The holiday season is fast approaching! There will be lots of events and
fun seasonal things to do. Girls Night Out is Wednesday, December 3rd,
6:30 p.m. at Echo Valley. It’s the 7th anniversary of Girls Night Out and
will be a great event as always. We will be pulling the Placer FFA kids
again this year in the Festival of Lights Parade in December. We might
add another EVR truck or 2 just for fun. We will be closed November 27th
for Thanksgiving. I know some people will be cooking those delicious
turkeys from the fair that day, can’t wait! Persimmons, pomegranates,
walnuts and mandarins should be arriving soon. Holiday baking is one
of our employees’ favorite pastimes. Remember the Mandarin Festival on November 21st at the Gold Country Fairgrounds.

Echo Valley has secured all our hay contracts for the
winter, the barns up north are full of EVR hay. There is
a good supply of alfalfa, orchard/alfalfa, orchard grass
and grain hays. The only hay we have been short on
is good meadow grass, but we should have enough
through December. Wheat straw and certified weed
free Rice straw will be available all winter. Prices
remain high as the demand for good hay remains
strong.

Greg Kimler, Owner and Connie Watson,
General Manager of Echo Valley Ranch, Inc.
Greg’s father Gene Kimler started Echo Valley as a
hay business in Grass Valley on the original Echo
Valley Ranch. “Because we had livestock, we had hay
and large trucks; it was just natural to start hauling
and selling hay because it fit in with our ranch
livestock operation,” Greg Kimler said. That was
about 1970. As the business grew, Greg learned to

“My father always had a large scale at our ranch
and to this day we still weigh our hay and
are certified weigh masters,” he said. “That
