Head Coach Dale Lindsey - 2nd Season
USD introduced Dale Lindsey as its new head football
coach on December 29, 2012. Lindsey took over for Ron
Caragher who moved onto San Jose State University. The
program's13th head coach, Lindsey directed the Toreros to
an 8-3 record in his first season.
"After Coach Caragher informed me that he was
leaving USD, the first person I met with was our Defensive
Coordinator, Dale Lindsey,” said Ky Snyder, USD Executive
Director of Athletics. “His knowledge of the game of football,
of our team, of transitions, the respect he commands from
both our coaches and players made him the likely person for
me to put in charge of our program while we searched for a new Head Coach. We knew
the characteristics that we were looking for: Integrity, belief and promotion of the studentathlete, great knowledge of the game of football, a recruiter who can identify talent that can
be nurtured, a coach of coaches and one with connections to build our staff; and, a person
who can be creative in moving our program forward. As we spoke to and interviewed many
coaches, we kept coming back to the realization that the characteristics and experience
that we were looking for, was already on our staff. We could not find someone with more
integrity, belief in the student-athlete and knowledge of the game than Dale Lindsey. Both
the coaches and players look to him to learn and draw on his experience. In his heart, Dale
Lindsey is a teacher and a leader. That fits the University of San Diego and our Football
program. I am very excited to introduce Dale Lindsey as our new Head Football Coach of
the University of San Diego.”
Lindsey returned to USD’s staff for the 2012
season where he was the program’s defensive coordinator.
The Toreros finished the season with an overall record of
8-3 and earned a share of the Pioneer Football League
title with Butler and Drake with 7-1 records. The Toreros
won their final six games, and among 121 FCS teams in
the country, USD ranked 14th in scoring defense (19.27),
15th in rushing defense (120.0) and 19th in pass efficiency
defense (114.56).
From 2009-2011 Lindsey was at New Mexico
State University where he was assistant head coach
and linebackers coach. Prior to NMSU, he spent his first
season with the USD staff in 2008, where he was the
Torero linebackers coach. That season Lindsey helped
the 9-2 Toreros’ defense hold its opponents to just 18.9 points a game and 322 yards of
total offense per contest.
Lindsey brings a wealth of football experience as a former NFL player and coach.
His resume includes over 30 years of football coaching at the high school, college and
professional ranks. Most recently with the Washington Redskins (2004-06), Lindsey also spent
time on the San Diego Chargers staff as defensive coordinator (2002-03) and linebackers
coach (1992-96).
From 1992-96, Lindsey was the linebackers coach on the Chargers’ defensive
staff that helped guide the team to a pair of AFC West titles (1992 and 1994), three playoff
appearances (1992, 1994 and 1995) and one AFC Championship (1994). Lindsey also spent
time with the Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay
Packers.
Lindsey played both linebacker and fullback for two years at Western Kentucky,
helping the 1963 Hilltoppers to a 10-0-1 mark and the Tangerine Bowl Championship.
Overall, the two Topper teams (1963-64) he played on went 16-3-2. A two-time All-OVC
pick, he earned All-America honors as a linebacker in 1964 and was named to the all-time
OVC Team in 1988. A Bowling Green (Ky.) High product, he was drafted
by the Cleveland Browns (in the seventh round) and by the New York
Jets of the American Football League (sixth round) in 1965 and went on
to play nine seasons at linebacker for the Cleveland Browns (1965-73).
In 2008, Lindsey was inducted into the Kentucky Athletic Hall of
Fame in Louisville, Kentucky. Lindsey and his wife, Eva, reside in Rancho
Bernardo, and have five children - Blan, Jennifer, Kim, Johnny and Derek.

PFL TIEBREAKER MODIFIED: The PFL automatic qualifier
tiebreaker was modified during the league's August president's
council meeting. In 2014, the league will no longer use computer
rankings to determine its automatic qualifier. Instead, the league
will use a "Strength of Victory" and "Strength of Schedule" both based on conference games only - to help determine its
representative in the FCS Championship. The complete PFL
tiebreaker is available online at pioneer-football.org/tiebreaker.
NCAA DIVISION I FCS PLAYOFFS: For the second straight year,
the Pioneer Football League regular-season champion will receive
an automatic bid into the Division I Football Championship.
Last season the championship

committee will selec t eight
national seeds, which will receive
a first-round bye. The remaining
16 teams will be placed into the
first round spots with emphasis on
geographical proximity.
GAME BY GAME RECAPS (1-3)
(GAME #1 - SEPTEMBER 6TH) TOREROS HOLD OFF WESTERN NEW MEXICO 23-17: The 2014 version of the USD Toreros won their season
opener over the visiting Western New Mexico Mustangs by the score of 23-17 before a crowd of 4,064 at Torero Stadium. It marked the 4th straight
season USD has downed the Mustangs in their home opener, and the third straight year it went down to the wire. Sophomore quarterback Keith
Williams and running back Jonah Hodges paced the Torero offensive efforts, and the USD defense came up big at the end when it needed to.
Williams, who edged out Trey Wheeler for the starting nod at quarterback after a very close battle in camp, turned in a solid rookie starting debut.
He completed 12-of-25 passes for 203 yards and two TDs, and chipped in with 59 yards rushing on 8 carries. Williams’ two touchdown passes
were big plays as he connected with senior wide receiver Brandon White for 74 yards in the 1st quarter, and senior Reggie Bell for 61 yards in
the 2nd quarter. Hodges, a first-year player who transferred in from Cal, totaled 120 yards on 23 carries with 1 score. At the halftime break the
Toreros held a 16-3 advantage with junior kicker David Last nailing a 20-yard field goal with 4:16 to go. WNMU’s lone score of the first half came
on a 30-yard FG from kicker Josh McIntire early in the 2nd period. USD extended its lead to 23-3 on an 11-yard rushing score from Hodges with
10:16 to go in the 3rd period that culminated a 7-play, 40-yard drive. It was the only points scored during the period. For the third straight season
the visiting Mustangs rallied late and got themselves back in contention. Junior QB Mitch Glasmann (Temecula, Calif.) tossed two touchdown
passes to Marcus Smith (15 yards; 13:46 to go) and Donald Byrd (31 yards; 5:19 to go) to pull within 23-17. In between those two scores WNMU
was threatening to score but a Glasmann pass to the left corner of the endzone was picked off by corner back Devyn Bryant with 8:44 to go in the
game. Following Byrd’s score with 5:19 to go, the Mustang defense forced the Toreros to punt following a three-and-out. WNMU marched down
the field again all the way to the San Diego 14-yard line, but eventually faced a 4th-and-7 from the 17-yard line and Glasmann’s pass attempt to
Smith was incomplete and Torero lineman Jamal Newman was credited with a quarterback hurry. Glasmann finished the night 26-of-51 for 280
yards and 2 scores, while RB Marques Rodgers tallied 97 yards on 18 carries. For the game USD totaled 371 yards of offense (168 rush, 203 pass)
while the Mustangs finished with 431 yards of offense (151 rush, 280 pass). In addition to Williams and Hodges, senior receiver Brandon White
caught 5 balls for 122 yards (1 score) and senior receiver Reggie Bell finished with 5 catches for 78 yards and 1 score. Defensively the Toreros were
paced by redshirt sophomore linebacker Nic Henson (12 tackles), senior corner Toney Sawyer (9 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 break-up) and senior
linebacker Una Hamala (8 stops).
(GAME #2 - SEPTEMBER 13TH) TOREROS DROP PFL OPENER TO JACKSONVILLE 35-18: The USD football team (1-1, 0-1 PFL) opened the
Pioneer Football League season with a tough 35-18 loss at Jacksonville Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins gained 447 yards of total offense, while
forcing four Torero turnovers and holding USD to 281 yards. Sophomore quarterback Keith Williams struggled in his first career road start, going
11-for-27 for 137 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. Jonah Hodges ran for 88 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown. The Dolphins cracked the scoreboard first. After being forced to punt in the game’s opening drive, Toney Sawyer fumbled the return at the Torero 23 yard
line. Jacksonville scored three plays later on a 16-yard pass from Kade Bell to Andrew Robustelli. The Dolphins added to their total with a 10-play
92-yard drive, keyed by a Torero personal foul that negated a Jamal Agnew interception. After a 39-yard pass from Bell to Dorian Guy, Ulysses
Bryant scored on a five-yard touchdown run to give Jacksonville a 14-0 lead. The Torero offense struggled early, failing to get a first down on their
first two drives. However, USD’s third drive started at the Dolphins’ 43 after Troy McClelland forced a fumble of running back Ulysses Bryant. A
roughing the passer penalty against Jacksonville on third down kept the Torero drive alive and eventually Williams found receiver Brandon White
in the endzone for a nine-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 14-7. The Toreros forced another fumble on the following Dolphins’ possession, taking
over at the JU 16-yard line after Steven Spencer knocked the ball loose from Andy Jones. However, USD gained just one yard in three plays and
had to settle for a 33-yard David Last field goal. The Dolphins added one more touchdown before halftime, scoring on another Bryant rushing
touchdown, this one from four yards out. The Dolphins scored quickly in the second half, opening the lead to 28-10. Orlando Thomas scampered
for a 23-yard touchdown run to cap off a four-play 57-yard scoring drive. The Toreros cut into the Dolphins’ lead early in the fourth quarter when
Jonah Hodges scored on an eight-yard touchdown run. Williams converted the two-point conversion by connecting with DeAngelo Barksdale,
bringing the score to 28-18. The Dolphins answered right back with a seven-play 83-yard drive that ended with another Dorian Guy touchdown
reception to give Jacksonville a 35-18 lead. Defensively, the Toreros were led by Una Hamala’s 13 total tackles. Troy McClelland added ten tackles
(1.5 for loss) and forced a fumble. Nic Henson chipped in with seven tackles and recorded the Toreros’ only sack, while Jamal Agnew tallied his
first interception of the 2014 season.
(GAME #3 - SEPTEMBER 20TH) TOREROS DOWN PRINCETON 39-29: The USD Toreros earned a hard-fought 39-29 home victory over the Princeton Tigers before 3,324 fans at Walter J. Zable Field at Torero Stadium. With the win the Toreros improve to 2-1 on the season while Princeton, the
2013 Ivy League champions, fall to 0-1. It was a great Torero team effort from all three phases that got the Toreros back on the winning track. Sophomore QB Keith Williams passed for 277 yards and 4 touchdowns, and senior WR Reggie Bell hauled in 4 passes for 186 yards and two scores. The
Toreros jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter behind a Keith Williams 10-yard pass to senior Brandon White, and a 1-yard rushing score
by Williams. USD’s first score of the game was helped by a big pass play from Williams to Bell for 82 yards. Princeton got on the scoreboard just
before the end of the first period when QB Quinn Epperly rushed in from 12-yards out untouched. In the second quarter Princeton’s Joe Rhattigan
rushed in from 12-yards out but Tigers missed on their two-point conversion for the second straight attempt to trail 14-12. For USD, Bell hauled in
a 29-yard touchdown pass from Williams to extend their lead to 21-12 with 6:36 to go in the half. Princeton’s Nolan Bieck converted on a 34-yard
field goal to finish off an 11-play, 58 yard drive for the 21-15 intermission score. The Tigers opened up the second half with a 4-yard touchdown pass
from Epperly to WR Matt Costello just 1:07 into the half to take their first lead of the game at 22-21. Once again Williams and Bell connected for a
score, this time for 48-yards with 5:25 left in the third period for a 29-22 advantage. From there USD would hold onto the lead. The fourth quarter
saw USD’s D’Angelo Barksdale score on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Williams, and David Last kick a 22-yard field goal for a 39-22 advantage.
Princeton closed out the game scoring with a 22-yard reception by Seth DeValve that was thrown by Epperly. For the Toreros Bell finished with 245
all-purpose yards (186 receiving, 59 punt return). Bell’s 186 yards receiving came on just 4 receptions. Brandon White had 5 catches for 86 yards
and 1 score – it marked White’s 8th straight game with a touchdown reception. Williams completed 10-of-24 for 277 yards and his 4 touchdowns.
Defensively USD was paced by CB Toney Sawyer (7 tackles, 1 interception, 3 pass break-ups), LB Una Hamala (6 stops), safety Troy McClelland
(6 stops), safety Matt Miller (6 tackles) and CB Jamal Agnew (4 stops, 1 interception, 3 pass break-ups). Princeton’s Quinn Epperly was 25-53 for
237 yards and 2 scores. Wide receiver Seth DeValve hauled in 9 passes for 123 yards and 1 score. The Tigers ground attack was paced by DiAndre
Atwater with 80 yards on 10 carries. For the game USD totaled 403 yards of offense while holding Princeton to 370. USD punter Ryan Belden had
a busy day punting 11 times for 400 yards (36.4) with 3 inside of the Princeton 20-yard line.
GAME BY GAME RECAPS (4-6)
(GAME #4 - SEPTEMBER 27TH) TOREROS ESCAPE WITH 20-16 WIN AT MARIST: Sophomore quarterback Keith Williams found a wide open
Reggie Bell down field with just five seconds left for a 36-yard touchdown score to propel the Toreros to a 20-16 comeback victory. USD was facing
a 4th and 6 with no timeouts left and Williams rolled left and somehow Bell broke free down field close to the end zone. The win keeps USD's alltime record against Marist a perfect 10-0, however, this game was typical of previous close battles with the Red Foxes. This marks the fourth time in
the last six games that USD has scored to go ahead within the final minute of play. USD trailed 13-3 entering the second half and Chris Campano's
2-yard TD rush with 9:46 to go pulled the Toreros within 13-10. Leading up to that score was a key 4th down conversion by Williams on his own
2-yard rush that kept the drive alive. The Torero defense played a key role in the comeback as they came out in the second half and stopped the
Red Foxes on three straight possessions. A David Last 20-yard field goal early in the 4th period knotted the score at 13-all. That Torero score was
set-up when Jonathan Petersen sacked Marist QB Anthony Francis for a 9-yard loss and fumble, and LB Nic Henson fell on it to begin USD's possession with 1:26 left in the third period. Marist scored the game's first 13 points with scores in each of the quarters. Quarterback Anthony Francis
connected with WR Armani Martin for 34 yards and the game's first score with 5:56 left in the first quarter. The Red Fox defense scored the second
one as Demetrius Williams scooped up a Williams fumble and rambled in from 34 yards out for the 13-0 lead. A 25-yard field goal by Marist kicker
Mike Maccarone with 9:15 left in the game gave the Red Foxes a 16-13 lead that held until the Toreros last second heroics. USD's lone score of the
first half came on a 23-yard field goal from David Last with 1:55 left in the half. That closed out an impressive 15-play 74-yard drive by the Toreros
that was highlighted by a 4th down conversion that kept the drive alive. Quarterback Keith Williams connected with WR Reggie Bell for 4 yards
at the Marist 27-yard line. USD had a first and goal from the Marist three but were unsuccessful on three straight rushing attempts and settled for
the Last field goal. For the game for USD Williams completed 18-27 passes for 227 yards. Three receivers hauled in 4 catches - Reggie Bell (78 yards,
1TD), Brandon White (63 yards) and Jonah Hodges (22 yards). Hodges also led the ground attack with 90 yards on 24 carries. Defensively USD was
paced by LB Una Hamala (10 tackles), LB Nic Henson (9 tackles, 1 fumble recovery), safety Joe LaBarbera (7 stops) and DE Jonathan Petersen (5
tackles, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles).
(GAME #5 - OCTOBER 11TH) HODGES LEADS TOREROS PAST STETSON HATTERS 31-23: – USD sophomore running back Jonah Hodges
rushed for 273 yards and 2 scores on just 17 carries in leading the Toreros (4-1, 2-1 PFL) to a 31-23 victory over the visiting Stetson Hatters (2-4, 0-2
PFL) before 3,405 homecoming fans at Torero Stadium. Hodges opened the game’s scoring with a 53-yard touchdown run on USD’s first play of
their first possession just 1:49 into the contest. And with the Toreros holding just a 24-23 lead in the final quarter, Hodges busted loose for a 56-yard
touchdown run with 8:29 to go for the final 31-23 winning score. He snapped Sammy Croom’s long standing mark of 271 set in 1972 against Azusa
Pacific. Redshirt junior quarterback Trey Wheeler was making his first Torero start as he filled in for sophomore QB Keith Williams (injured hand).
Wheeler completed 18-of-31 passes for 153 yards and 2 scores. He connected with freshman TE Ross Dwelley with 2:06 left in the half to pull the
Toreros to within 16-14 at the intermission break. His biggest completion of the day came with 10:07 to go in the game. Facing a 4th-and-4 from
the Stetson 6-yard yard and the team trailing 23-17, the Toreros went for it and Wheeler threaded a pass thru the Stetson defense with Reggie
Bell making a fantastic grab in the right corner for the go-ahead score. After USD took an early 7-0 lead, the early part of the game was marred by
Torero turnovers. Stetson took advantage of the miscues and eventually went ahead by the score of 16-7. Hatter QB Ryan Tentler connected with
WR Kegan Moore for a 31-yard score that knotted the game at 7-all; Grant Amick kicked a 27-yard field goal; and RB Cole Mazza found the end zone
from 3-yards out. Following intermission the lone score of the third period came from junior kicker David Last on a 28-yard field goal that put USD
ahead 17-16. Stetson’s Tentler threw his second touchdown of the game with 12:44 to go when he connected with Jonathan Strahl from 2 yards
out. With USD leading 24-23, the Torero defense held the Hatters to a three-and-out that set-up Hodges’ final touchdown run. Late in the game the
Hatters were moving the ball down the field and got to the Torero 19-yard line. Torero LB Nic Henson hit Stetson RB Dre Long on the 12-yard line
and forced a fumble that was scooped up by Joe LaBarbera. USD would eventually punt away and the Hatters would get one more chance with
2:08 to go. Facing a 2nd-and-6 from the Torero 42 yard line, Tentler threw long to the end zone but senior CB Toney Sawyer intercepted in the end
zone to close out the threat. For the game the Toreros totaled 455 yards of offense (302 rush, 153 pass), while the USD defense held the Hatters to
300 yards (179 rush, 121 pass). Besides Hodges and Wheeler, Brandon White pulled down 7 receptions for 65 yards, and Ross Dwelley caught 4
balls for 27 yards and a score. Defensively for USD, Nic Henson totaled a game-high 13 tackles to go with his forced fumble, and Joe LaBarbera
was credited with two fumble recoveries. Stetson was paced by QB Ryan Tentler who completed 16-of-28 passes for 121 yards and 2 scores, and
added 118 yards rushing on the ground on just 8 carries. Wide receiver Chris Crawford caught 5 balls for 41 yards and Donald Payne chipped in
with 10 tackles. The Toreros were wearing purple game apparel in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
(GAME #6 - OCTOBER 18TH) TOREROS HOLD OFF BUTLER 27-21: The USD Toreros won their fourth straight game as they earned a hard-fought
27-21 win over the host Butler Bulldogs (3-4; 1-3 PFL). The win improves USD's season mark to 5-1, and moves their PFL record to 3-1. Sophomore
QB Keith Williams was back in the starting lineup and finished the day 20-of-28 for 251 yards and 1 score. He connected with WR Brandon White
nine times for 93 yards, and Reggie Bell three times for 91 yards. Running back Jonah Hodges carried the ball 19 times for 40 yards, while Parker
Mays added 34 yards and 1 TD on just two carries. Defensively the Toreros were paced by Jamal Agnew (2 interceptions), Joe LaBarbera (8 tackles), Matt Miller (7 tackles), Troy McClelland (7 stops) and Una Hamala (7 tackles). For the game USD totaled 362 yards of offense (251 pass, 111
run). Butler QB Malcolm Weaver finished 22-45 for 208 yards and 2 TDs. In the first half the Toreros played well in all three phases of the game in
taking a 21-0 intermission lead. It started with a Jamal Agnew interception in the end zone on Butler's first possession at just under the 10 minute
mark. Both teams would go scoreless in the first quarter, but the Toreros would get untracked in the second period. USD's first score came on a
4-yard pass to TE Ross Dwelley from QB Keith Williams with 6:44 to go. That culminated a 9 play, 51-yard drive for the Toreros. On Butler's next
possession DE Jonathan Petersen sacked QB Malcolm Weaver on a third-and-14 that forced the Bulldogs to punt away. Four plays and 34 yards
later Torero fullback Chris Campano blasted in from 2 yards out to put San Diego up 14-0. USD's final score was set-up when the Bulldogs fumbled
away their punt attempt. Taking over on the Bulldog 42 with 1:41 to go, USD scored again on just four plays. Facing a third-and-3 from the 21-yard
line, Parker Mays took a handoff and swept around the left side and up the sideline for a 21-yard touchdown run. David Last's third straight PAT
kick made it 21-0. Keith Williams, who sat out the Stetson victory with a hand injury, completed 11-of-14 for 150 yards and 1 score in the first thirty
minutes of action. The second half started with a Butler interception off a pass from Keith Williams. BU's Ethan Brunhofer returned it 24 yards to
the USD 17-yard line. On their first play from scrimmage the Bulldogs' Guy DiBalsamo hauled in a 17-yard TD pass from QB Malcom Weaver for their
first score. On USD's second possession Williams was picked off again, this time by Bulldog captain JoJo Ciancio, but their ensuing drive was brief
as the Torero defense forced them to punt away. The Toreros would eventually get on the scoreboard with 2:28 to go in the third on a 34-yard field
goal from David Last. Butler would answer at the 1:05 mark as DiBalsamo would bust loose for his second score of the game, this time a 57-yard
rushing score to make it 24-14. Early in the 4th period Jamal Agnew collected his second interception of the game, and fourth of the season, with
12:48 to go. David Last notched his second field goal, this time from 24 yards, with 4:19 to go for a 24-14 advantage. Butler closed out the scoring
with a 25-yard pass play from Weaver to WR Derek O'Connor.
GAME BY GAME RECAPS (7-9)
(GAME #7 - OCTOBER 25TH) TOREROS RALLY TO BEAT DAYTON 40-29: The USD Toreros overcame a sluggish start and early 13-0 deficit to rally
for a hard-fought 40-29 victory over the Dayton Flyers. The win was USD’s fifth straight and improves their overall record to 6-1 and 4-1 in the PFL
standings. The visiting Dayton Flyers saw their 4-game win streak end as they fall to 5-2 and 3-1. It was the total team defensive effort that kept the
Toreros in the game until the offense could get untracked in the second half. Dayton jumped out to a 13-0 lead on the strength of two William Will
field goals (37, 43) and a blocked punt that Jack Crain recovered in the end zone early in the second quarter. The Toreros finally found their footing
and responded with back-to-back touchdown passes to knot the score at 13-all heading into the intermission break. Quarterback Keith Williams
connected with Brandon White for 17 yards with 2:41 left that culminated a 9-play, 80 yard drive, and followed with a 7-yard TD strike to Reggie
Bell with 33 ticks left. In the third period on Dayton’s second drive, Troy McClelland forced UD back Connor Kacsor to fumble and Una Hamala
recovered at the Dayton 28. After two Williams completions of 11 yards (D’Angelo Barksdale) and 16 yards (Ross Dwelley), Dallas Kessman
blasted in from 1-yard out for his first score of the game. USD’s 20-13 lead was short-lived as Dayton answered with a 41-yard TD pass from WR Ross
Smith to WR Colin McManamon (9:52) and a Connor Kacsor 3-yard run (3:46). Kacsor’s run followed USD’s second blocked punt. It was all USD however in the final quarter as the Toreros outscored the Flyers 20-3 for the final 40-29 outcome. Kessman capped off an 8-play, 66-yard drive with a
7-yard TD rush at the 14:56 mark. Following William Will’s third field goal, the Toreros closed with a Chris Campano 1-yard run (2:31) and a Williams
13-yard TD run around the left end with 1:01 to go. With USD holding a 33-29 lead late in the game and Dayton marching downfield, USD team
captain Troy McClelland intercepted Will Bardo’s pass on the UD 41-yard line and he returned it to the Dayton 14. Three plays later Williams iced
the victory with his 13-yard run. For the game USD was paced by Kessman’s 102 yards rushing and 2 TDs on 19 carries. Keith Williams completed
12-21 for 163 yards and 2 TDs. Brandon White hauled in 4 balls for 73 yards and a score. In USD total team defensive effort, Matt Miller led the
way with 9 tackles, followed by Una Hamala (7 tackles, 1 interception, 1 fumble recovery), Jamal Agnew (6 tackles, 2 breakups) , Troy McClelland
(6 tackles, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble) and Joe LaBarbera (5 tackles, 1 tackle for loss). Dayton was paced by Kacsor (115 yards rushing, 1 TD),
QB Will Bardo (24-41 for 217 yards), kicker William Will (3-4 in FGs) and LB Chris Beaschler (12 tackles).
(GAME #8 - NOVEMBER 1ST) TOREROS ESCAPE WITH 17-14 ROAD WIN OVER DRAKE: Sophomore quarterback Keith Williams' 7-yard touchdown pass to Chris Campano with 1:21 remaining, completed USD's second consecutive come-from-behind victory, with a 17-14 win over Drake
University Saturday afternoon in a Pioneer Football League game. With the win, the Toreros improve to 7-1 overall, and coupled with a Jacksonville loss, USD moves into a two-way tie for first place in the PFL standings at 5-1. USD also managed to snap Drake's 19 home game PFL winning
streak with this win. Drake falls to 5-4 overall and they fall to 4-2 in the PFL with the loss. Williams finished his day with 202 yards in the air, while
completing 16 of 27 passes, and he had two touchdown throws. Jonah Hodges also had another solid game on the ground, gaining 89 yards on
16 carries, while Brandon White finished his day with five receptions for 83 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Nic Henson, Joe LaBarbera
and Troy McClelland all had seven tackles. The Toreros found themselves in a 14-0 hole early on to the Bulldogs, but this didn't faze this feisty
Torero squad, who has now reeled off six consecutive wins. After USD forced the Bulldogs to punt with 7:02 left in the second quarter, Williams
went to work. On third down, Williams went to the air and was able to complete a 35-yard touchdown pass to Brandon White. After a David Last
successful PAT, the Toreros had cut the deficit in half, heading into the halftime break. Then late in the third quarter, USD moved themselves into
field goal range. David Last simply went out there and kicked the longest field goal of his career, a 50-yarder, with 3:02 to go in the quarter to cut
the lead down to four at 14-10. It marked the fourth longest field goal in Torero history. Late in the fourth quarter, Williams and the Torero offense
took over possession at the San Diego 13-yard line with just over 7 minutes to go. Williams methodically drove the Toreros down the field on 13
plays and it resulted in a 7-yard TD strike with 1:21 to go to Campano, giving USD the 17-14 victory. On the winning drive Williams completed all
nine of his passing attempts for 94 yards, with four moving the chains for first downs. San Diego's defense then did the rest, forcing the Bulldogs
to turn the ball over on downs, and USD then ran out the clock to pick up their seventh win of the season.
