This is one of the biggest Hydro power projects taken up in Rwanda which will add another 30% to the present
installed capacity.
This Hydro Electric Project (2 X 14 MW) is built on the Nyabrongo River in Western Province in the Muhanga District.
80% of the project financing is through EXIM Bank of India on soft loan basis agreed between Government of
Rwanda (GOR) and India. The rest is of GOR Financing.

The Nyabarongo hydropower plant has been completed as of the 30th October 2014. Be amongst the first to experience this
project. The hydropower plant has a 28 MW capacity and will be connected to the national grid to solve the issue of power
shortages in the country. The construction of this hydropower plant is the biggest in the country; commenced in 2009 with an
invested capital amounting to $110 million.
