It was very disappointing last weekend to be blown away by Mother Nature! Due to the gale
force winds at both West Lakes and The Port, all water training was cancelled. Credit to our
creative coaches, however, who were able to come up with some fun land training involving
beach running in the water and sand, a surf lifesaving style 'flag grab' race and the now
famous 'Ruby Circuit'. Well done in turning a potentially disastrous day into something
worthwhile.
From the President
This week we are back into regattas at West Lakes with the first of the Schools Super Series
Regattas of the season. These four regattas differ from the standard regatta in that points are
awarded which contribute to a premiership table for crews and Schools. The last two Schools
Super Series Regattas also determine lanes for Head of the River.
We wish all of our crews good rowing, especially the Year 8/9 boys who have their first outing
at West Lakes!

Regattas and Events:
FROM THE PRESIDENT
The coming month is going to be an exciting phase of the rowing season, with a varied palate
of activities ahead of us.
The most exotic of these will be the club's participation in a two day regatta on the Murray, at
Berri in the Riverland. We've decided to literally test the waters with this exercise for two key
reasons. Firstly it offers a great training and competition opportunity for our intermediate and
senior rowers, and secondly it helps support one of the state's country rowing clubs. These
clubs rely on participation from afar to be viable and as a club we'd like to play a small role in
offering our support. It will also be quite an adventure for our rowers and will help galvanise
team work and crew combinations. I think it'll also be a great adventure for parents, as we'll
have the chance to truly sit back and enjoy the regatta, without all the effort that commonly
goes with West Lakes events. On the Saturday night we're planning a group meal which
should be relaxing and fun for all. This is by no means a compulsory weekend for parents, but
we're hoping to have as many attend as possible, to help with transportation of rowers. For
intermediate and senior parents, please put 6 to 7 December in your diaries.
Next weekend (15 November) will also be a cracker. Our Rowers will be competing in the
'Around the Island' event at West Lakes. This means a short day for us, allowing time for
setting up Wyatt Hall for the Quiz night that evening. Posters are out and hopefully you've
seen it in PRW in recent weeks, but please tell friends and family and see who you can
encourage to come along. It's a great night - plenty of fun for everyone and a key event in the
season for supporting our club. Please book soon!
Finally our wine drive is underway and this is a genuine win-win. There is a good selection of
wine at terrific prices, with all profit going to the club's fundraising efforts. The wine drive is
open to anybody, so please don't hesitate to share the list with family, friends and work
colleagues.
See you at the regatta this weekend and – go Pulteney!
