THE DEDICATION OF THE LATERAN BASILICA
Today is the feast of the Dedication of St. John Lateran Basilica
This year has been very unique concerning feast day on Sundays. Normally most feast days are not celebrated when on a Sunday, but
there are exceptions. This year we have celebrated, Sts. Peter and Paul, The Feast of the Holy Cross, All Souls Day, and now The
Dedication of St. John the Lateran Basilica on Sundays. These all take precedence over the normal Sunday celebration. St. John the
Lateran Basilica Dedication is celebrated as a Major Feast because it is the first Basilica of Rome and the center of the Catholic Church. St.
John the Lateran Basilica in Rome is the oldest of the four great "patriarchal" basilicas of Rome. In ancient times, the land on which it
stands was occupied by the palace of the Laterani family. In the time of Nero, a member of the family, Plautius Lateranus, was accused of
conspiracy against the emperor, and his goods were confiscated. The palace eventually came into the hands of Constantine, the first
Christian emperor, through his wife Fausta and then was given to the Church’s care. From that time on it was always the center of Christian
life within the city; the residence of the popes and the cathedral of Rome until St. Peter Basilica became the center.
Fire Rally Last Saturday, November 1, we had an awesome event with nationally known speakers, a time for reconciliation, and Mass.
Close to 600 people attended from all parts of Western PA, NY, and WV. Santos Hernandez organized the event. I can never thank him
enough for being so “on FIRE” for the Lord and the Faith. He did the work of at least 3 people in organizing the event. We are so blessed to
have him head this up as well as lead our Men’s weekly on Saturday’s. I also want to thank Rege Reinersmann our Business Manager
who worked tirelessly as well for this event. Thank you Fr. Joe and the North American Martyrs Parish for sharing in this event and
sponsoring it with me and our parish, as well help in planning, organizing, and participating. Thank you to all others who helped in anyway.
Thank you to all who came!!! We have now lit the match, let us set this parish on FIRE for God and set Monroeville and the surrounding
area on FIRE as well.
AMEN, ALLELUIA!
Feast of Christ the King November 23 The Church year ends with the last Sunday being the Feast of Christ the King, reminding us that at
the end of time we will see Jesus as the King for all eternity. We will have a Holy Hour at 4:00 pm in the Church. Please put time aside
honor our King Jesus and prepare for the New Year.
Missalettes and Hymnals Beginning with the New Church Year on the first Sunday of Advent, November 30, we are switching our
hymnals and missalettes. We will now have a 1-year Missalette-Hymnal combination, with all the Sunday readings as well as the weekday
responses in one book. This will eliminate several shipments throughout the year and we will save money on shipping costs. Also it will
eliminate 1 book in the book holders. Please be patient the first few weeks as you get used to this new book.
Parking Please be aware of the no parking areas and fire lanes, as this is causing serious issues on our campus. DO NOT PARK NEXT
TO ANY YELLOW CURBS AROUND CHURCH OR SCHOOL. DO NOT PARK BEHIND THE CARS ON THE LOWER LEVEL IN FRONT
OF CHURCH OFFICE, AS WELL AS IN, FRONT OF THE LOURDES SHRINE, AND DO NOT PARK ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE
ENTRANCE DRIVEWAY NEAR THE PRIESTS DRIVEWAY. In the event of emergencies these areas need to be clear for emergency
vehicles and for others to pull in and out for anointing of the sick in hospitals and homes. Also, the people in the office Sunday morning’s
are often stuck because they are blocked in by others parked along the curb. I know our parking is limited, please be patient and willing to
walk a little extra distance. (Often people are double parked or illegally parked while there are several open parking spaces around the
Lourdes Center). Also remember you may park in the back part of the bowling alley and walk down the path. Thank you for your
cooperation in this very serious matter.
Thanksgiving Day Mass Plan ahead to attend Mass at 10:00AM Thanksgiving Day and give thanks to God for all our blessings. We will
also be enhanced by our Children’s Choir which always adds to our worship. Please remember the food and item collection for the Little
Sisters of the Poor as well as the money offertory goes to our Ladies of Charity.
Thank You Dorothy Kucimsky donated two framed pictures of St. Bernadette during her life, you will probably see them in the shrine area.
Thank you for the wonderful donation adding to our devotion to St. Bernadette.
Bible Study
The Bible Study on The Sacraments in the Scriptures continues on Monday evenings in the church at 7:30PM as follows: November 10
and 17. In addition, sessions will be held on Thursdays at 11:00AM in Biedenbach Hall on these dates: November 13 and 20.
Olive Wood Sales – shop early for Christmas
On November 22 and 23 our brothers and sisters representing the Christian Catholic Families of Bethlehem will be selling Crucifixes,
religious art work, and rosaries, - all made of olive wood which is native to Israel and Bethlehem. Since tourism has greatly depleted,
Christian families in the holy land, who depend on tourists, have been greatly affected. Sale of these goods will help them and also give
you the opportunity to have something authentic from the holy land. This is their main source of income. Please browse and buy some
articles. It is for a good cause and also a help to your personal devotion. See Website: www.bcfmission.com
Peace of Christ,
