re create arts & athletics WINTER CYCLE 2014-15 AFTERSCHOOL REGISTRATION INFO
WINTER CYCLE DATES: MONDAY, DECEMBER 8th TO FRIDAY, MARCH 13th
REGISTRATION: FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7
TH
TO SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 16th
What’s new for Winter Cycle? We’re looking forward to an amazing Winter Cycle for afterschool. As usual we
will continue with most of the same classes that we offered during the Fall, keeping in mind that some days the
winter weather may force us to stay indoors where physical activity is more limited. As with Fall Cycle, there will
be two sessions, Early 3:00-4:20 and Late 4:20 to 5:40…notated below simply as early or late.
Featured Classes
Musical Theater: It’s here! This year the school play for 2015 will be Cats. Rehearsals will take place Tuesday
Early-Late (until 5:40). The play is open to gr. 4-5 and the cast will be limited to 35 students. This class spans
Winter and Spring Cycles and children are expected to sign up for both cycles. Day and evening performances
will take place toward the end of May. We will also continue to offer Thursday Early gr. K-2 First Steps to
Musical Theater and Thursday Late gr. 3-5 Musical Theater Revue.
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math: At Re-Create we’re always looking for ways to support and
encourage children’s creativity. In our STEM offerings, we aim for the amazing work to be done not by
computers but by the children themselves. Wednesday Late gr. 3-5 Computer Animation with Mr. Barry,
Wednesday Late gr. 3-5 Lego Mindstorms NXT Robotics, Thursday Late gr. 3-5 Web Design (at PS 9). Math
Maniacs w Ms. Stephanie will not be offered during the Winter Cycle but we hope to bring it back for Spring.
Languages: Monday Early gr. K-2 Spanish with Claudia, Wednesday Early gr. K-5 Mandarin Chinese with Alex,
and Tuesday Early and Late gr. K-5 Native French with M. Rüsch. This new French offering has been organized
in cooperation with our several French speaking families at PS 166 who wanted a rigorous French option for
their native speaking children. If there is interest in a beginning class we are open to offering that as well.
Chess Classes: We will offer chess for all levels from beginning to advanced throughout the week. Offerings
include Monday Early and Wednesday Early gr. K-5 Beginning Chess, Thursday Early to Late (to 5:00 p.m.) gr.
K-5 Intermediate Chess, Tuesday/Friday Early to Late (to 5:00 p.m.) gr. K-5 Intermediate-Advanced Chess. For
this Tuesday/Friday option, students are invited by the instructors and are expected to attend both days.
Sports Include: Monday Early gr. K-2 Soccer, Monday Late gr. 3-5 Soccer, Tuesday Early gr. K-2 Gymnastics,
Tuesday Late gr. 3-5 Floor Hockey, Wednesday/Friday Early gr. 3-5 Track and Field, Thursday Early gr. K-2
Baseball, and Thursday Late gr. 3-5 Baseball, and Friday Early gr. 2-5 Double Dutch jump roping class.
Arts and Crafts: Ms. Laura’s arts offerings include Monday Early gr. 3-5 Sewing/Cross Stitch, Tuesday Early
gr. K-2 and Thursday Early gr. 3-5 Arts & Crafts, Wednesday Early gr. 3-5 “Back Stage” stagecraft class where
students will create the sets and costumes for the school play, which this year is Cats. Ms. Emily will continue to
offer Wednesday Early gr. K-5 Origami, and Thursday Early gr. 3-5 Art Masters.
Delinquent Accounts: Past due balances should be paid prior to registering for the next cycle. Most families
pay their bills in a timely manner and we appreciate that. In order to discourage late payments which increase
costs for everyone, we are instituting a late payment charge of $50. If for some reason you are unable to pay by
the posted deadline, please contact us so we can schedule a payment plan and avoid these extra charges.

Program Details for Afterschool at PS 166
Daily Schedule: 2:40 to 3:00 snack served, 3:00 to 4:20 early session, 4:20 to 5:40 late session, 5:40 to 6:00 pick-up. Please don’t be late!
Cycle Schedule: There will be three after-school cycles per year--Fall, Winter, and Spring--each lasting approximately 12 weeks:
Fall Cycle: 9/8 to 12/5, Winter Cycle: 12/8 to 3/13, and Spring Cycle: 3/16 to 6/12.
Pricing: Each enrichment class (e.g. Ballet, Rock Band, Creating Writing, etc.) costs $300 per cycle. Homework/Supervised Activity classes are priced on a sliding
scale--$125 for a single homework session, $70 each for those who select all 10 sessions. If a child signs up for Homework/Supervised Activity for early and late
sessions, five days per week, the total cost will be $700 per cycle for coverage until 5:40. Homework sections will be staffed by a certified teacher.
Pricing Exceptions: Mohr’s Explorers goes from 3:00 to 5:30 and is therefore priced higher. Int.-Adv. Chess is extended to 5:00 and meets two days per week
(Tuesdays and Fridays) so the pricing reflects the longer instruction time. Students may sign up for this class only with permission from instructors.
Musical Theater Program: Musical theater offerings on Thursdays for Winter Cycle include First Steps for K-2 and the Musical Theater Revue for grades 3-5. The
full PS 166 production of Cats will again take place over two-cycles (Winter/Spring) and the performances will take place in late May 2015. Ms. Laura’s “Backstage”
class will also return for Winter and Spring Cycles as students create the sets and costumes for another awesome production!
