Welcome
Railport system
to the PORT OF GOTHENBURG and
THE RAILPORT SCANDINAVIA
Welcome to Railport Scandinavia – a highly efficient railway network
who connect inland terminals throughout Sweden and Norway with
the Port of Gothenburg. A cost efficient and sustainable transport
solution with connecting traffic to the rest of the world.
RAILPORT INTERMODAL SYSTEM
The Port of Gothenburg has the best conditions in Sweden
for rail traffic and a highly efficient ”on-dock rail terminal”.
Sweden’s most important consumption and production centres
are served every day by 24 daily intermodal rail shuttles
– and more are on the way.
RAILPORT CONVENTIONAL SYSTEM
In addition to railport intermodal system, customer adapted
train systems contribute further both to improved service
and reduced environmental impact. Customer adapted
whole train systems arriving to the Port of Gothenburg
are an important cog in our vision of efficient, sustainable
transports. Steel, paper or sawn timber etc – there are
many good examples and each solution is entirely
tailored to our customers’ needs.
RAILPORT TERMINAL

Port of Gothenburg. The terminals offer
a wide range of services, for example
customs, storage and empty depot.

VOLUME DEVELOPMENT
The railway is for our customers an increasingly important link in the transport chain. Since 2002
alone, rail transports to and from the Port of Gothenburg have increased from 6 to 24 daily shuttles.
About half of the container transports now go to and from the port by rail*.

REDUCED ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Moving goods from lorries to trains has significant environmental benefits. Each year, the railport intermodal
system shuttles save 59 000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. That would equal the emissions from 23 000
passenger cars during one year. See reduced environmental impact per destination on page 5.

RAILPORT TERMINAL RATING
In order to provide a clear overview of the services
that each terminal can offer, the Port of Gothenburg
is currently classifying the various terminals.
The quality of the operations in the terminals is
measured and evaluated with a five-point scale
rating system. The rating is based on four parameters: conditions and geographical location, range
of services, safety and security and physical layout.

CUSTOMISED SOLUTIONS
Steel, pulp, paper or sawn timber – there are many good examples and each
solution is entirely tailored to our customer's needs. The goods is transported
to the port using conventional freight trains and then reloaded into containers
and onto trailers before being shipped to export markets all over the world.
The system is an excellent complement to the railport intermodal system.
