack family, just like our own, disputes
and other issues can arise. This session will guide you in working through these issues to a
satisfactory conclusion that allows everyone to “save face” and ensures a successful scouting
experience for the boys. Recommended for Cubmasters, Committee Chairs and all pack leaders.

Songs and Sparklers
Many leaders are baffled when it comes to leading songs at a den or pack meeting. We often
hear “I can’t sing!” You don’t have to be a Diva to have fun leading songs. This session will
give you the opportunity to learn how to teach a variety of songs, applauses and run-ons and
use them effectively to keep your den and pack meetings fun and moving along. Recommended
for all Den and Webelos leaders, Cubmasters and interested pack adults.
