Library Gets Grants for New Computers The Southold Free Library is proud to announce that it has been selected as a 2014 grant recipient of the “Building Stronger Neighborhoods Program”, sponsored by the Long Island Community Foundation and the All for the East End (AFTEE) Fund. The projects funded by the program were selected because they are “...inspiring, actionable, relevant to the local community...and improve the lives of those who call the East End home.” The Long Island Community Foundation and the Board of the AFTEE Fund announced the first grantees of its Building Stronger Neighborhood Program this summer. “We received an overwhelming number of proposals from over 80 community organizations and it really validates the extent of the needs out on the Island’s east end,” said David Okorn, Long Island Community Foundation’s executive director. “We are very excited about this collection of organizations and feel it addresses those diverse and important set of needs within these communities.” The Library requested funding for new computers to meet the growing need for more computer access for its patrons. With additional computers the Library plans to offer patron programs relating to learning how to use computers, the Internet and email. We also want to thank New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle for his efforts and success in securing a grant for our Library. These monies will also be applied to our computer purchase program. In total, the Library has received $5,500 this season for new computers and is grateful for the financial assistance and the recognition. We look forward to working with our patrons in taking advantage of the funding. All purchases go toward supporting your community library by funding: The Book Cottage The modest little cottage is a frequent stop for many who are eager to browse through the unique selection of gently-used books which are donated on a regular basis.
