HEADS UP - GOOD NEWS
AND BAD NEWS
The good news is we are
starting the construction on the drivein/drive-out/ drop off driveway - that has
been much needed for a very long time
on Monday November 10th. The
construction is estimated to last 5-7
weeks. This is only possible through the
generous contributions made by you to
the campaigns. Now, the bad news is,
while the driveway is under construction,
we CANNOT use the side sacristy doors
or the doors at the back of the Church
(basically any of the doors on the
Whippany Rd side and steps leading up
to the back doors). We will also need to
close the rear parking lot, near the
children’s playground. Therefore the
doors that will be accessible to the
church are: the Eden Lane door (through
the school hallway), the main school
lobby door and the doors that lead into
the Link. Thank you for your
cooperation...
Love and Prayers...
Fr. Sean

OLM TRAVEL MINISTRY
The OLM Travel Ministry would like your input on
two new trips that are being planned for next year.
The first is a two-night, three-day trip to the
Amishlands in Lancaster, PA and will include 2
breakfasts/dinners and a stop at the Sight & Sound Theater to
see “Joseph”, sightseeing and lodging. The second trip is a bus
rip to West Virginia for 2 nights and 3 days. This trip will include
2 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 2 dinners, plus include a theater show.
We will ride the rails on two different train rides through the
West Virginia countryside. The trips are planned for next April
and May of 2015. We will appreciate your thoughts and feelings
on these trips, or any other suggestions you may have. For
more info, please contact Carmen Blandino at: 973-887-1272.
LITURGY CORNER
The communion of saints is one
of those wonderful Catholic
teachings: It tells us that those
who have gone to God are still with us, all of us are part
of the Mystical Body of Christ. The epistle to the Hebrews
says we are “surrounded by this cloud of witnesses”
(12:1-2). (Saints in the communion of saints, does not
mean canonized saints but is an old term for those
committed to Christ.) We remember all the saints, official
and not, this month on the feasts of All Saints, Nov 1, and
All Souls, Nov 2. Parents can waste a lot of energy trying
to shelter their kids from death. I’ve even heard of
parents objecting to having their children taught about
the Crucifixion. Our society tends to shy away from actual
dead people: We have more memorial services and fewer
funerals; more cremations and fewer burials. We seem to
tolerate the dead, at a safe distance, only on TV and in
the movies. Perhaps we think if we don’t look at them,
the dead will just go away and take their uncomfortable
questions with them. Here is an opportunity for Catholic
parents to be countercultural, if we have the nerve. We
can take our children to wakes and funerals when
appropriate. Remember that, for young as well as old,
burying the dead is one of the seven corporal works of
mercy. We can keep the images and memories of our
deceased loved ones alive in our families. We can spread
the good news: Dying is not the end; love is stronger
than death. “Everyone is always alive to God”.
Have a blessed week! Lisa
FAITH AT HOME
Here is the 5th suggestion from a new article,
entitled “Ten Things That Make a Great
Catholic Family.” 5. Fight Fair... Great Catholic families
check tempers, are respectful of one another’s strengths
and weakness, and always remember that obstacles make
us stronger. Faith Builder - Create and display your
family’s rules for conflict. “No sulking, no lying, no
grudges, etc.”. (Don’t forget to watch for the 6th
suggestion, which will be in next week’s bulletin)
Enjoy your week! Lisa

GIVING TREE
Last Christmas, in addition to helping Our Lady
of Victories in Paterson, our parish adopted
over 50 families in need. We did such a great
job last year, Catholic Charities and Our Lady
of Victories has asked for our help again, and
after discussing it with Fr. Sean we have
agreed to help them. This year we will be doing it a little
different. There will be two trees, one in the Link and one in the
Academy Foyer. On the trees there will be Angels and Stars
with a specific gift on each. The trees will be going up the
weekend before Thanksgiving. The purpose of this early bulletin
note is to ask for volunteers to help set up the trees, collect, sort
and wrap the gifts. It is very easy work and it is also very
rewarding. If you are interested in helping or if you would like to
adopt a family, please contact Vincent LoBello at 973-738-9542
or email [email protected]
In the peace of Jesus and with a servants heart,
