Let Go of the Need to be “Right” and choose
to see the best in others and experience the
power positive intent has to turn the most
challenging child around. The overriding
principle from which Conscious Discipline is
founded is, “What you offer to others, you strengthen in
yourself.” Positive intent has the power to turn children
around, changing aggressive children into cooperative members
of your classroom and helping bullies learn other ways of
feeling in control and safe. This skill will encourage children
and send you home feeling better about yourself. Join Jenny
Spencer, Conscious Discipline Certified Instructor, for this
interactive hands-on workshop based on the work of Dr.
Becky Bailey.

Preparing Children for Kindergarten: ISTAR-KR
ISTAR-KR is an online early childhood assessment instrument derived from the
Foundations to the Indiana Academic Standards, is free, and is easy to use. Join us to
learn how ISTAR KR guides teacher lesson planning, provides reports to demonstrate
skills a child has mastered and what skills are to be learned next. We will go on a virtual
tour of the ISTAR KR online application, outline what teachers need to accurately
complete child assessments, and review how to open an ISTAR account. Dana Jones,
Early Learning Specialist, Indiana Department of Education.
Typical Development of School-Agers
We talk constantly about the ages & stages of infants and toddlers – now, let’s talk about
school age children!! How do young people change as they grow? This class will give
insight into the needs and interests of school age children. The class discusses the
characteristics that are common to children at each age level. We will talk specifically
about elementary school children from ages 6 to 11 years analyzing growth physically,
mentally, socially, and emotionally. We will also look at planning specific activities for this
age group and techniques for keeping this age group engaged. Nancy Hudson, MS
Purdue Extension/Clark County Extension Educator for Health & Human Sciences.
Challenging Interactions with Staff: From Negativity to Optimism
Whatever you call employees you find difficult to supervise, you still need to develop
effective ways to work with them. This workshop will help you do that by providing you
with insight into what makes employees difficult and helping you develop strategies for
coping with them while keeping yourself sane! Anita Allison, Head Start/Child Care
Liaison Project Manager, IACCRR.
More Alike than Different
Children are always much more ALIKE then they’ll ever be different! All children have
unique and wonderful traits that are more significant than the labels or details regarding
their specific disability. This training will help participants to increase their knowledge of
best practices to include all children in child care including Person First Language and the
American with Disabilities Act. Heidi Stewart, SIEOC CCR&R Inclusion Specialist.
Observation and Documentation of Infants and Toddlers
Strategies and examples for observing and documenting the infants and toddlers in early
childhood settings will be shared. The material will come from real life examples. This
session will build upon the morning workshop, A Day in the Life of Infants and
Toddlers. The two trainings may be taken individually or as a pair. Miranda Todd,
Adjunct Faculty in Early Elementary Education, Ivy Tech Sellersburg.

Expectations of School Age Children
As every year passes, we expect more and more from our growing children in our care.
Are the expectations that we hold realistic? Or do we set such high expectations that our
school age children may never meet them? We will discuss the developing school child,
behavior expectations, strategies to support those children, and parent expectations.
Nancy Hudson, MS HHS Extension Educator Purdue Extension – Clark County.
Giving Our Best: You and the Profession of Early Childhood Education
Defined by doing our best for the children in our care, professionalism in early childhood
should guide our work at all times. This workshop will explore the importance of
remembering the theorists and experts who inform our practice; the need to engage in
professional behavior; and the personal qualities that characterize effective early
childhood educators. We will also examine how to support professionalism by
embedding it throughout program policies and practices. Anita Allison, Head Start/Child
Care Liaison Project Manager, IACCRR.
A Day in the Life of Infants and Toddlers

Don’t Worry Be Happy!!! Sensory Fun For All Ages!
Let go of the worry and let your kids touch, smell, feel, hear and taste DAILY! This
presentation will provide you with many ideas on how to incorporate sensory
opportunities every day in your program. It will excite you as it has me, on how easy it is
to create an environment that your kids will love to explore and create in. Be ready to get
messy and have a ball. Dawn Justice, Owner/Director of A New Dawn Daycare, Inc.
