A Message from the Padre
T
his weekend, we are celebrating the “Solemnity of All Saints Day…followed by the celebration of the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls Day). These two days allow us to
experience the joy of being part of the great family of God's friends. All Saints Day and All Souls Day
are connected to each other because the celebration of these days causes us to be mindful of the judgment of God. All the saints and those who have died before us stand before the crown and glory of
God. Although we give special emphasis to friends and family members for whom we have been asked
to pray, we also thank God for his promise of salvation extended to all people who have gone before us
in the faith, especially those saints who have sacrificed in the name of Christ.
My dear friends, these two days are set aside for us to remember that the bonds of faith and
love we have established with our loved ones are not destroyed by death. We affirm that those who
have gone before us are present to God and present to us in a different but very real way. Saint John
Chrysostom once said that: “Those whom we love and have died are no longer where they were before… They are now wherever
we are.” This tells us that although it is true that we do not see, hear or feel their memories they are always in our hearts and
minds.
Yes, there is a certain truth in saying that life will never be the same again when we lose our love ones.
We cannot deny
that many things will change when someone dear to us dies. We have to remember that people’s lives change but they are not
ended. That is why we move on in remembrance of our loved ones in the hope of the resurrected Christ. It is in the spirit of this
hope that we gather and pray for our departed loved ones on these special days of “All Saints and All Souls”… to bring to mind all
that they were, all that they have left with us and all that they have become. Let us remember that they are the ones who have arrived… and we, the church, are still marching toward that fullness of joy in the kingdom of God in heaven.
"May the souls of all of our faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.”
Fr Joe

OUR LADY OF LOURDES
OUR LADY OF FATIMA
Our Lady of Lourdes and Our Lady of Fatima statues
have been circulating throughout our parish. We encourage all parishioners to consider taking one of the statues
into their homes for daily meditation and prayer. It is vital
to pray the rosary daily. For further information, please
contact Donna Casey 609-261-6172.
Did you know that in our country, compared to 50 years
ago, there are 20,000 fewer priests and 129,000 fewer religious
sisters? At the same time, the Catholic population has continued to grow steadily. Many factors have contributed to the
decline: growing secularism, a lengthened period of adolescence, attitudes about celibacy, etc. During Vocation Awareness week, please pray that young people in today’s society
will hear and respond to God’s call. And do your part to encourage them to consider the priesthood and religious life.
Join the invisible Monastery
Pledge to pray for vocations at the international web site:
invisiblemonastery.com. It was inspired by a 2012 document
from the Congregation for Clergy urging Catholics to
“organize and ‘invisible monastery’ in which many persons,
day and night, are committed to continuous prayer for priestly
vocations.”
