Hanggang isang umaga....
"Araaay! Araaay ! Huhuhu....huhuhu...."
Narinig ni Nanay na umiiyak siToti.

Sa paaralan, ayaw nang makipaglaro kay Totiang kanyang mga kaklase at

Maya-maya, may narinig siya ng maliliit naboses.

A Child's Dream
By Joyce R. Loma
One cold and starry night, while a child was sleeping so tight, she dreamed
'thatshe was with an old woman who looked sick and was shaking and crying.
,,Hu-hu*hu-hu... I want to talk to you, my child," cried the old woman.
"Me? You want to talk to me?"a little scared, the child asked.
"Yes, my Dear Child" replied the old woman.
"What is it, please?" asked the child.
The woman wiped her tears and said in a trembling voice while she held the
child's tiny hand, "Come with me, my Child, I will show you something."
Under the bright shining sun that almost burned their skin, the old woman and
the child s-l-o-w-l-y, s-l-o-w-l-y climbed a barren mountain
They were tired, thirsty, hungry, and catching their breath when they reached
the top of the mountain.
"Whew! Finally, we're here now, my Child.l used to call this place Forest," the
old woman said.
surprised, the child said, "Forest!!?? But I can't see anything..!
"There are supposed to haveplants, trees, flowers, birds, and wild animals' Where
are they?" added the child.
,,The plants and trees are all gone, my Child! That is why there areno more
flowers... no more wild anirnals...and no rnore fresh air,"sadly explained the old
woman.
puzzled, the child lookecl at the old woman but did not say anything.
The woman decided that they go down the mountain. They walked and walked
until they reached a very dirty place called River Bank where lots of garbage are
scattered everywhere, and flies are all over the place.
"Look at these things! lt makes me sad looking at them," the old woman said,
pointing at the heaps of garbage.
"Before, the water here was clear and clean. Lots of fish lived here. But now, the
water is dirty and the fish died," she added.
Before they could walk farther, the child exclaimed, "Yuckkk! This place stinks...!
Let's get out of here! HurrY, Phaase!"
The woman nodded, and while on their way home, she told the child a story:
"you know,my Child, long ago, this was a very beautifr.rl place. Everything was
green. There were lots of trees where birds built their nests; the air was cool and fresh;
and the surrounding was clean where little children like you could happily play."
"Really?!But why has it tlecome like this," the child asked, while looking around.
"People abused me," answered the old woman.
Wondering, the child looked at the woman and asked, "What?! People abused
you? Who are you? Why do you know all these?"
am Mother Earth. This place is mine. I am sick and sad because people did not
take care of me. soon, I will clie if children like you don't do anything to save me," the
old woman replied.
',1
"Hah!lYou are Mother Earth?! exclaimed the child'
',yes, I am Mother Earth. Yor.: and the other children will help save me and take
care of me, won't you?" asked Mother Earth.
',Oh, M-o-t-h-e-rrr....l M-o-t-h-e-rrr! M-o-t-h-eee-rrr" the child uttered, almost
screaming.
The child felt a tap on her shoulder. She slowly opened her eyes and saw Mother
smiling at her.
,,Good morning, my Babyl Your favorite breakfast is ready! Get up now," Mother
said.
Cont€st Piece for Poem Recrlatlon
oh, you are such a lovely and wonderful butterflyl
You always keep me wondering why
You can fly so low, and you can fly so high
ln the wide meadow, and almost up to the blue sky,
You happily flutter here and there..,
Without so much care or fear.
You playfully dance around the garden,
Perch on a flower, then dance around again.
Do
you knaw that I really want to catch you?
But you're lucky, I should just let you fly and go.
Teacher said that God's tiny creatures like you
Have also the right to freely live, like I do.
