Sewing Basics
Beginning Sewing: Daytime: Sacramento
Adults of all ages learn to sew in this great beginner class! We will guide you through
3 projects which you will complete in these 4 hands-on sewing classes. No previous
sewing experience is necessary! Don’t own a sewing machine? Not a problem, this is
a wonderful way to take a test drive. We will loan you a machine at no extra charge!
Learn new skills every week that allow you to progress and build upon that knowledge to complete each of the assignments. Your completed projects include a pillowcase, Capri pajama pants and a terrific bag! This class is a great value (and a time
saver) as all project materials are provided, including the fabric and $15 book. Don’t

What would you like to create? We can help you make it happen! Bring your machine
and your project (or try one of ours) and embark on the road to creative sewing.
Beginning sewers may want to start with a pillowcase or PJ bottoms, and from there
the possibilities are endless. Work at your own speed and learn the tips and techniques to help you make the most of your sewing time. Prerequisites: Machine Mastery 1 or basic knowledge of your machine. Beginner/Intermediate Level. Instructors

Garments
Pants for Any Body
Do you love the look and comfort of pants, but not the way they look on you? Using the
McCall’s Perfect Fit trouser pattern and personal measurements, you will learn how to
fit and construct tailored pants for you. You will learn construction techniques for the
pocket stay, easiest fly zipper, and no roll waistband. Learn the differences between
jeans, slacks, and trousers and how to allow for wearing ease in this workshop class.

Hand Sewing – Finishing Touches
The difference between a beautiful custom finished garment and a made-at-home
look is in the finishing details. Finishing touches for all fine garments are done by hand.
Learn the various hand sewing stitches and where and when to use them for couture
finishing. In this class you’ll learn hand rendered buttonholes, quick pick-stitching,
easy feather stitching, French hem stitches, covered snaps, and more. By the end of
the class you will have a sample of various stitches for future reference. Beginner level.

Advanced Garment Construction - Sacramento
This class is designed for the advanced seamstress who wants new construction ideas
and extra assistance in pattern adjustments and fitting. You select your own projects,
which can be for yourself or others, or simply pattern and/or garment alterations.
There will be a lesson each class meeting which will include demonstrations/handouts/samples explaining the lesson as well as sewing lab time. Advanced level. Instructor: Marilyn Stanley ($65)

Machine Embroidery
Embroidery Essentials
If you’ve bought an embroidery machine Congratulations! During this lecture/demo,
we’ll learn about needles, threads and stabilizers, and the essentials for a properly
stitched embroidery design. This class is strongly recommended for anyone with an
embroidery machine, and is a prerequisite for MMM 9 classes or the Embroidery Only
Machine Mastery class. $20 plus $7 supply fee. Staff.

BERNINA 880 Mastery Class
Bernina 880 Mastery Classes State-of-the-art technology combined with incredible
editing features for both sewing and embroidery are what make the Bernina 880 so
incredible. Meissner’s offers customers three full day classes covering all the wonderful
features of this machine. Session I: cleaning, oiling, threading and all of the sewing and
editing functions on the machine. We also cover how you can customize settings for
your sewing preferences. Session II: the BSR (Bernina Stitch Regulator) and memory
functions on your machine. Session III: the embroidery module, calibrating hoops, and
editing features for machine embroidery. The first part of the class will be a lecture covering the basics of machine embroidery for best use of threads, needles and stabilizers
to achieve a perfect stitch out. We will take a short break for lunch. Bring your sewing
machine with all of its accessories. The embroidery module is not needed for sessions
1 and 2. For session 2 you will want to bring threads you use for machine quilting. For
session 3 bring an assortment of embroidery threads. Class Fee is $150 per session or

This is a getaway evening the last Friday of the month spent with friends learning
techniques, fitting garments, altering patterns, and/or finishing projects of all kinds.

the evening Sit and Sews). This class is designed to be fun! Bring your favorite snack to

Project Embroidery
All Embroidery enthusiasts invited! Join Laura Silva our resident sample maker and
embroiderer, as she shares her secrets and techniques each month and guides you in

CD’s each month. Platium and VIP Anita Goodesign club members receive these Project CD’s with their monthly shipments. Diamond club and all other embroiderers may

Quilting Basics
Basic Quilting for Beginners: Daytime: Sacramento
Ever wanted to learn to quilt? Come take Beginning Quilting with Jeanne Powell.
Jeanne will take you through the steps to make a 9 block quilt with sashing and borders. After you have your quilt top together you will learn how to layer top, batting
and backing together and then baste it. You will machine quilt it using the stitch in
the ditch method and then finish off with learning to bind your quilt. Beginner level.

Scrap Therapy
Problem: Scraps are taking over your sewing space! Can’t bear to throw away those
little leftover pieces? Bags and boxes of random odds and ends stressing you out?
Need a way to organize and use them up? Solution: Scrap Therapy! Get those rebellious scraps organized and ready for a variety of great projects, from tote bags to table
runners to quilts. This will be an ongoing monthly class/club to provide physical and
emotional support for those of us who just can’t bear to throw away even one little
piece of those fabulous fabrics we love so much! Join us! You’ll feel soooo much better
as you see all those scraps turning into something beautiful and useful! (Don’t think

Do you hate to throw away those pretty/cute/clever/colorful selvedges? So do l, and
I’ve saved bags and bags of them. Come to this class and help me use them up! We’ll
make a fun project from the “Save the Selvedges” book - any project you want. Bring
your own selvedge strips if you have them. lf not, no worries – I’ve got plenty for

Intro to Fearless Free Motion Quilting
If you would like to learn to free motion quilt in a supportive and fun atmosphere, then
join me and learn how to begin quilting your own projects at home with your home machine. Free motion quilting allows you to work directly on your own projects with little or
no marking and no stencils. We will begin working on paper and make lots of mistakes
there then we will begin to play on fabric samples with confidence. This is not as hard
as you think! Take a look at the sample we will work on all of these motifs in class. Free

Fearless Free Motion Fills & Frills
If you have some experience free motion quilting and want to learn more free motion
background fills, then join me and learn how to select and quilt “fills and frills”. You can
add stunning texture to your quilts, wearables and home décor with a new bag of tricks!
Together we will build on the skills that you already have and learn a variety of fills and
frilly motifs to add to your projects. My classes are supportive, fun and encouraging-you
just can’t get too serious about this! Most of the motifs will be learned free hand and a
few will have some marked reference points. We will begin working on paper and make
lots of mistakes there-then we will begin to play on fabric samples with confidence. I
want you to bring some fun new threads to play with too! Take a look at the sample-we
will work on all of these motifs in class-and more! Let’s get beyond stipple and start to
have fun with a variety of motifs. Some free motion experience recommended. Instructor: Jenny Lyon ($45)

Baby Lock Serger Accessory Feet
The additional Baby Lock accessory feet not only allow you to expand the capabilities
of your machine but they also allow for more accurate professional results. This class
will explore the most popular of the additional feet available for the Baby Lock serger.
Samples will be made covering the basic use of the feet plus some various spectacular
uses. The extra feet will include the beading foot, blind hem foot, cording foot, elastic
foot, ruffling foot and the clear foot. Fabric sample packets will be supplied. Prerequisite:
