The streets, hotels, and venues will be taken over by hit songwriters, songwriters, fans, volunteers, and spectators of the festival. The SMSWF will be held during August every year to “celebrate our Appalachian musical roots.” The festival is a catalyst for encouraging a new destination for pro-songwriters and music lovers, increasing awareness of songwriters, and generating great retail and lodging revenue in our community. The Gatlinburg Convention and Visitors Bureau is a sponsor of this event. The SMSWF is a platform for songwriters to perform their original songs. The songwriters themselves will fill venues with ongoing performances for four days in downtown Gatlinburg. The songwriters not only perform but also share the stories behind their songs, many of which have had success on various music “hit” lists. There also will be a songwriting workshop, a songwriting contest and a band playoff. Our mission is to promote songwriters and to help their talents and songs be discovered not only by publishers and producers but also by all of us fans, who simply love the songs that the stars perform.
