Newcastle School of Education is keen to recruit highly motivated and dynamic teaching
specialists to join the team within our rapidly expanding School of Education. The successful
applicants will join a department which leads a Centre for Excellence in Teacher Training in the
Further Education and Skills Sector and provides teacher training and professional development
for both the FE and compulsory sectors. The School also supports training for NCG staff based
in Colleges, work-based learning, youth and street engagement and Higher Education and the
successful candidate will be able to adapt and work productively with teaching and training staff
across these settings.
All applicants must have extensive teaching experience. We would prefer the candidate to have
teacher development/training experience but will train and develop the successful applicants.
The successful candidate will hold a degree level specialist qualification or equivalent and a
teaching qualification.
We are looking for applicants with teaching experience in one or more of the following areas;
• Maths, Science or Technology
• English, literacy or ESOL
• LDD/SEN
The successful candidate must be prepared to work flexibly, working in the evening and be
prepared to travel as part of their work to support professional development for NCG colleagues
across England.
There are two posts available: one full-time (37 hours per week) and one part-time (18.5 hours
per week) position.

Key Tasks:
To plan and lead the development and delivery of specialist teacher education
provision, including programmes for NCG staff
To contribute to the day to day operation associated with course delivery.
To carry out teaching and learning on ITE and professional development programmes.
To collate quality data and contribute to quality processes.
Summary of Responsibilities:
1. To deliver high quality teaching and learning (including tutorials) and undertake
the full range of associated administration, quality, preparation and assessment
processes.
2. To advise, guide and support learners to identify and achieve their learning
aims.
3. To write learner subject reports which clearly articulate how improvement can
be made and sustained.
4. To actively participate in the learner recruitment and selection process.
5. To fully comply with NCG processes
6. To use, access and update MIS data, including registers
7. To contribute to business planning and performance monitoring
Lecturer B Course Leader specific:
1 to 7, plus:
1. To effectively manage a series of courses ensuring high levels of learner
satisfaction, retention and achievement and progression (employment or
further/higher study)
2. To review and undertake curriculum development in terms of quality, such as
attendance, retention, achievement and progression, and modes of learning,
such as unitisation and e-learning.
3. Through use of college systems and processes, to lead on quality assurance
and improvement in: teaching and learning; assuring schemes of work; the
assessment process, including internal verification; self-assessment report
documentation; learner attendance, retention, achievement, progression both to
employment and further/higher study
4. To lead the assessment process for the courses and liaising, as appropriate,
with internal and external verifiers, moderators and other relevant external
bodies.
5. To timetable at course/curriculum team level including organising learner
groups and sub groups, staffing and accommodation, as appropriate.
6. To secure and contribute to a wide range of enrichment activities including
visits, placements, visiting speakers and other activities.
7. To effectively track and document learners’ progress including individual
learning plans
8. To maintain course files, course handbook and other course documentation.
9. To manage and participate in the learner recruitment and selection process.
10. To organise, chair and keep records of course meetings
11. To liaise with external agencies/organisations, with parents/guardians and
others as appropriate to the learner group.
12. To undertake the requirements associated with the recognition service
13. To collate and write learner reports and references.
14. To oversee and contribute to learner enrolment and registration including the
production and maintenance of course information sheets
15. To identify and order resources for the planning and delivery of the teaching
and learning experience.
16. To liaise with the appropriate manager over staff absences, inducting new staff,
learner disciplinary matters and complaints.
