Prayer for the Holy Souls in Purgatory by Bl. James Alberione
Blessed Souls, you are suffering and asking suffrage from me; I am in great danger and
need, and I await aid and protection from you. So for the month of November, I will offer all
my prayers and especially all my good works for you. And you in turn remember my
needs; deliver me from the dangers I face, and in particular, obtain for me this grace (mention petition). And let the first of you to enter Heaven not cease to plead for me before the
Divine Mercy until I, too, arrive there. May the Sacred Heart bless this agreement. Amen.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Each week a number of people contribute, in some capacity, to the parish bulletin.
Unfortunately, last week an item pertaining to the narthex and sign-up tables was mistakenly
included in the pastor’s column. These were not my words nor my sentiments. However, some
have discussed the sense of being overwhelmed when walking through the narthex. Some
ideas have been suggested but no new policy has been decided upon. Sorry for the confusion.
Let us pray for a good solution.
The month of November is dedicated by the Church for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. I have
included in this bulletin a powerful prayer by Bl. James Alberione to be prayed every day during this month. It is powerful. Write down several intentions and watch how the Holy Souls intercede in gratitude for our prayers and sacrifices. St. Thomas Aquinas said, “Of all prayers, the most meritorious, the most acceptable to God are prayers for the
dead, because they imply all the works of charity, both corporal and spiritual.”
Let us pray that the candidates in the upcoming elections who are most pleasing to our Lord Jesus Christ are elected
to office. St. Pope John Paul II clearly reminded us that the defense of life must be a priority. It is the foundational
issue for the common good of society. "Disregard for the right to life, precisely because it leads to the killing of the
person whom society exists to serve, is what most directly conflicts with the possibility of achieving the common
good... It is impossible to further the common good without acknowledging and defending the right to life, upon
which all the other inalienable rights of individuals are founded and from which they develop..." (The Gospel of Life,
72; 101)
God bless you,
Fr. Parker
Fr. James Parker, Pastor of Holy Cross Church, invites you to participate in our
The ‘One Thing’ Is Three study by Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC
The ‘One Thing’ Is Three, written by Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, is a study of Catholic theology written for anyone who
wants to grow in their knowledge and understanding of the great mysteries of the faith. This study is designed so anyone
can dive deeper in their faith and understanding, even those of you who are very busy. The ‘One Thing’ Is Three is written
in two parts. First, a crash course in Catholic theology, and second, a study of the opportunities to share and live the works
of mercy. Insights, not only from St. Ignatius Loyola, but also St. Louis de Montfort, St. Therese of Lisieux, St. Maria
Faustina, St. Thomas Aquinas, and St. John Paul II. In the words of Peter Kreeft, Ph.D. this study is, “…dangerous. It
brims with wisdom and wonder, and with enthusiastic and infectious joy.” Bishop David Ricken, Diocese of Green Bay, WI,
says, “I highly recommend this book (study) for anyone who loves the Church and seeks a deeper understanding of her
teachings.”
You can read the book on your own in as little as a week, or you can take advantage of the opportunity to share the journey
with a group over the course of ten weeks. See the registration forms in the narthex or on the parish website for more information and to sign up. We will be taking registration forms through December 1st for this third Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC,
study. Don't Miss Out!

Spiritual Adoption Month 3 - I am quite active. Even
though my mother cannot feel me yet, I can kick and flip
around in my safe little world. I can move my eyes but
my eyelids are closed. My cartilage is changing to bone.
I can suck my thumb and I hiccup when I swallow amniotic fluid. I am now three inches long and can hear outside noises. I can close my fingers around an object and
I can squint, frown and smile. I am starting to react to
my environment and although I can already feel sensations like pain, I really hope things stay the same--quiet,
peaceful, and warm.

St. Michael Ministry of Compassionate Care
A thought to ponder ~ Eternal Father, I offer You the most precious blood of
your Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world
today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners
in the universal church, for those in my own home and in my family. Amen.
~ St. Gertrude the Great
Today we celebrate All Souls' Day which is the Commemoration of All the
Faithful Departed. Each of us have members of our family or friends who
have touched our lives and have shown us God's love, but He has called
them to their eternal reward. We miss them deeply as we offer them back
to God in thanksgiving for His gift of them in our lives. Because God has blessed our
lives with these special people, our Church honors these loved ones today,
November 2nd, the Feast of All Souls.
Our first stop will be Sts. Volodymyr
and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Church
located at 2245 W. Superior St., one of
the landmarks of the Ukrainian Village
area of Chicago.
Next, we’ll move on to St. Hyacinth
Basilica located at 3636 W. Wolfram
St., which is a prime example of the
"Polish Cathedral style" of church in
its opulence and grand scale.
LUNCH BREAK ‐ RESTAURANT TBD
The St. Michael Ministry of Compassionate Care invites all parishioners to join us
in prayer this evening, November 2nd, at the Annual All Souls' Memorial Candle
Lighting Service which will be held at 7:00 PM in the Church.
We remember and pray for the repose of the souls of all of our deceased parishioners, family members, friends, all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, and most especially those loved ones who have died between November 2013 and October
2014. Please join us for the All Souls' Memorial Candle Lighting Service tonight! All
are welcome at this meaningful and inspirational service!
It is important for us to pray for our beloved departed.
Let us pray:
Then, we will move on to St. Mary of the
Angels Church located at 1850 N. Hermitage
Ave., administered by priests of Opus Dei.
The last stop will be St. John Can"us
Church located at 825 N. Carpenter
St. It is known for its solemn liturgies
and rich programs of sacred art and
music.
Bus space is limited. To register please make your check payable to Holy Cross & drop it off at the parish office.
No phone reservations will be accepted.
God of Love and Compassion,
You look with tenderness on Your beloved sons and daughters
Who have been saved by the death and resurrection of Jesus.
We ask You to show that same embracing compassion and tender mercy
To all whom You have called from this life.
May they enjoy the fullness of the risen life with Jesus...
And all the saints, bathed in Your glory, light, and tender mercy. Amen.
May all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.

Our Mission Statement

The mission of the Enriching Lives Ministry is twofold. First, to
www.holycross-batavia.org/outreach/elm
spiritually and emotionally enrich the lives of the elderly, homebound,
disabled, sick, and any other people needing companionship, love and/or other assistance through Jesus’ boundless love for all people by providing friendship, caring assistance, enjoyable times, spiritual and social fellowship, transportation to church and personal functions, other assistance … and love to these people on a long-term basis. Second, to connect those who want to help people with those who need assistance.
A Big Thank You To Our Parish Children & Their Leaders
A big thank you goes out to Susan Mertka and the American Heritage Girls, and also to Doris Trout and the Holy Cross Middle School students
for reaching out to others. These very giving groups reached out to our ministry, and are sending cards/letters once a month to the elderly and
homebound in our community. What an excellent lesson to teach these young people! Thank you for your efforts and all the other people and
children who make lonely seniors’ lives a bit happier..
Kay DiVerde (Leader of Card Sending in our ministry)
We Are Short Entertainers To Brighten Up Lonely Senior’s Lives...We’re starting up entertaining … SLOWLY because we don’t have enough entertainers. Many people are not aware of the lonely life most seniors at senior residences live. Many get very few or no visits from family members
or others. A major goal of this ministry is to help this situation by visiting, sending cards, providing transportation and entertaining God’s seniors
and, with our actions, hopefully bring these people closer to God. We’re asking you to help with entertaining these people. If you or your children can sing, dance, play an instrument, tell jokes or whatever … WE NEED YOU. You don’t need to be excellent or even very good at what you
do. They just love seeing people, especially children, and joining in the fun. When you see their smiling faces you’ll know you are doing God’s
work. Please contact the ministry (see below) if you are interested or simply have questions. Monica Negrete is doing a fantastic job restarting
this part of our ministry … but she really needs your help.
