A Note From Your President
Hi Jazz lovers,
I was asked the other night “how long have we been at The Yokine Bowling Club?”!!
The 7th August 2007 was our first night here with the Debonairs Mk IV, featuring Lloyd Napier/ Bob
Robinson/ Jim Cook/ Milton Quackenbush/ John Hunter & Rick Alderson.
Seven years on it is a wonderful venue, improving all the time. People still have happy memories
of The Hyde Park and I’m sure a lot wish we had not moved. Life goes on. I certainly have some
fond memories.
Back to the present. Our Decatur Street Jazz band started this month off with a bang. Well done
Len Bagnall. Finally in the second week ,we had the pleasure of our good friend Lloyd Napier and
his Dixielanders one of my personal favourites. They had young Ben Clapin sit in with them;
such an amazing young man.
Helena River came to us on the 21st with Ben Clarke at the piano, as Vivienne still had her hand in
a cast from her operation. The Cornerhouse Jazz Band performed on Tuesday night and packed
the house out, we had to get another table out.
The first Tuesday in November is Melbourne Cup Day, so there will not be Jazz on that night.
On the 11th we have Libby Hammer, so come along and enjoy some great Jazz and fantastic entertainment. Libby is planning a more “traditional” repertoire and to visit some old standards made
famous by artists such as Fats Waller and Louis Armstrong.
We also have our Birthday night coming up this month, on the 25 th November.
Entry will be $5.00 for everyone, members and non members. Come along and help us celebrate
our Club’s Birthday.
I love the Jazz club and all the people who come to enjoy the nights entertainment. If you have not
been lately, it is worth the effort, things have changed. Just ring a friend and ask them along too.
The weather is getting better so venture out to the next session and have a great time.
There is still a lot of members I have not met yet so come and introduce yourself to the committee.
A hug is a great gift , one size fits all.
