Sunday School
Sunday School is offered for all ages between our 9:00
am and 11:00 am worship services from 10:10 am to
10:55 am. The classes are designed to be age appropriate so that we all can deepen our faith in Jesus Christ.
Holy Eucharist/Communion
Holy Eucharist, also known as Communion, is open
to all of the baptized of all denominations. The
Episcopal Church has an open table and you are
invited to participate as you feel comfortable. The
ushers will direct you forward to receive the sacrament. To receive the Eucharist, place your right
palm over your left and you will be given the Bread;
the Wine will be offered and you may guide the chalice
to your lips. If you prefer not to drink from it, leave the
wafer on your palm and the chalice bearer will dip it
in the cup and place it in your mouth. If you wish to
receive a Blessing in lieu of the Elements, simply cross
your arms over your chest.
Children and Nursery Care
We love children and we invite them to worship with
us. We also offer a professionally staffed nursery for all
children up through 7 years old from 8:45am to 12:30pm.
The nursery is located in the Education Building past the
reception desk.
Cell Phones
Please, turn your cell phones off so that they do not
disturb you or those around you during worship.
Gluten Free communion wafers are available at the Lectern Communion Station.
Gluten Free emblems are available in the
Narthex so that you can identify yourself
to the person administering communion at
that station. These wafers are made from
rice and soy.

Baptism by the early church was predominantly by
submersion. However, the Didache (100-150 AD)
states that if sufficient water is unavailable, then the
baptismal water can be poured (affusion). Baptism of
the sick by affusion was considered valid. Some early
baptistries were large enough for submersion, but others were so shallow that baptismal candidates must
have stood in them and had water poured over their
heads. Both submersion and affusion are depicted in
ancient artwork. Submersion is substantiated by the
NT phrases, “in the Jordan” or “went down into the
water”. Submersion also fits the metaphor that baptism
is being “buried with Christ”. The Catholic Catechism
states that triple immersion is the “most expressive
mode of baptism”, but “from ancient times baptism can
also be conferred by pouring the water three times over
the candidate’s head”. Orthodox churches have always
baptized infants by immersion. Martin Luther favored
immersion as symbolizing the “drowning of sins”, but
he did not insist on this practice. The 1549 BCP called
for threefold immersion, but this was not required in
the 1552 edition. Our BCP states that the officiant at
baptism shall immerse or pour water while saying the

Based on the picture of a “cloud of witnesses“ (Hebrews 12:1), the hymn gives thanks for the saints of
old, makes a prayer that we may be found faithful,
and acknowledges the unity of the whole Church in
heaven and on earth in the Mystical Body of Christ.
Vaughan Williams’ magnificent marching tune makes
this a contemporary version of “When the saints go
marching in.”

Saint Paul’s provides space for a weekly meeting of
Alcoholics Anonymous on Tuesdays at 12:10 pm.
These meetings are open to any member of the community, alcoholic or nonalcoholic, who is interested in
AA’s 12 step program of recovery. The only obligation is that of not disclosing the names of AA members
outside the meeting. These meetings will be held in the

Paul’s library in the Parlor where we have a large variety of “good reads” by well known authors. Also
find books in all categories: spiritual, self-help, travel,
hobbies, etc. Thank you to all who have donated books
as well as thanks to all who take books to borrow and
return or pass on to others OR simply keep. Since we
want all books to have a chance to be read, books will
remain on the shelves for about 6 months, and then be
donated to the YWCA Women’s Shelter or the Jesus
House to make room for other books now in storage.

Book Study – Zealot: the Life and Times of
Jesus of Nazareth
Who was Jesus? Society debates whether or not Jesus
was a prophet, a teacher or God incarnate. Zealot: the
Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth is a look into the
historical account of Jesus and his works. We will explore interesting but controversial account of the life of
Jesus over four weeks to better understand his words
