A cancer diagnosis can be an overwhelming event
that touches more than just the physical well-being
of a person. The CTRC Patient and Family Services
Department strives to support and assist patients and
families through every aspect of this cancer journey.
THE Answer for Cancer
The CTRC Patient and Family Services Department,
through its Wellness Center, provides many nonmedical services to support patients. Some of the
services provided include:

• Expressive arts
• Relaxation and stress management
• Nutrition
• Spiritual support
• Health and beauty
• Support groups

New and Special Events
Colorectal Education Group
Location: 1st Floor Grossman Library
Colorectal cancer patients and their caregivers are invited
to this new education group. Medical oncologist and colon
cancer specialist, Dr. Laura Tenner, will discuss colorectal
cancer and ways to cope with the disease. The group meets
on the 3rd Monday of each month. Refreshments provided.
Holiday Bazaar
Location: 1st Floor (Grossman, Zeller & Urschel Hallway)
Unique gifts and treasures available at this annual craft fair.
Proceeds benefit the CTRC Patient Assistance Fund. Please
contact 210-450-5574 if you are interested in renting a table
to sell your crafts.
Rx for Better Breast Health
Breast cancer survivors are invited to join a research study
to help them eat healthier. Participants will learn how
eating certain cancer-fighting foods may reduce their risk of
recurrence. Women ages 18-75 who have completed breast
cancer treatment at least 3 months ago are eligible to join the

Health & Beauty
Look Good, Feel Better
Location: 1st Floor Grossman Library
This class is designed to provide information and techniques
to females undergoing cancer treatment to help them look
and feel more comfortable with changes in their appearance.

Exercise & Movement
Qi Gong/Tai Chi
Location: HEB Surgical Center, 1st floor Zeller Building
Qi Gong/Tai Chi are mind-body exercises that use
movement, meditation and breathing to improve health and
well-being.
Gentle Yoga
Location: HEB Surgical Center, 1st Floor Zeller Building
Yoga has been shown to increase physical fitness while
reducing stress and anxiety. This weekly gentle yoga
class focuses on flexibility, balance and proper breathing
techniques. Wear comfortable clothing. Mats available but
bring your own if you prefer.
Expressive Arts
Bottles of Hope
Location: 1st floor Grossman Building Patient Library
A Bottle of Hope is a unique work of art created out of
polymer clay that symbolizes a wish for health. Bring your
wish – other supplies are provided.

Let’s Knit!
Location: 1st Floor Grossman Library
Did you ever want to learn how to knit? Well here is
your chance. Yarn experts and master knitters, Melissa
Nashawati and Melissa Kyzar, will be teaching knitting 101.
Instructions, yarn and knitting needles provided free of
charge to first time attendees.
Relaxation & Stress Management
any woman with breast cancer with guest speakers, group

Chair Massage
Location: 1st floor Grossman Building Patient Library
A registered massage therapist provides 15-minute chair
massages for patients (with doctor’s permission) or
caregivers free of charge. Massages are $10 for others. Call
450-5570 to make an appointment
Reiki
Location: 3rd floor Urschel/Zeller Treatment rooms
Reiki treatments are provided to patients and caregivers in
the chemotherapy treatment rooms. If you are not a patient
scheduled to be in the treatment room, call 210-450-5570
to arrange a reiki treatment in another location.
Education
S.N.A.C.K.S. Lecture: What Does My Medicine Cost?
Location: 4th Floor Mabee Conference Room
Brand name, generic, over-the-counter, insurance and
co-pays - with all these things to consider it is oftentimes
to budget. CTRC Pharmacy personnel will help you sort out
the answers to your questions in this informative lecture
about medication costs. Lunch provided for the first 15
attendees.
S.N.A.C.K.S. Lecture: Santa’s Workshop
Location: 4th Floor Mabee Conference Room
Santa’s workshop is humming with home-made gift ideas.
Join us as we create hand-made gifts for those hard to
buy for people on your gift list. Instructions and supplies
provided. Lunch provided for the first 20 attendees.
