Passions from the Pastor
Hello Hillabee Family,
November 12 will be my one year anniversary here at Hillabee and it has been a
wonderful year. I am thankful to be serving with such a loving and supportive church family. I
am looking forward to what God has in store for the upcoming years. I trust that God is going to
use Hillabee to do great things for the kingdom of God.
We are heading in a busy time, but lest we never forget where all our blessings flow.
See the story below of a lady who simply praised God for the many blessings of life. This is a
reminder that our prayers do not have to eloquent to be heard by God. Keep praising Him.
Pastor H.B. Charles tells the following story about a woman he knew who showed up at church and
prayed the same simple prayer. "O Lord, thank you Jesus," she prayed week after week. The kids at
church would start laughing every time she opened her mouth because they knew it would be the same
prayer—"O Lord, thank you Jesus."
Finally somebody asked her, "Why do you pray the same little prayer?" She said, "Well, I'm just combining
the two prayers that I know. We live in a bad neighborhood and some nights there are bullets flying and I
have to grab my daughter and hide on the floor, and in that desperate state all I know how to cry out is, 'O
Lord.' But when I wake up in the morning and see that we're okay I say, 'Thank you Jesus.' When I got to
take my baby to the bus stop and she gets on that bus and I don't know what's going to happen to her
while she's away, I cry, 'O Lord.' And then when 3:00 P.M. comes and that bus arrives and my baby is
safe, I say, 'Thank you Jesus.'"
She said, "Those are the only two prayers I know and when I get to church God has been so good I just
put my two prayers together, "O Lord, thank you Jesus."

Philippians 4:6 -7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving,
let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (NKJV)

Music Ministry – Bea’s Music Notes
Tuning Hearts for Spiritual Unison
by Mike Harland
In 2 Chronicles 5:13 it reads:
“THE TRUMPETERS AND SINGERS JOINED TOGETHER to praise and thank the LORD with one
voice.* They raised (their) voices, accompanied by trumpets, cymbals, and musical instruments,
in praise to the LORD: For He is good; His faithful love endures forever; the temple, the LORD’s
temple, was filled with a cloud.”
In this passage we see quite an ensemble of musicians and music. The occasion was the
dedication of the temple, God’s established place of meeting with His people. It was a glorious
day of celebration in worship of the God Who had been so faithful to His people, even when His
people were unfaithful to Him. There were singers, and trumpeters, and musicians of every
kind. And they all “joined together to praise and thank the LORD, with one voice.”
But just how do a cymbal and a trumpet play in unison? We’re not sure what the other
instruments were, but the idea that all these different instruments and voices presented one
voice to the Lord, well, that must have been a great deal more than musical uniformity --- that
must have been a “spiritual unison.”
I think the principle of “spiritual unison” compels us to go further with our churches than just
executing a finely tuned unison with our choirs and instrumental groups. To be sure, those can
be particularly effective as we perform our music to the best of our ability. But do we lead with
“spiritual unison”? Are we leading our people to worship with one voice?
If we want to see the temple filled with a cloud of God’s glory, I’m convinced it will take more
than music performed with precision. It will take a group of worshippers, joining their voices
and instruments --- a spiritual unison of praise to the God we love --- where the focus is not on
us but on Him and what He wants to do in our lives.
*Emphasis added.
MIKE HARLAND is Director, Lifeway Worship, Lifeway Christian Resources, Nashville, Tennessee.
My prayer is that our choirs and congregation will be focused on HIM!! But we must enter the
church to worship with a prayerful heart. Then listen as each word is spoken and sung. That we
will go and teach all nations!
If you like to praise God through music, we have a place for you! Come make a joyful noise.

In Step with the Spirit: FAITHFULNESS
Galatians 5:22-23
The focus this year is on the fruit of the Spirit, FAITHFULNESS. On November
3, 2014, Baptist women from around the world will come together to study God’s
Word, pray, and give so that our world will be impacted for Christ. The 2014
program has been prepared by the Baptist Women’s Union of Latin America
(UFBAL).
Mary Griffin and Melanie Veazey will be the leaders for this prayer event.
Come for a brief Bible study on faithfulness, a group prayer time for requests from
the seven continental unions, a time to worship through music, and an opportunity
to give an offering to the mission projects of the Women’s Dept. of the BWA. Be a
part of a world-wide event by joining thousands of women around the world. All
ladies are invited to attend.
