A Message From The
COMMANDER
Greetings to our VFW Comrades,
Ladies Auxiliary Sisters and Social
Members.
Here we are already in Fall. Summer
seemed to fly by this year, the grand
finale being the Post picnic. Thanks to
all who attended and especially those
who spent countless hours and worked
so hard to put it together and help make
it a huge success.
As we head into the holiday season I
would like to remind everyone of the
VFW mission and vision.

December 31 deadline to keep their
membership status in good standing.
New veteran member dues will follow

ans, the military and our communities.
To advocate on behalf of all veterans.
VFW Vision - Ensure that veterans are
respected for their service, always
receive their earned entitlements, and
are recognized for the sacrifices they
and their loved ones have made on
behalf of this great country.
I encourage each of you to attend our
monthly meetings on the third Tuesday
of the month. Please feel free to contact
me for any reason pertaining to the

A Message From
For the first time in history, the U.S.
Government has authorized a national
dental insurance program for Veterans
enrolled in Veterans Affairs health care
and individuals enrolled in VA's
CHAMPVA program.
VA is partnering with Delta Dental and
MetLife to allow eligible Veterans, plus
family members to receive care under
the Civilian Health and Medical
Program. The plans range from about
$8 for the basic up to $27 for compre-

Sub Sales - September kicked off our
sub sales and they will continue thru
November. The price will remain $3.00
per sub. Our sub helpers will take another
vacation December thru February and
return March 2015. Please get your
orders to the VFW by 6 pm the Wednesday that they are due. This makes it
easier to total orders and order all
supplies needed. This is our main
fundraiser event and we hope you will
continue to support the Ladies Auxiliary
sub sales as you have in the past. The
money raised enables us to pay our State
and National obligations as well as make
many donations to other good causes.
THANK YOU sub sellers and sub
makers, your time and effort is greatly
appreciated. If you have time on your
hands, please come help us make subs.

NEWS BRIEFS
Rumor Mill - Answers to recent rumors
heard in the canteen.
Rumor: Only family and friends of Board
members and management get free
drinks.
This is incorrect. All Veteran members,
Ladies Auxiliary members and social
members are eligible to earn free drinks
by volunteering to help with things that
benefit the Post. This could include
helping with a Post event or volunteering
to help with maintenance, upkeep or
beautification. Likewise, employees who
volunteer beyond their paid hours may
also earn free drinks if they are a member
of the Post. Members who attend the
Home Association Meeting also receive
chips for free drinks. Want a free beer –
volunteer!
Rumor: The Post has reduced the
amount of its donation to the Children's
Christmas party due to lack of funds.
This is incorrect. The question of rising
costs for the Children's Christmas Party



was raised by the Ladies Auxiliary and
after discussion it was recommended by
the Post that the gifts for children be
capped at $15.00 for each child with the
Post contributing $7.50 toward that cost.
Walk of Heroes - Tuesday, November
11 (rain date Nov. 13) at Papermakers
Stadium, Roth’s Church Road will be a
day that members of the armed forces,
police & emergency units will be honored
by individuals walking laps in the
stadium. The day will start with an opening ceremony, performed by our Post, at
6 am in the stadium, the track will be
available all day for walking laps and the
day will end at 6 pm with a closing
ceremony. Have a veteran in your life that
you would like to walk with? Please invite
them. Pledges for your walk are being
collected to fund the completion of the
Veterans’ Memorial Garden on the school
campus. Details & pledge forms are
available at sgasd.org & at the Post. Not
continued on back cover
