Kenmure Employee Holiday
Fund
Watch For Angels!
Christmas is coming soon and it is again time to
help out the less fortunate families in our
community. We will be participating in the
Salvation Army’s Christmas Angel program again
this year. In November the “angel tags” will be
hung in the Grill Room listing the names, sizes,
and special wants of these children. Stop by and
choose a tag or two and have fun shopping. Be
sure to sign your name on the clipboard so we will
know which children will be provided for.
Please remember during this holiday season
all the employees that make our club the
special place it is with a contribution to the
Kenmure Employee Christmas Fund.
Whether you golf the course or just enjoy the
view as you enter Kenmure there are
numerous people that work to maintain that
look. In addition to the employees that wait
on us as we enter the club there are many
behind the scenes in the kitchen and
maintaining our fitness center, pool areas,
golf course and tennis courts. They all just
seem to “make it happen”.
These gifts are to be unwrapped with the angel
tag taped to the package. If you have several
gifts for a child, place them together in a large
plastic trash size bag. Please return the gifts to
the Grill Room or to the Thornton’s home at
547 Pinnacle Peak Lane.
If you have any
questions, call Christina Thornton at 435-0954.
Please be generous in saying thank you to the
78 employees that make Kenmure special by
sending a check or contacting Traci Bates in
accounting at 697-9999 ext. 16 or e-mailing
her at [email protected].
In the past, Kenmure residents have been very
generous in their support of this program. If you
don’t want to buy everything for a child, consider
sharing an angel with a friend, or have your
bridge group, book group, etc. adopt a child or
two. Let us open our hearts and spread some
Christmas love.
Thank you in advance for your generous
support.

NEVER BE AFRAID TO ASK...
FOCUS GROUPS MEET TO SHARE IDEAS,
OPINIONS, COMMENTS: SERIES 1
To all Kenmure diners,
Kathy Meersman
Being a member driven business, we would like to
accommodate as many dietary requests as
possible. We would like to encourage all of our
guests to inquire with their server about any
changes or substitutions they would like, while
dining in any of our food service outlets. It is not
always possible to grant every request, but be
assured the kitchen staff will do everything
possible to cater to our guests' preferences.
In September 2014, 103 individual Club members
met in two Focus Group sessions to share their ideas,
comments, and opinions on several areas of Kenmure
Country Club. The Club House and Activities
Committee wishes to thank all those who
participated in these groups. We have listened to you
and have begun implementing many of your ideas and
suggestions.
If you would like something specific, please be
sure to call ahead. With enough notice, there are
few requests that we are not able to fulfill. Please
be of the mindset that "it never hurts to ask." This
allows the food and beverage staff the
opportunity to truly make our members feel
welcome and enhance their dining experiences
at Kenmure.
Three key words – quality, consistency, and variety
– appear in all aspects of the discussions which
centered around Club events, activities, food,
service and staff.
The participants uniformly see the Club as “the
heart of the Kenmure community.” The Club provides
a friendly atmosphere to meet, mingle and socialize
with fellow members. It enhances property values
and offers a place to welcome and entertain
members, families and guests.
Wine by the Case
Many of our Kenmure members are avid wine
enthusiasts and we have received a great deal
of interest surrounding purchasing wine
through the club. As you may well know, being
a retailer allows us to purchase many wines
that are not typically available to the general public
and at a significantly reduced cost. To accommodate
this growing demand, we would like to offer a wine
by the case program.
As a first impression is vital to any new and potential
members, participants felt it is important to
maintain the mansion’s appearance recognizing the
difficulty in maintaining a building of this age,
participants would like to see.
Any wine that the restaurant can source is now
available to you. As a service to all Kenmure
members, we will gladly order a case of any wine
you choose at only 20% above our cost. This should
prove to be a fantastic deal for anyone who would
like to take advantage of the retail agreements we
have with local wine purveyors.
FOOD MINIMUM REMINDER
Snowbirds & FullFull-timers: Fall is here! This is a friendly
reminder to please use your annual food minimum no

memorable bottles. Please be encouraged to
have him assist you with any questions
regarding wines from around the world.

Great Shots & Rounds
Congratulations to Dr. Richard Ludders who had a Hole in
One on Sunday, September 28th on the 9th hole.
Dr. Ludders used a six iron from 145 yards. This great
shot was witnessed by Mark Aspinwall. Congratulations!!
Golf Cart Towels
In order to provide better service to all of our members,
the Golf Shop will have cart towels available, for our
members who have their own carts, to use while playing
golf. The towels will be located outside the golf shop
next to the staircase leading up to the Grill Room.
Please refrain from using the towels out of our carts
staged in front of the Golf Shop. Please return all towels
to the small barrel outside the golf shop when you are
finished with your round. Thank you for your help in this
matter.
Sweeps Monies
Do not forget all sweeps monies will expire on
December 31, 2014. Stop by the Golf Shop and check
out all fall & winter apparel for 2014.
Kenmure Country Club Frost Delay Policy / Show & Play
The following procedures have been adopted in order to
provide clarity and efficiency in dealing with frost delays:
•
Effective during winter months, tee times cannot
be reserved before 10:00am
•
Tee time reservations for 10:00am or later can be
reserved up to one week in advance, by phone or in
person, from 9:15am to 5:00pm.
•
Show & Play - Anyone who desires to play before
10:00am may come to the Golf Shop in person and
ask to play. If there is not a frost delay on this day,
players will be allowed to tee off between 9:00am to
9:50am on a first come first serve basis.
•
All tee times reserved at 10:00am and after will be
kept as scheduled unless (at the player’s request) an
earlier “show & play” time is available.
•
If we have a frost delay that is 11:00am to 11:30am
the Golf Shop and Golf Maintenance Staff will try to
use a “Double Tee Start” or a “Shotgun Start” to
accommodate play.
COURSE CLIPPINGS
Josh Laughridge
November is the month when we
start to transition from the normal golf
maintenance to the winter maintenance. The
grass stops growing and it allows the crew time to
work on much needed projects like bunker sand
replacement, dead tree removal, and drainage.
Leaf cleanup is also still an ongoing project in the
month of November. Blowing and bagging leaves
is a large project that takes up much of the labor
during this period. We understand that this work
is sometimes a noisy process and we appreciate
your understanding.
Walking / Exercising on the Golf Course
I would like to remind everyone on the policy set forth
by K.E.I. in regards to walking / exercising on the golf
course. “No casual walkers will be allowed on Cart Paths,
or the golf course, after the beginning tee time of
9:00am during the winter.

WGA MUSINGS
Karen Skelton
Musings. We either muse about FINALLY! Golf season begins! Or WHAT? It’s mid-season already! Or WHERE
did this season go? OR - the biggie? Rain. The Opening Day game is canceled; we’ll see you for lunch. Or MidSeason game is canceled; we’ll see you for lunch. Or WHAT? Our Closing Day game is rained out? Good grief!
Again? Yep. And invariably, as SOON as golf is canceled and lunch is rearranged, the sun comes out. Why don’t
we change the dates? We have! And it seems not to work, but what DOES work is that everyone comes to lunch,
we have a good time, we laugh, we applaud, and we are vocally appreciative of the efforts of those who worked
hard to improve their games as well as those who worked hard on behalf of the KWGA to create a great
celebration!
In spite of the rain, it was a good year for golf. It wasn’t cart path only that often, but walkin’ or ridin’, Susan
Bush (9) and Penny Amerman (18) played more Tuesdays than the rest of us (although we chuckled about Susan’s
having great attendance when we played but being unable to make it to the Closing lunch to get her award!). Most
Improved for 9 holes was Sarah Buntin and Jane Mirka for 18.
This was the first year we were responsible for keeping our own Ringer record but not everyone remembered to
transfer either their scores or their card to the box before the end of season. Still, there were winners: Cathy
Wilder won low gross, and Debbie Dunderdale and Karen Skelton tied for low net for 9 holes, and Judy Clarke won
low gross and Jane Mirka low net for Flight 1 of 18 and Sue Amsler won low gross in Flight 2. Madlynn Shinn and
Linda Snyder tied for low net.
In September there were games and winners galore - Individual Low Net/4 Clubs + Putter won by 9-holers Kay
Swicord and Melissa Maybury for Flights 1 and 2, and Judy Clarke for 18; Individual Low Net/Most 3s, 4s & 5s
won by Ellen Wiesenthal and Melissa Maybury/Susan Fogle (9-Hole Flights 1 and 2 tie) and Jane Mirka and Carol
Lyons/Alice Clark (18-Hole Flights 1 and 2 tie). Penny Amerman and Jodi Rumford were a part of the winning team
of the 2014 WGA/MGA Fun Event, 1 Net Best Ball of A/B + 1 Net Best Ball of C/D. And the October Ryder Cup?
Well, that was a wash, so to speak!
Once again organized golf is complete. (WHERE did this season go?) Although Play for Pay ended at the end of
October, Tuesday Golf continues - call the Golf Shop and make a tee time for Tuesday morning. Before we know
it, it will be time to write again, to complete the form in The View for both KWGA Membership and Ringers, to
talk about signing up for golf using the computer, to remember that Pace of Play is just as important this year as
in years’ past, and to welcome our Snowbirds as well as the Who’s that? girls.
Next year will be exciting - 2015:
WOW! Leading KWGA will be President Candace Lewis, Vice-President Linda Mensch, Secretary Melissa Maybury,
and Treasurer Sue Amsler. Susan Fogle and Darla Krause are Hospitality chairs; Membership/Handicaps, Alice
Clark; 9-Hole Representative, Debbie Dunderdale; Tournament Chairs are Kathy Newbold, Judy Pendergast, and
Suzanne Gold; and, again, I will be writing WGA Musings.
Dorothy Walden will again tackle our Directory which will be on-line only. Linda Snyder will continue to purchase
Prizes, and Sue Amsler and Jackie Murrill will handle Ringers/Birdies. LaVonne McKay is returning to spearhead
our WCWGA and Interclub teams and we hope you’ll volunteer again to play in those events. Until then? We’ll see
ya on the tee!

With the passage of summer the sports activities move
inside to the indoor pool and fitness center. A trot on the
treadmill, a turn on the elliptical bicycle, a Pilates class, a
dance class or a few laps in the indoor pool, or simple
stretching exercise can help keep you in shape for the
next outdoor season.
MASSAGE AND STRESS: More and more people,
physicians, medical professionals and researchers are
recognizing the negative effects stress has on our health.
Evidence shows that stress can increase organ and
muscular inflammation.
SPORTS NEWS
Dick Carter
We all know the obvious things that increase stress in our
lives, but many things like lack of sleep and lack of
exercise often go unnoticed as major contributors to
stress. We usually can't get rid of the things that cause
us stress, so we just need to learn to deal with it better.
Whatever makes you feel good is going to help you
lessen the negative effects of stress.
Depending upon the temperatures the outdoor tennis
courts and the bocce pitch will be available until we
experience our first freeze which may have occurred by
the time you read this.
WATER AEROBICS: If your favorite sports team is
playing as poorly as mine, please join me for the 8:30 am
to 9:45 am, Monday through Friday, Water Aerobics class
lead by our wonderful volunteer instructors. We can
commiserate together and drown our sorrows in warm
saline waters.
The price of admission is most
reasonable….FREE and all you have to bring is a smile
and hopefully your bathing suit. Birthday suits are not
currently being encouraged. The various swim and
cleaning schedules are posted around the pool deck but if
you have any questions, positive suggestions or
constructive criticism, feel free to call George Tennille at
595-3022 and I will attempt to address any
“opportunities” you might have.
So stop and smell the flowers or watch a sunset, go for a
walk or a run, meet up with a friend, ... do whatever it
takes to lessen stress in your life. And do it often.
Massage is one of those things that helps reduce stress …
Massage feels good because it's good for you!

YOGA: Transitioning into a new season starts with little
steps, leaves turning, a chill at night and the start of
school. Making a transition into wellness may also begin
small. Perhaps a yoga class might fit into a change of
your wellness regime. Join Kenmure yoga, offered 2 days
a week, Mondays at 4:00 and Thursdays at 8:15. No
experience needed, no equipment needed, and your first
class is without obligation. Many experts agree on the
benefits of the practice of yoga. Come and see what it is
all about!
FITNESS CENTER: As a courtesy to your neighbors,
we ask that you occupy an individual piece of
exercise equipment no more than 30 minutes
when others are waiting.

AGELESS GRACE AND NEUROPLASTICITY: Are you
Brain Fit? Do you know what the five functions of the
brain are? Do you know that the most recent research
shows that if you don’t activate those five functions of the
brain daily you have a lesser likelihood of aging
gracefully? Have you read the research on brain
elasticity? Do you know that exercising the physical body
and the brain at the same time are now known to be
necessary for lifelong optimal function of both the brain
and the body? If you would like to learn the answers to
all these questions and what to do about them in a few
simple exercises, then join our AGELESS GRACE class at
the Kenmure fitness center at 4:00pm on Wednesdays.
No need to call in advance, just show up with Denise
Medved, the creator of the world wide AGELESS GRACE
program, who just happens to live in Hendersonville!!

MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TENNIS: Tip of the Month:
The serve is thought to be the most difficult shot to

PICKLEBALL: This fun racquet sport is for families and
seniors, offering a mild aerobic exercise and good
competition. We play at 9:00 am each Saturday on the
hard tennis courts, with paddles and wiffle balls provided
for new players. Last Saturday, we had 8 players which
kept both courts busy and a great time had by all. The
ultimate number of players is 12 to 16 in order to rotate
the teams and give some time for a breather.

plenty of days for play. There are now 4 indoor facilities
around Hendersonville for winter games to continue
honing your skills at this sport, which is the fastest
growing sport for seniors in America! See you on
Saturday at 9:00am. Call Bill Johnson for information 775-9931

measures it was a success with thirteen pairs
participating, our best turnout in years. It is significant
