The 2014-2015 Education Council has worked
very hard to make the 2014 Fall Institute
educational, fun, and in keeping with the
standard of excellence for which the Chapter was
honored at the 2014 Annual National Institute
(ANI). We are proud to announce that almost half
the sessions include a provider as part of the
panel, representing eleven (11) different hospitals
and/or systems from California, Georgia, North
Carolina, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. Now

SESSIONS OFFERED
Advanced CPAR Program sessions will be offered
Wednesday, November 5th with the first session
at 9:00 a.m., followed by two additional sessions
beginning at 12:00 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. These
sessions are included as part of the full Institute
registration; however, anyone with staff members
wishing to only attend these sessions for credit
hours in the Program should refer to the separate
registration that can be found on our chapter
website at www.georgiahfma.org. Advanced
CPAR registration deadline is October 31, 2014.

and what changes are coming up for 2015.

FALL INSTITUTE 2014 FEES
There are three different fee schedules, provider
($99), regular and on-site registration fees.
Regular registration ($245 Member/$290 Nonmember) has been extended through October 31,
2014. Payment must be RECEIVED by October
31st to take advantage of the discounted fee.
On-site registration fees are $290 for members
and $315 for non-members. Registration fees
include admission to the Institute, the cost of all
regular sessions, session materials, luncheon,
receptions/dinners,
continental/prayer
breakfasts and breaks. Only registrants may
attend the breakfasts and luncheon. Guest fees
are intended for a sponsor or significant other
who accompanies the registrant to the evening
events. Registration fees and guest fees are not
prorated for separate functions. Name badges
are required for both registrants and guests.
Refunds cannot be given on cancellations made
within ten (10) days of the Institute.

program, Emory Healthcare improved its University Health Consortium (UHC)
quality performance rankings from a position in the fourth tier out of five tiers
to two Emory hospitals achieving a top 10 ranking among all UHC members.
Emory’s CDI initiative also resulted in a decrease in mortality index by over
45% and case mix index improved by more than 14% for a significant impact
on reimbursement.

The Affordable Care Act is increasing the competitive nature of the insurance
market at the same time that both public and private insurers have been
using market power to change reimbursement to health care providers. This
session examines methods of reimbursement, the data and measures used to
support those methods and the impact of insurer competition on the adoption
of those methods.

William Custer is an expert in the areas of employee benefits, health care
financing and health insurance.
Prior to joining the college in 1995, he ran his own research firm in
Washington , D.C. Custer also has been the director of research at the
Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) in D.C., as well as serving as an
economist in the Center for Health Policy Research at the American Medical
Association. He authored numerous articles and studies on the health care
delivery system, insurance, retirement income security, and employee
benefits.
Dr. Custer is the director of the Center for Health Services Research and holds
a joint appointment in the Department of Risk Management and Insurance.

Quint Studer spent ten years as a teacher before entering the healthcare
industry in 1984 as a Community Relations Representative. From then until
he founded Studer Group he served as Department Director, Vice President,
and Senior Vice President at a number of organizations and as president of
Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Florida.
Each of these experiences built a platform for creating tools, techniques and
systems aimed at improving organizational performance and—most
importantly—patient care. In 2000, after numerous requests by organizations
for assistance, Studer Group was formed.
Additionally, Mike will also discuss the current status of exposure drafts and
other projects which may impact healthcare organizations, such as leases

Susan Clark is a Senior Manager in the Atlanta office of Pershing Yoakley &
Associates P.C., who specializes in tax-exempt and healthcare organizations.
Her twenty-three plus years of experience in public accounting includes all
aspects of federal and state income taxation. Susan has specific experience
in tax accounting and reporting issues for exempt organizations, including
issues and studies related to private inurement, private benefit, unrelated
business income tax, and tax-exempt status. She has represented clients

Julie Salomon is a Senior Data Analyst at 3M Consulting Services where she
is involved in DRG Assurance and Data Analytics. Ms. Salomon’s education
includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Intensive Care Internship, and
Infection Control Practitioner Certification. Ms. Salomon has practiced
nursing for 27 years with ten years in clinical nursing and 19 years in training
and educating CDI Specialists, Coding Professionals, and Physicians on
concepts of documentation improvement, compliance, severity/risk adjusted
mortality in both MS-DRG (ICD9/ICD10) and 3M™ APR™ DRG methodology.
Ms. Salomon has enjoyed working with a variety of hospitals including small
hospitals to large university systems across the nation.
Managing Consultant, Navigant Healthcare
Justin Roepe is a managing consultant for the Technology Solutions segment of
the Navigant Healthcare practice with over eight years of healthcare industry
experience. During his time at Navigant, Justin has held various positions in
business development, service delivery and product development. Currently,
Justin works with health organizations across the U.S. to develop analytics
around revenue cycle, operations and coding compliance using both Navigantdeveloped applications and Microsoft tools. Justin is the recipient of Navigant’s
“Best Innovator” award for his contributions within healthcare technology. In
2011, Justin joined the Georgia HFMA chapter. He has served as the Chair for
Benchmarking and Surveys and is currently a member of the Technology Team.
