Friday was also “sticker shock day” – students shared a drug and bullying prevention sticker with an adult in the community. The Leadership Class also developed lessons to prevent bullying at each of the
grade levels and developed door banners to set the tone for the week.
The WCS PTO provided red ribbons and pencils for students and the
Nebraska Elks provided coloring books, rulers and stickers. The Elks
also provided Casey’s gift cards for a student drawing. Friday all students and staff joined on the football field to take a “team picture”
representing “Washington County Schools: Teaming up to be…Drug
and Bully Free!”
Thank you to Mrs. Zabokrtsky, the Team Leadership Class, the Nutrition and Wellness Class, NHS, PTO and the Nebraska Elks for making
this important week possible. Thank you to Mrs. Toole for taking the

FCCLA Hosts Powder Puff Game to Benefit WS Co Food Pantry
The second annual Powder Puff game was held on Thursday, Oct. 23 at the Washington County
Football Complex. Seniors and freshman squared up against the sophomores and juniors in the
competitive, yet lighthearted game. The senior-freshman team scored early in the first quarter
and at half the score was 12-6 in favor of the senior-freshman squad coached by Andrew Tiemeyer. The junior-sophomore team, coached by Taybor Miller and Ryley Meyer, came back to score
a touchdown early in the second half. Then the battle was on with each team scoring again.
Both teams were content to end the game in a tie with each team scoring 18 points.
Players, coaches and referees included Jordanna Beikman, Erin Holtmeier, Courtney Graff, Mandi
Allerheiligen, Courtney Bekemeyer, Brenna Linenberger, Rachael Wood, Katy Rundle, Jessica Bryant, Makinna Bentz, Chey Helms, Brooke Tuma, Madison Stone, Jenna Habegger, Taybor Miller,
Andrew Tiemeyer, Ryan Stewart, Ryley Meyer, Jae Eaton, Jerrod Hoover, and Kyle Edgar.
Admission to the game was a donation to the Washington County
Food Pantry. The event raised
$30.00 and approximately 25
pounds of canned goods.
The Washington County Drama Dept. will be presenting 13 Reasons Not To Be in a Play and I Hate Shakespeare at 7:00 pm, Friday, November 14th and at 2:00 pm, Sunday, November 16th in the
High School Auditorium. Adults $5.00 and Students $4.00.
Washington After Prom has another successful fundraiser!
The Washington After Prom Fundraising Committee netted $460 on their most recent fundraiser
October 10th. Auctioneer Mark Uhlik and his two assistants, Ed Durst and Larry Lovgren, auctioned a team autographed volleyball that sold for $100 to the high bidder of Dr. Phil Bentz, Animal Health Center; an autographed football which brought $300 from the high bidder of Mark
and Kim Cudney and an autographed cross country t-shirt that brought $60 from the high bidder
of Tony and Kelly McGatlin.
Thanks to those who donated their time and participated in the auction.
The next After Prom Meeting will be at 5:30 p.m.
February 18th at the Washington High School Library.

FCCLA to Host a “Glowing” 5K
Washington County FCCLA is hosting a glowing 5K on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 8:00
p.m. Registration will be at Washington County High School at 7:00 p.m. The fee will be $30 for
each participant. (This includes glowing t-shirt, refreshments, and net proceeds will go to the
International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society.

Second Grade News—Mrs. Koss
THANKSGIVING will be here before we know it, and I’d like to offer up thanks for education.
Educationally in our classroom, we are involved in the following:
I’d like to offer thanks for kindness; it’s our current theme in Reading.
I’m thankful for natural resources like air, water, soil, and forests that provide us with what we
need to help keep us alive; it’s our current topic in Social Studies.
I’m so thankful to live in a rural area where we produce crops; that’s our next area of study in
Science.
I’d like to offer thanks for numbers; we use them in so many ways and are working to do more
and more with them each and every day.
I’m so thankful for students who are working hard in Reading, improving their Reading skills with
the Lexia program and the Accelerated Reading program.
In addition, I’m thankful for parents who care enough to spend the time needed to help their
child’s education experience to be a happy and successful one. Thank you so very much!!!
May your Thanksgiving be filled with much to be thankful for!

Washington County's Cross Country and Volleyball Teams are going to STATE!
Saturday, October 25th our Cross Country Boys won first at Regionals and our Girls Team Won
3rd!!
Also on Saturday our Volleyball Team Won at Sub-State!!

KSDS Visit
One day KSDS came to visit our classroom. There
were three dogs. One was named Angel, another named
Cabrane. We could not pet them when they had on a harness.
The gave us a cool packet with games in it. We al got to pet
the dogs before they left. It was really fun. One of the KSDS
people that came was Malorie’s Grandma!

Ag Day
We rode the bus to the fair
grounds. A guy showed us a
forge and an anvil he used for
making horse shoes. We learned
about soil. Did you know that soil
with no roots in it will fall apart
more easily than soil with roots?
We learned about milking cows
and Aidan got to help. We had a
snack. There were lts of students
there. It was also cold and rainy!

Mustache Day
The Food Lady
Our food lady is Sonia Cooper with the Family Nutrition Program & River Valley Extension District.
She visited us once a wee for 4 weeks and taught us about food,
nutrition and how to read food labels so we can make healthy

Guacamole Party!
We made guacamole in our classroom. We ate some
and it tasted good to some people and not so good to
others. This was an activity we get do through the
PEP Grant.

Shelby the Social Dog
Sometimes Shelby comes to Mrs. Rundle’s 4th grade classroom and listens
to us read. We pet her and Mrs. Rundle gives her a small treat. She is fluffy
and soft. She belongs to Mrs. Gano.

Rainy Homecoming
It’s raining and we were marching downtown while the band
played. We sang our team song and shouted our cheers. We
had fun watching the cheerleaders and dance team. We did a
yelling contest with our school initials WCHS. The K-3
grades and the football players won!
