Butch, our Senior Vice, knows everyone and kept me up to date as to who’s who. I want to remind Men’s Auxiliary members that we meet every 3rd Tuesday of the month at 1800 out back. Butch Tuthill AMERICANISM CHAIRPERSON First of all, I want to thank all who came out to honor our veterans and Patriots at special programs and occasions during the previous 2 months. November 4 may be the last chance to save our nation from despotism and dictatorship, Your vote counts, so use it! November 10 marks the Marine Corps’ 239th birthday—please join us in wishing the Corps a Happy Birthday. On November 11th we will observe Veterans Day, previously known as Armistice Day, the history of this occasion dates back to World War I (“The War to End All Wars”). On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 an armistice between Germany and the Allied nations came into effect. In 1926, the United States Congress officially recognized the end of World War I and declared that the anniversary of the armistice should be commemorated with prayer and thanksgiving. On May 13, 1938, Congress declared November 11 in each year a legal holiday, known as Armistice Day. Originally intended to honor World War I veterans with World War II requiring the largest mobilization of service men in the history of our nation, along with American forces who had fought in Korea in 1954, VEW and other veteran service groups urged Congress to change the word “Armistice” to “Veterans”. Congress approved this change and on June 1, 1954, November 11 became a day to honor all American veterans, wherever and whenever they had served. Later in November, we will be awarding our Voice of Democracy & Patriot’s Pen winner, come out and listen to these future leaders. Sunday December 7th we will honor those men and women who fought and died or survived the onslaught of the Japanese Empire on that “Day of Infamy” 73 years ago. Check your calendars for other events and detail, exact time, etc. Until next year have a joyous Christmas and stay well. John. . Pg.6 Advertising Chairman We will be celebrating the Marine Corps.
