11/8-11/10/14, Taking Your Portrait & Figure
Painting to the Next Level. Visiting Master Artist,
Romel de la Torre will demonstrate every morning
on his approach to painting the portrait & figure
from life, using his direct fluid painting style with
heavy emphasis on the use of improving color,
drawing skills, value relationships, understanding
edges, and capturing the “feeling” of light.
12/13-12/14/14, Black and White Photography
Workshop, Talbot Island. Learning to See
Creatively with photographer, George Wilson
—The first step to creative photography is
developing the skills of composition and
perspective. This course is designed for the
intermediate photographer or the photographer
looking to break through a creative roadblock.
1/10-1/11/15, Fresh & Vibrant Paintings – Ellen
Diamond. Ellen is planning a workshop that will
emphasize the invaluable resource of inspiration…
photos artists have taken either locally or on their
travels. One’s personal experience holds the key
to expressing great paintings! Creating strong
compositions, the use of positive and negative
space, focal points, arranging strong dark and
light values and expressing a personal reaction
using vivid color and exciting brushwork are all
the elements that will be stressed.
1/24-1/25/15, The Layered Surface on Clay –
Meredith Host. This two day workshop will explore
surface decorating processes at different stages
of making, using simple forms and building layers
of visual information. Pre-bisque, we’ll experiment
with surface design using underglaze, paper
stenciling, trailing, incising, and screen-printing
with Thermofax and EZ Screens.
2/7-2/8/15, Abstract or Classic Painting from
Photographs in Acrylic. Join us at the Cultural
Center as Visiting Master Artist, Egi Antonaccio,
teaches a workshop on classical and abstract
Painting. His approach to realism or abstraction
brings a canvas to life with reflections of light and
offers students an incredible learning experience.
Painting with a palette knife and painting quickly
is more suitable for acrylics.
2/21-2/22/15, Everything Acrylic by Golden – K.D
Tobin, Golden Supplies. Come enjoy a free, fast
paced and informative presentation covering all
things Acrylic. We will cover a broad variety of
the wonderful world of Acrylic artist mediums.
There is a little something for everyone in this
presentation and every participant gets to take
home a very nice informational packet including
the hand painted Golden color chart along with a
small bag of product samples.
3/28-3/29/15, Plein Air Workshop by Morgan
Samuel Price. Each morning of the workshop a
painting demonstration is conducted on location
(weather permitting). All the aspects of creating
the painting are discussed and demonstrated
prior to the painting of the scene. The information
necessary for success in any genre is the same.
5/26-5/28/15, Oil Painting Portrait Workshop:
Kerry Dunn. This 3 day oil painting portrait
workshop will introduce students to drawing,
flesh tone and color exercises the first day and
applying these lessons to a two day long pose.
The drawing portion will focus on calibrating tilts
and distances, also known as proportions, which
are key to getting likeness. We will then build on
this by adding flesh tones in the light mass of a
few limited values in order to build the planes of
the head and begin modeling form.
9/26-9/28/15, Larry Moore Painting Workshop.
Each day Larry will demo a different approach,
from drawing to wash-in to house paint block-in
with unusual tools to developing a more stylized
and interpretive point of view. We will address
all the elements of good painting; drawing,
composition, color, value and the artists’ voice
with the added twist of starting each day with a
different frame of mind.

2/19-2/22/15, Saluda. “Problem Solving”. This is a
workshop designed to assist novice painters and
aspiring professional artists to overcome those
compositional or other issues which are “road
blocks” to reaching that next level with their work.
In this studio workshop, we will work individually
to identify and remove the barriers to making
successful paintings. Each workshop participant
can bring several incomplete paintings and we’ll
work to solve the problems particular to those
pieces.
