The Friends of the Abington
Township Public Library sponsor
the Election Day Bake Sale at the
Library. If you enjoy baking,
we'd love to sell your cakes,
pies, cookies, brownies, cupcakes,
breads and muffins. All proceeds
benefit the Abington Free Library.
Baked goods may be dropped off at
the circulation desk on November
3rd or early on the 4th. You will
receive one hour of service for
each batch of cookies or cake that
you contribute.

We may help pack emergency Thanksgiving food boxes
for elderly people who do not have enough food or we
may sort donations to make them ready for pick up.
Either way, it is a very rewarding experience. Dress
warmly and wear sturdy shoes. Only a complete

your help!
It is time to bring in new, unwrapped toys for
children in need. The US Marine Corps will sort
and deliver toys to children here in our own
community for the holidays. Toys will be needed
soon.
Senior High - Bring toys to the Service Learning

Junior High – Bring toys to the Reception Office,
Library or Guidance.
You will receive one hour of service for each toy
with a value (receipt) of $5.00 or more, for up to
three toys. Be generous. There are a lot of kids in
need!

2014 H&M Drug Free Slogan
Contest
H2O for Life

Deadline: November 14
High school students, grades 9-12, can visit
www.MentorFoundationUSA.org and enter the
message that keeps them motivated for
success and away from drugs. Mentor
Foundation USA will choose a winning slogan
and H&M will design a T-Shirt featuring that
slogan to be sold nationwide! The winning
student will receive a $150 H&M gift card, 200
of the winning T-Shirts to share with their peers
and the student will be honored at our
Shattering the Myths youth rally in Washington
D.C. in January 2015

In just three years this campaign has reached
over 100,000 youth in the mid-atlantic region

residential program for men and women age 1824. Members are assigned to one of five
campuses — Denver, CO; Sacramento, CA;
Balitmore, MD; Vicksburg, MS; and Vinton, IA.
Drawn from the successful models of the Civilian
Conservation Corps of the 1930s, NCCC is built
on the belief that civic responsibility is an
inherent duty of all citizens and that national
service programs work effectively with local
communities to address pressing needs.
AmeriCorps NCCC serves communities in every
state. You gain skills in at least 4 areas like
carpentry, fire-fighting and community redevelopment. You also receive uniforms, pocket
money, health insurance, room, board, and a
$5550 scholarship at the end of your year of

Do you have a band? We want to hear from you.
H2O for Life will hold a great concert featuring six
local bands, acapella groups and Step Teams. Your
band could be one of the featured artists. BUT – to
be considered, you must submit a demo CD to the
Service Learning Office by November 25th – before
Thanksgiving. Students will review all entries and
notify your band by December 10th, if you are in.
This should give you plenty of time to practice and
rally your people to come to the concert. All funds
raised will benefit the Prathmik Bal Vikas School in
Pokran, India where they will get fresh water and
sanitation facilities. (14+)

The Three Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf
Enthusiastic students are sought to
perform a few skits for three and four year
old children at the Abington YMCA on
November 19th. We will meet two times
before the presentation: Wednesday,
November 12 and Thursday, the 13th, after
school in the Service Office. Sign up is

Spend a little time helping at the
Crossroads Fellowship Church’s
Community Thanksgiving Dinner
Help set up, serve, package “to-go” meals and
converse with some of the hundred or more people
who have nowhere else to go on Thanksgiving.

Horsham HHoops, a local youth basketball
organization, will hold a Challenger basketball day
on November 22. The link to sign up is below.
Horsham Little League Challenger program is a proud

run by the Horsham Basketball program (HHoops) and is
scheduled for November 22nd from 11:00-2:00.
The HHoops Challenger Day is designed for children and young adults
with special needs. This free event is for individuals 8 years of age or older,
who have physical, developmental and intellectual disabilities.
It provides the opportunity to play, grow and thrive through recreational
and social opportunities.
