the Hurricanes
suddenly surging
The ’Canes were the last NHL squad to secure their first win
of the season, going winless in eight straight contests out of
the gates. Since finally ending that skid, they’ve been on a bit
of a roll. The Capitals ended their four-game winning streak in
Saturday’s 4-3 OT decision in D.C., but the ’Canes have nine of
10 possible points since returning from Western Canada.
healing power
The Hurricanes looked sort of like an American Hockey
League squad during their Oct. 23 visit to the Saddledome,
with the Flames rolling to a 5-0 rout. Not to serve up excuses,
but the visitors did have a handful of AHLers in the lineup.
Since then, the ’Canes have welcomed back captain Eric Staal
and sparkplug Nathan Gerbe — among others — from injury.
sophomore sniper
The ’Canes have four wins so far. Sophomore centre Elias
Lindholm has scored the game-winning goal in three of ’em.
Lindholm was the fifth overall selection in the 2013 NHL Draft
— the Flames scored Sean Monahan with the sixth pick — and
the Swedish teen is showing the skill-set folks were expecting.

HEAD TO HEAD
C/LW Lance Bouma
Fourth-line forward has three
goals on this road-trip, with
Flames winning every time he
finds back of net
LW Brandon Bollig
Bouma’s linemate is still
shooting for first goal
as member of Flames
and has just two assists
special

C Elias Lindholm
The 19-year-old is on
a five-game point spree,
with five goals and two helpers
over that span
LW Jiri Tlusty
Still the ’Canes’ leading
marksman, but he’s been held
off the scoresheet
in his past four skates
G Jonas Hiller earned his first shutout for the Flames in a
5-0 blanking of the ’Canes in late October at the Saddledome.
The Flames also pitched a shutout in their last trip to PNC
Arena, with G Karri Ramo saving all 23 shots last January.
