child to participate in this training, please notify the
church office in writing by November 20th.
*Christmas Program: A suggestion has been made that
St. Anne’s put on a Christmas program. If anyone in the
parish is interested in organizing a program, or
participating in one, with practice and planning outside

November 16th.
KIMBALL AREA FOOD SHELF: How
grateful we have been to be able to
help those in need at the Kimball Area
Food Shelf, Inc. this year. We serve an
average of 50 to 60 families a month.
Need is great all the year in our community, but even
more so during the holiday season. Any food donations
you are able to share with those in need is most
welcomed. A few suggestions as to the type of food we
need would be: jelly, cake mixes, frosting mix, flour,
sugar, powder sugar, brown sugar, baking products like
chocolate chips for holiday baking. Donations of money
will also be accepted. As we go through our holidays
lets continue to remember those in need in our own
Kimball area.
Thank you for your continued support to the Kimball
Area Food Shelf Inc. Donations may be brought to any
of the local churches of St. Anne’s Church and left by
the Food Shelf door. Or mailed to: Kimball Area Food
Shelf, Inc., PO Box 99, Kimball, MN 55353
Thank you, Mary Mathies, Kimball Area Food Shelf

GOSPEL CONNECTION: Dedication of the Lateran Basilica
Two buildings, one table
As you enter, the soaring arches and columns
and the brilliant stained-glass windows take your breath
away.
But in another place you have to bend your
body almost in half to squeeze through the small
opening, large enough for a human to get through but
small enough to keep out the farm animals roaming
outside at will.
In the first space, you sit on a cushioned chair or
a bench made of centuries-old hardwood. In the
second, you sit cross-legged on the dirt floor.
Ancient icons and magnificent works of art are
displayed in the many small chapels that line the outer
wall of the first.
A simple cross, fashioned by a local
woodworker of roughhewn wood from the old trees
nearby, hangs in the center of the second.
Chant and incense fill the air of the first space;
in the second, the community sings a folk song in the
local dialect to the beat of a drum and the melody of a
wooden flute.
Brocade and silk are worn by those who preside
in the solemn setting; a plain, thread-bare robe, no
longer white, is worn by the presider in the simple hut.
Two, churches:
the first, a magnificent
cathedral in one of the world’s great cities; the second,
a small hovel of wood and thatch in a farming village
somewhere far away. The distance between the two
houses of worship is much greater than miles.
But at the center of both places is the same:
A table on which is placed bread and wine.
And a book of stories of, by and about God, the
loving Father of all, who invites everyone to wherever
his table is placed.
Today we celebrate the dedication of the
Basilica of St. John Lateran. The Lateran is the pope’s
cathedral as Bishop of Rome – as such, it is the “mother
church" of the Christian world. Today’s solemnity is
more than the honoring of our “first church” – today is
a celebration of the unity of all our churches: the
pope’s cathedral, a village church in the African bush, a
Latin American favela, or our own parish community.
The body of Christ is not a building but Christ himself;
God is not found in this building but in the people who
gather within these walls. Today’s solemnity calls us to
realize the sacrament we share that marks our identity
as the people of God, the Church that the Risen Jesus
formed at his table to which he calls all of us to bless,
break and share his body and blood in the Eucharist.
