With the end of the first quarter of school, it is time to announce the first quarter
Teacher & Para Outstanding Educator. Our Teacher had many nice things said
about her and here is just a few of them. “She developed the whole Math Envision program when the program was implemented four years ago. She has guided
many new teachers every year. She headed the NeSA development for the 5th
grade team. She has been a true advocate for our students and will stand up for
what is right.” Jill Domina is our 1st quarter Teacher. Jill is a 5th Grade Teacher
at the Schuyler Elementary School. Congratulations Jill on your hard work being
recognized!
Our 1st quarter Outstanding Para Educator has truly made an impact on many
lives! Cara Dvorak wrote “She is like a grandma to me except she is at school!
She is patient and kind and helps all student in every grade! I still remember her
teaching tricks for helping us learn how to read. She is a great para! Congratulations Marvine Koliha, our Para Educator and for 37 years of service at Dist 24!
You have touched many! We appreciate all nominations sent in and ask that you
keep nominating Outstanding Educators. Deadline for the second quarter nominations will be December 19th. I encourage students, parents, fellow teachers,
administrators, school board members, and community members to take time to
recognize a Teacher or Para you see doing a outstanding job at school and in the
community.
December 5th will be our next Chamber After Hours, and the start of our Christmas Holiday weekend! For more detail on these activities please read the letter
on page 8 of the newsletter and then return the form on page 9. These activities
need YOU! Without community support & help we will all be missing out on the
Christmas Spirit. Help us show why Schuyler is a great place to live and grow!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Celebrate America Recycles Day
At the Colfax County Recycling Facility
Keep Schuyler Beautiful is celebrating America Recycles Day on November 15th at the Colfax County Recycling Facility from 9 a.m. to noon.. Look for a pledge form at one of the following businesses or pick one up at
the recycling facility. Didier’s Grocery, Parkview One Stop, Casey’s General Store, Burrito House, Colfax Theater, Bomgaars, Chichihual Super Market, QC Supply, Schuyler Lumber and Gold Mine Restaurant. Bring

will receive a travel mug made from recycled content. Other promotional items will also be given away for
America Recycles Day.
Each year, the United States generates more than 250 million tons of municipal solid waste— that’s more
than 4 pounds per person per day. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, our nation has reached
an overall recycling rate of 34.7 percent. Our national recycling rate saves the energy equivalent of 229 million
barrels of oil. On that fact alone if you are not recycling now is the time to start.
The Colfax County Recycling Facility accepts #1 through #7 plastics, magazines, newspaper, mixed paper,
paperboard, phone books, shredded paper, paper bags, aluminum cans, steel cans and corrugated cardboard.
The recycling facility is also collecting Electronic Waste. A fee of 10 cents per pound is being charged to recycle
this product.

Dear Schuyler Community Members,
Mark your calendars for the first weekend in December! The Schuyler Area Chamber of Commerce,
The City of Schuyler and the Schuyler Community Development Board will co-host our business “After
Hours” on Friday, December 5th. Join us downtown at the Schuyler Municipal Building for a gathering of
food, drinks and fellowship!
The annual “Parade of Trees” sponsored by the Schuyler Area Chamber of Commerce, will also be
held at the Schuyler Municipal Building on Saturday, December 6th from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. An entrance fee
of $1.00 will be collected at the door. If you would like to provide a holiday item, quilt, tree, pillow, stockings or table settings, please return the form on the next page to our office. Set up of these items will be on
Wednesday, December 3rd & Thursday, December 4th, prior to after hours.
An integral part of the “Parade of Trees” is the “Wreath of Gifts”. Once again, we are asking for
donations of one gift or gift certificate to put on or near the wreath. Raffle tickets will be sold at all the
events on this weekend for $1.00 each. All proceeds received from the raffle and entrance fee will be donated to support the Salvation Army. A drawing for the winner of the “Wreath of Gifts” will be held on
Saturday, December 6th, after the “Parade of Trees” has closed.
We will need your gifts by 5:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4th for the “Wreath of Gifts”. You may
drop your gifts off at the Chamber office or Schuyler Municipal Building any time between now and the 4th.
If you are unable to deliver the gift, please call the office at 402-352-5472 and I will make arrangements to
pick up the gift.
Santa will be visiting with the children, Saturday, December 6th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m at the
Colfax Theatre. We will be having Santa arrive by fire truck again this year! Santa will visit with the children, one by one, about what’s on their Christmas list this year on the stage of the Theatre.
Your Schuyler Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors these events to help draw more shoppers to
Schuyler. Your generosity and participation is sincerely appreciated!
