 From Father John’s Desk...
Fall DinnerGratitude
Thank you to all who came to
work, shop, and eat last
weekend at our Fall Dinner. We
served over 1,800 dinners and
had good crowds upstairs
shopping as well! The Lord
certainly blessed us with good
weather.
Our next dinner is April 26. Let
us begin to pray and work now
to make this dinner such a
blessed success as this Fall
Dinner was.
FeastofAllSaints
One popular question kids ask
to try to stump me is how many
saints. The real answer
frustrates them: we do not
know.
Our not knowing comes
partially out of the different
ways saints have been named
over the centuries and
preservation of records. Lists
do vary, but there are at least a
couple of thousand saints the
Catholic Church has canonized.
These holy men and women
have been given to us by God as
examples of holiness to help us
on the way to heaven. Others
have also been named as
patron saints for different
professions, activities, or over
other parts of human life. May
we not forget to ask the help of
these holy men and women in
our life.
with the Lord and saints in
heaven. How can our prayers
now help our family
members, friends, or people
who we do not even know,
reach heaven?
Think of a straight line,
stretching from the time of
creation to the inal judgment.
We only live during one small
segment of it, and thus have a
limited perspective of the line.
But God, is over and above the
line. He sees all creation in a
moment. With such
perspective, God knows in
advance that we are going to
pray for someone who may be
in need of prayer to receive
His mercy at the moment of
death, or who are in
purgatory and need prayer to
be puri ied of their sins.
With the perspective God has,
no one is ever beyond mercy
or needing our prayers.
Instead, praying for souls is a
fruitful privilege that allows
us to continue to feel close to
those who have died. Whether
it is a person we feel certainly
is in heaven, or a person who
we thought we would never
pray for due to the hurt they
caused in our life, or a person
we do not know, let us pray
for the dead, knowing that it
is ours to do and for God to do
what He needs to do with our
prayers.
FeastofAllSouls
This Sunday, we remember all
of the faithfully departed and
pray that they may be joined

“Those who trust in him will
understand truth, and the faithful will
abide with him in love, because grace
and mercy are upon his elect, and he watches over
his holy ones.” Wisdom of Solomon 3:9
Here’s the ironic thing about people who are
generous. Those that give freely and cheerfully do
not do it to be rewarded. They do it to show their
love for God and their neighbors. Yet, because of
their generosity, they typically are given more
than they gave away!
PRAYERFOROURMILITARY
Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us. Bless
them and their families for the sel less acts
they perform for us in our time of need.
We ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord
and Savior. Amen.
