Crop Insurance Deadlines
Near in Pennsylvania
USDA’s Risk Management Agency is reminding Pennsylvania producers that two
crop insurance deadlines are approaching this
month.
Beekeepers, and pasture, rangeland and
forage producers should be aware that the final date to apply for crop insurance under the
rainfall index program is Nov. 15.
And apple, grape, peach and pear growers
should be aware that the final date to apply for
insurance on their 2015 crops is Nov. 20. Current policyholders who wish to make changes
to their existing policies also have until Nov.
20 to do so.
The rainfall index is a group risk policy that
covers apiculture as well as forage and livestock producers’ forage grown for grazing or
harvested for hay.
The rainfall index uses National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration data. Payments to producers who suffer losses are
calculated on the deviation from normal precipitation based on producers’ selected deviations, amounts of protection and time periods.
A nationwide rainfall index insurance coverage map is available at www.rma.usda.gov/
policies/pasturerangeforage/. A mapping tool
is also available for producers to locate which
land is insurable. The tool has historical data,
coverage details and a premium calculator.
Pennsylvania apple growers should be
aware that price elections for 2015 are $12.75
