Workshop 2
Authenticity and Professionalism One of the aims of the RIE® philosophy is for children to be authentic. Authentic children need to be with authentic adults. This workshop will share the findings of some recent research into early childhood teacher professionalism and authenticity -‐ can early childhood teachers be both professional and authentic? We will also explore some ways in which we can bring our authentic selves to our work with children and families. Workshop 3
Time to Play!! Supporting Social Competence Recognising and Responding to toddlers as they test boundaries and push limits. What is our role as teachers in supporting our toddlers as they work through struggle and conflicts? Ania and Anita will be sharing ideas and resources to help you create an environment of wonder and curiosity, inspiring infants and toddlers to explore, discover and make sense of the world around them. Come prepared to share your treasures, as well as pick up ideas to add. About Anita
About Nardine Nardine has been working with young children for the past 12 years. She began her career working with 3-‐5 year olds but in 2007 was introduced to the work of Emmi Pikler and Magda Gerber. Since then her passion for working with infants and toddlers has seen her travel to Seattle to complete her RIE Foundations in 2011 and then returning to LA in 2012 to attend the RIE Annual Conference and tour parent/ infant classes and centres in the LA area. Nardine owns and runs two Childcare Centres “Little Ones Early Learning Centre” and “Richmond Early Learning Centre” in Southland. Nardine also runs Professional Development for teachers and parents where she shares her passion and enthusiasm for discovering what our role is in supporting young children in their journey as capable and competent people. Nardine continues to be amazed daily by the things that she is taught by the children she works with!! About Justine Justine has a background in early childhood teaching and early intervention with particular interests in working with a pedagogy of respect with both adults and children. Most recently she has been involved in early childhood teacher education, facilitating adult learning for Playcentre and parenting her own four children. Anita has been working with children for nearly twenty years, the majority of which has been with infants and toddlers. Continually inspired by the work of Magda Gerber, Anita has espoused her principles of respect in her work, creating environments for infants and toddlers. Anita completed RIE Foundations: Theory and Observation in 2010, and is sharing her knowledge & experience with centres and teachers as a professional development facilitator. About Ania
Ania is a passionate teacher working with infants and toddlers at The Learning Centre in Ponsonby. She began her journey in 2004 in a parent infant class with her 7 month old son facilitated by Maureen Perry. Since then she has completed a graduate diploma in early childhood teaching, the RIE foundations course, and attended a summer course at the Pikler institute in Hungary."
