2012 Accessibility Update
This half-day session is designed for persons certified as an Accessibility
Inspector/Plans Examiner, but may also be of interest to design professionals
and Building Code Officials. The program will provide participants with
details on the key changes to Chapter 11 and Appendix E of the 2012
International Building Code (IBC), as compared to 2009 requirements, as
well as changes between the 2003 and 2009 ANSI/ICC A117.1 standard.
The updated code requirements explored in this program have become
enforceable in Pennsylvania as of January 1, 2013.

BCO 108: Applying the International Fire Code under the UCC – the
Correct Way!
This half-day course tackles the challenge of accurately interpreting the
sections of the International Fire Code that are applicable under the PA
UCC. Only specific sections of the Fire Code that are referenced by the
International Building Code are enforceable by UCC certified plans
examiners and building inspectors. Other sections are enforceable after
following the UCC amendment process, other sections are enforceable by
adopting a municipal ordinance and other sections are off limits entirely.
This course will distinguish between them. Topics include:





UCC enforceable sections
Sections amendable using UCC regulated procedures and how to do so
Sections enforceable by municipal ordinance and how to do so
Unenforceable sections
Personnel that may enforce the code

Uniform Construction Code BCO Refresher
It is hard to believe that Pennsylvania has been administering the complex
Uniform construction Code for over 10 years. As an added challenge to those
working with the UCC, the Act has been amended multiple times, each time
creating new provisions or changing existing code provisions, all of which
needs to be learned by those working with the act. This course is designed
for seasoned code officials, those newer to the profession or anyone else that
are looking for a thorough refresher or review of sections of the Act that have
been impacted by UCC amendments and also UCC provisions that are
exceptionally challenging. Class participation is encouraged!!

Residential Fire Sprinklers for Townhouses and One/Two Family
Dwellings
Pennsylvania Act 1 of 2011 excluded one-and-two family dwellings from the
fire sprinkler requirements of the International Residential Code (IRC), but
sprinkler requirements remain in effect for townhouses. Townhouses built
under the scope of the IRC (three stories or less above grade and separate
means of egress) are required to have fire sprinklers installed in compliance
with IRC Chapter 29 or NFPA 13D. One-and-two family dwellings that have
sprinkler systems voluntarily installed are also required to comply with the
same code provisions. This one-day session provides an overview of
sprinkler system types, design options and proper installation.
