MISSION STATEMENT OF ST. EULALIA’S PARISH
The Parish Community of St. Eulalia makes present the Lord Jesus Christ in the celebration of the
Eucharist, the meeting of parishioners for various prayer opportunities, and outreach to the marginalized. We
share in the works of the local Ministerium through common prayers.
We are resolved to grow the faith of the Church with our children through religious education and with
all others through the RCIA. We challenge ourselves to develop service projects for youth and young adults,
and to become more welcoming to all.
With continued growth in our area, Evangelization occurs through various outlets including pastoral
outreach, sacramental preparation, and the promotion of an intimate respect for all life.

THE DEDICATION OF THE LATERAN BASILICA
THE TEMPLE AND WORSHIP
In all of today’s readings, the temple is prominently
mentioned. Ezekiel speaks of streams of living water
flowing out from the temple, watering the desert, bringing
life to all living things, offering fresh healing to God’s
people.
Paul reminds the Corinthians that their faith rests upon
the firmest of foundations, Christ himself. More than that,
Paul reveals that those who follow Christ are themselves
temples, temples of the Holy Spirit; that is, God dwells
not only with them, but in them.
For the Jews of Jesus’ time, the temple had come to be
identified with the presence of God and the only place
where authentic worship of God took place. Jesus had a
different perception. Jesus identified himself not with the
temple, but as the temple. In so doing, Jesus indicated a
dramatic shift in what it means to worship God, to be in
God’s presence. No longer was a place to be the focus of
prayer. Instead, a person, the person of Jesus Christ, becomes the center of our worship.

The Dedication
of the Lateran Basilica
The LORD of hosts is with us;
our stronghold is the God of Jacob.
— Psalm 46:8
November 9, 2014; The Dedication of the Lateran Basilica
Page Three
Dear Msgr. Jordan,
Dear Friends:
After prayerful consideration, I would like to make a donation
to the 3rd Cornerstone Campaign in memory of my husband,
Timothy T. Cummings.
As you enter our Parish buildings this weekend you will notice
drawings of what is proposed for our facilities. As we look to
expand our campus to better serve our religious education and
CCD programs, you may notice the much needed classroom
space. Trying to squeeze almost 400 children into what was
comfortably planned to seat 100 children was looking for a
miracle from God.
His devotion to the Eucharist helped us all understand the
power and joy that only Holy Communion could give. Through
his short life, Tim showed us that what was really important
could be found right here at church. He was often heard telling
our children that his goal was simply “to get to heaven and to
take as many people as he could with him.” Such a simple,
earnest focus.
It is with this in mind that I would like to honor him by dedicating a classroom (2nd grade if possible since that’s the year they
receive First Holy Communion) in his memory. I have been
inspired by the reverent changes that have already been made to
our church, both inside and out. I hope our donation joins
many other donations so that the overall project can be seen to
completion.
God bless your good work,
The Cummings Family
STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
Ez 47: 1-2, 8-9, 12; Ps 46: 2-3, 5-6, 8-9;
1 Cor 3: 9C-11, 16-17; Jn 2: 13-22
I believe He is sending us the same message as Saint Francis
received hundreds of years ago “Go and rebuild my church.”
The task falls to us now. Each of the 10 classrooms is available for memorializing family loved ones through a gift of
$25,000. To date 3 have been named in honor of those family’s loved ones. Perhaps you may consider this gift payable
over 5 years; or one of the other opportunities.
This week we will be sending to your homes information on
how you can make your sacrificial gift to “rebuild God’s
house.” Remember the word sacrifice comes from 2 Latin
words: sacer facio, i.e., to make something holy.
So as we prepare to meet our ever growing needs, may I suggest a reflection on a verse from the reading at today’s
(Tuesday) Mass: “Let the coming generation be told of the
Lord that they may proclaim to a people yet to be born.” Our
mission in handing on the faith to this coming generation is
the work of this Capital Campaign. Let us pray and work together that God’s work truly become our own.
I look forward to receiving your pledge card or gift joining in
solidarity with all our brothers and sisters here at Saint Eulalia’s.
God bless you,
Father Jordan
As today is the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica
in Rome, each of the readings relates in some way to churches the buildings in which we worship. The Lateran Basilica is the
official Church of Rome and the Pope, not St. Peter with which
we tend to associate the Vatican.
The first reading from Ezekiel speaks of the temple and the
holy, living waters which flow from it. Ezekiel 47 reminds us
that what occurs inside the church building is incredibly
important, the Eucharist, called in the Catechism of the
Catholic Church, the “source and summit of our Christian life.”
Churches and holy waters are a principal part of our Catholic
faith. We enter the church through Baptism, and as we enter
our Catholic churches, we find holy water to remind us of that
Baptism and to prompt us to remember that we are in a holy
place, a place where we gather as a community, united as the
Body of Christ. We are the stewards of this church, this holy
place where we can disregard the burdens of the world and join
together to receive the life giving waters of the Word and the
Eucharist. Yes, we are the church, but there is more to it than
that. As Paul wrote to the Ephesians: “In him you are also
being built together into a dwelling place for God.”
SYNOD ON THE FAMILY
REFLECTION AND DISCUSSION
Earlier this month, Pope Francis wrapped up a two week
Vatican Synod on the pastoral challenges of the family in the
context of evangelization. The Synod on the Family captivated
our attention and calls us to a deeper, more reflective
conversation on the many pastoral issues confronting our
families today. In order to provide an opportunity for
reflection and discussion on this topic, Msgr. Jordan invites
you to participate in an evening session reflecting on the Final
report of the recent synod. Our second session will take place
this week on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in
the parish center. If you plan to attend, kindly call the parish
office @ 570-842-7656 and preparatory materials will be
mailed to you in advance of the session. Today’s “Bulletin
Insert” is a short reflection on The Synod’s proceedings. This
can help focus our discussion on Wednesday.

REMEMBERING OUR DECEASED
Each week in the Prayer of the Faithful we pray for
those of our parish, their relatives and friends who
have died during the previous week. We check the
newspapers, but it would help us avoid missing anyone if you would call the rectory and give us their
names.
REMEMBERING OUR PARISH
We are grateful to our parish families who have designated St. Eulalia’s Parish as a recipient of Memorial Donations for their deceased loved ones and to
those who remembered the Parish in their wills.
Please consider remembering St. Eulalia Parish
when preparing your will. Thank You.

DIOCESAN ANNUAL APPEAL
“TRANSFORMING LIVES TOGETHER”
Next Weekend is In-Pew Commitment Weekend for the Diocesan Annual Appeal. Diocesan Appeal materials and pledge
cards will be distributed to all parishioners during Masses celebrated next weekend. If you have not already done so, please
make your pledge to help the thousands of people who will
direc5tly benefit from your caring support.
Each day, with your gift to the Appeal you join in
“Transforming Lives Together” by enhancing the programs
offered in each of our 120 parishes; by educating our most precious resources: the approximately 6,000 students in our 20
Diocesan schools and those children in parish religious education programs; by responding to the poorest, the weakest and
those most in need through the good works of Catholic Social
Services; and by supporting our retired and aging priests as
well as our seminarians currently studying for the priesthood.
The latest progress report from the diocesan appeal office shows pledges/payments totaling $16,645.00 toward
St. Eulalia’s parish goal of $46,000.00, leaving a balance
of $29,355.00.

SOCIAL CONCERNS
~ EULALIA’S SLEIGH ~
Next weekend we will begin distribution of gift tags for
our Eulalia’s Sleigh project. Sponsored by our Social
Concerns Committee, we hope to make Christmas
brighter for three hundred nursing home residents and for
forty-one children of area needy families and children of
local prison inmates.
Gift tags for the nursing home residents will be in baskets in the rear of the church. These gift suggestions are
for small items and will benefit St. Mary’s Villa, Linwood Nursing, and Dunmore Health Care Center.
There will be two “Angel” tags on the tree for each of
the children, one for a toy gift and the other for a clothing
gift. These gifts are requested to be in the $30 range.
The items requested on the tags are given us by the parents and the prisoner’s childrens caretakers. (If you take
an “Angel” tag, please fill in your name and phone number on the attached red slip and place it in the designated
container. We need this in case gifts have to be tracked.)
If you purchase clothes as your gift, please enclose a gift
receipt. Gift cards for older children are always a good
choice.
Gifts must be returned by Sunday, Dec. 7, and will be
distributed on the feast day of St. Eulalia, Dec. 10. The
tag must be attached to the gift.
