Arts & Crafts
Beginning Quilting Sampler Class
You
will
finish
a

block
Sampler
quilt
top.
You will need to come in to Quilt Harbor before class and pick out 4-5
fabrics, of your choice, that we will kit up for this class. The fabrics will
stay here and you will pay for them as you go through the class. The class
is $35.00 and you will pay $8.00 a block to pay for the fabric. When the
blocks are done you will need to purchase fabric for the
sashings, cornerstones, borders, backing, batting, and binding. The
quilting of the quilt will be your choice of finishing on our long arm
machine, hand quilting, machine quilting on your machine, or have
someone do it for you. You will learn how to cut with a rotary cutter
and mat, how to find your perfect quarter inch and scant quarter inch,
on your machine, and why. We will
be doing half square triangles, flying
geese, mitered edges, machine
applique and hand applique,
(optional depending on each
person’s limitations). We may add
one or two classes if needed to
finish.
Supplies:
Grey thread, small scissors for at our
machine to nip threads. rotary cutter, small cutting mat, pins, 6-1/2in x
6-1/2 in ruler, fabric marker that disappears like "Marks b Gone", your
own machine, cleaned and oiled and ready to go. (We service and repair
machines here but not during class), also the book that goes with your
machine if you have it. You may come in before the first class and choose
your kit or wait till the first day of class and choose one I will have done.

Glassblowing
Learn how to blow glass. Come, feel the
excitement of glassblowing. This hands-on
art class will let you understand the
processes and basics. You will produce
multiple pieces in the class. All supplies are
included: glass, colors and tools. Ages 10

Crochet Basics
Have you thought about crocheting but think it’s too hard? This workshop will
introduce crochet basics such as slip knots, chain stitch, single crochet, double
crochet, slip stitch and a few others. You will learn some basic techniques for
starting and ending colors. We will learn how to add more yarn in a seamless
almost undetectable way. We will go over abbreviations and learn how to
decipher a pattern and we’ll cover some great resources for free patterns! We’ll
also cover some yarn basics.
Students will need to bring a crochet hook size H or I, a pair of scissors, large
eye, blunt needle and a skein of Red Heart Yarn. It should be a light or bright
color.

Weekly Art Classes with Debra Norton
Basic Drawing: Students will be drawing a plaster cast in charcoal. They will
learn drawing and value relationships.
Cast Painting: Students will paint a plaster cast in oil in black & white paint,
continuing to develop drawing skills and learn paint handling. Students must
complete Basic Drawing to take cast painting.
The Still Life in Oil: From setup to completion students will increase their skills
in composition, drawing, color, value & edges.
This is a 15 week course and is for age levels from 15 to adult. Min class size is
4 and the maximum is 8. Class fee is $150 and there will be material fees as well.
It is recommended that if you intend on taking this class, you register
early AND call Debra for more complete information and supply lists.

Hypertuffa Planters
A fun & easy class to take. We will leave with a finished product
to plant for Spring. These are pots, bird feeders or seed bowls.
Originally made in England. They are lighter weight than clay
pots and will not crack in the winter! Instructor/material fee
of $20.

We will meet Monday evenings starting September 15th and continue each
Monday evening through October 13th (five meetings total). Everyone is
welcome: no requirement on knowledge level. The class will be a mixture of
grammar and practical application and will be focused on beginning Spanish.

Calligraphy – Dancing Letters
Come join me to learn a fun way to decorate your cards and envelopes. With a
new design and color, these dancing letters pop out on any page. Be ready for
Birthdays and Holidays!
Students should register early. Class size is a minimum of 8 students and a
maximum of 15. This class is for students 10 years and older.
There is an instructor fee of $20 and a material fee of $5 payable to the instructor
and the students will need to bring colored markers, colored pencils, crayons
and/or fine tip sharpies. You do not need to bring them all but at least bring a
fine tip sharpie.

Home, I believe is challenging the status quo and thinking different. I believe
how we change the status quo is by making products Eco-friendly, Efficient,

Buddhist monk Thay Kobai Whitney will
explain some of the latest research on
meditation. It can work to improve memory

In this sequel, Buddhist monk Thay Kobai Whitney will review some of the
latest research on meditation, then demonstrate several forms of movement
and seated meditation, exploring some of the common pitfalls and distractions

together in silence as well as discuss how they apply the fruits of meditation
and mindfulness to their daily lives.

Lunch for your Brains: Our lunch time series of programs meet in the
basement community room, usually on the 4th Tuesday, September through
November, from noon to 1PM.
We invite you to bring a lunch: we’ll provide coffee, cookies and “food for thought”. You are
also invited to the Friends board meeting at 10:30 am on the same day.
September 23 – Leif Tangvald – “Occupied Norway WWII through the Eyes
of a Child” His entire family was active in the Norwegian Underground
fighting the Nazis. He was involved the last few years of the war. Leif was 7
when the war was over. His family and he immigrated to the US in 1947.
*October 21 – Jo Robinson – “Eating on the wild side: the Missing Link to
Optimum Health”
October 28 – Douglas H. Rhoades – “Labels, Leadville & Lore: History from
a Tin Can” How finding some food cans in Colorado from the 1870’s-1890’s
led this author to write a book.
November 15 – The Margaret Downey Community Service Award will be
presented to a special someone who contributes to our community well-being.

PLEASE report to the Ranger at each park prior to commencing work to
obtain work assignments and to sign the volunteer sheet. State Parks get
credit for volunteer hours at each park so this is important to ensure proper
credit to the park you are volunteering at. Don’t forget your Discover Pass!
Passes will also be available at each park by contacting the Park Ranger.

REGISTRATION IS EASY
Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Classes have minimum and
maximum enrollments. Please mark your calendar with dates, times and
locations of selected activities. Call 360-581-0584 to confirm or cancel your
registration. Pre-registration is required so our instructors can plan for
you.

Fill out registration form, enclose check or money
order payable to “Montesano Community Education”
in an envelope and take to Pickrite Thriftway in
Montesano and put in the drop box located at the
customer service counter between 7:00 am and 11:00

THE INSTRUCTOR OR MATERIAL FEE SHOULD BE PAID
DIRECTLY TO THE INSTRUCTOR AT THE CLASS.
GIFT CERTIFICATES:
You may purchase gift certificates by calling 360-581-0584.
CANCELLED CLASSES:
If your class is cancelled by MCE, you will be notified and a full
refund will be processed.
SCHOOL CLOSURES:
If Montesano Schools are closed due to inclement weather,
Community Education activities will not meet. Classes will be
rescheduled.
REFUNDS:
Refunds must be arranged at least two days prior to the start
of
class.
