Dust in the Sun
By Alan Allegra
I like the comic "Real Life Adventures" because it feeds one of
my favorite pastimes: making fun of real life adventures. On
the Allegra Refrigerator of Fame is this:
A coworker and I walked down the street after a storm. Above
the tall gray buildings, we could see the tall gray clouds with the
sun barely winking at us through the gloom. I said there should
be a rainbow and sure enough - according to God's promise
after the flood - there it was, brighter and more colorful than
"green" bulbs. We smiled.
If you've gone through hard times (and who hasn't?), you know
how problems tip the scales to the point where it seems the
blessings we have, including hope, fall off the other side.

Happy
Thanksgiving!
Priceless Treasure of His Love
“Jesus is coming soon!”
My niece told her grandmother recently, “You been saying that
for years, that Jesus is coming”
I said, ‘Oh wow, she is fulfilling scripture right there to prove
we are in the end times! The Bible tells us they will say,
‘where is the promise of His coming?’”
So the signs are everywhere and our commission is to reach
the world with the love of God and the message of salvation
before He appears!
Our purpose is to exhort and encourage others to fall in love
with Jesus, to repent and to accept the simplicity of His deep
and committed affection for you and me, then give it away to a
hurting world.
It is the best ”free offer” that has ever been put on the table for
mankind. It is a done deal and the value will never go down. It
has always been a priceless treasure and will remain that way
for eternity. Even the angels are even amazed with the story of
love for mankind by a God who created it all! What is to not
love about God!
The depth of His commitment to those who will receive Him
and the breadth and height of it all is the very thing that the
world, the human heart longs for. Souls are ripe for the harvest

We see people who go on suicide missions to please their
God and obtain rewards. Our God, Jehovah is pleased because the Blood of Jesus, the sacrificial Lamb of God has
been shed to pay the price for our redemption and bring us
home to Him. His arms are wide open, we are family! Faith
and love belongs to those who will accept the gift of salvation
with a repentant heart and come home to Him.
The door is open and every person on this earth is welcome to
receive the son of God and be adopted into the royal family. It
is a “love thing!”
I am convinced that every person wants to be loved unconditionally. They desire to have grace extended to them with
acceptance. My children had that the moment I knew they
were being formed and growing inside my body. I loved them
before I saw their face. I wanted them from the day I knew
they existed. That kind of love that we experience for our
children is a reflection of how God feels about you.
He created us to be a receptacle of His love and goodness.
We try to understand this love with our human reasoning in
comparison to earthly relationships where others give up on
us or reject us because we have not been or done things the
way we were expected to. People walk away, they leave,
withdrawing their fellowship and their affection because we
hurt them or failed to measure up to their standards. We then
tend to perceive that God is like that and miss the truth. God
wants us to be like Him and therefore we must understand
what is He like. We need to “get to know God.” We do that by
reading His Word, which He gave to us so we could look into
those pages and perceive His love and affection for us.
God is the very definition of Love! In the dictionary it should list
God and then say: LOVE
Love is God. What is love? Love is God Who is God? God is
love.
I believe we miss the comprehension of the passion and intimacy of this love because of the simplicity of it all. The love I
felt when I held my children for the first time was beyond
words. I would have laid my life down to protect those little
girls and they moved to the front of the line in my life . As they
grew older, I had days that my commitment of love never wavered but they tested it time and time again.
LDT Motors
“Good News” page 3
Their disobedience, especially in those awesome, wonderful,
teenage years brought a lot of correction into their precious
lives. I sometimes have days now that I feel like saying, “Talk
to the hand and come back tomorrow, but my love is deeper
than the ocean and wider than the expanse of the universe for
those girls, even when they disappoint me.
Now where did that kind of love come from? Where did the
love we have as parents originate from? Who authored the
love we have for family? it is the extension of the love of God.
If we love our children more than our own lives, how much
more, surely how much more is His love the source of what we
have in our hearts and yet it is expanded to the edge of infinity
in Him for you and me.
It is like a clear sparkling mountain stream. The cool, clear water is crisp and satisfying. It is life sustaining, but it flows from a
source much bigger than itself. His Love is so vast, so deep,
and so pure that it becomes difficult for mere men to comprehend the breadth, the length, the depth and the height of this
priceless treasure.

Romans 2:4 says, “Do you despise the riches of His goodness,
forebearance and longsuffering, not realizing that the goodness of God is what leads you to repentance!
If you do not know Jesus and desire to come to the knowledge
of this love and acceptance, please just ask Him with a simple
prayer and a sincere heart to forgive your sins and come into
life right where you are. Come home to Jesus and do not stop
searching until you find a church home where you can grow and
be loved in the days ahead. This priceless treasure of God’s
love is yours and I pray you understand that God has no partiality. He wants you to come to Him. It does not matter who has
rejected you in the past. He wants you. If you experience a
lack of love and concern in people, please understand that God
is not like that. Never let the way people treat you form an opinion of God. Jesus has His arms wide open to receive and forgive you. The way people treat you has nothing to do with how
He feels about you. He values you.

Riches in what? Goodness, forebearance, and longsuffering!
Who can reject a love like this? Only they who do not understand this too-good-to-be-true-but-it-is love relationship with the
Creator of this universe, the Father who sent His only Son to
die, that we could obtain this priceless treasure called salvation.
What kind of love it this that God would create mankind knowing the price it was going to cost Him. It is a “Priceless” love.
The holiday season is ahead. Thanksgiving and Christmas are
just around the corner and it is a sad and lonely time for many
people. This year I would like to challenge my readers to take
the time to look around you. Ask God who you can share His
love with in these special times. It does not take a lot to make
someone who has little happy. The cost many times is only that
of a hug and a warm coat right out of your car or closet, a cup
of coffee, a meal, or perhaps just your smile and a touch on the
shoulder to let them know they have value. Perhaps there is
one in your family you need to make peace with. Let love lead
you. Recognize pride and ask God to fill you with peace and
the knowledge of His love this season. We are a family called
to love one another as He has loved us.

A police officer pulled over a car. When he walked
up to the car, he saw that there were three nuns in
the vehicle. He said, "Ma'am, you're driving too
slow, could you please drive faster?" The nun replied, "Oh, I'm sorry officer. I saw a 21 on the sign
and assumed the speed limit was 21 miles per
hour." The officer explained, "No, ma'am. The
speed limit is 65. The highway is 21." Then the police officer looked in the back and noticed
that the other two nuns were in a tight
embrace and shaking like leaves.
"Excuse me, Sister," said the officer to
the driver, "but what's wrong with those
two?" "Oh," replied the driver. "That must
be because we just got off Highway 145."

Several years ago, Andy was sentenced to prison.
During his stay, he got along well with the guards
and all his fellow inmates. The warden saw that,
deep down, Andy was a good person and made
arrangements for Andy to learn a trade. After three
years, Andy was recognized as one of the best carpenters in the local area. Often he would be given
a weekend pass to do odd jobs for the citizens of
the community, and he always reported back to
prison before Sunday night was over. The warden
was thinking of remodeling his kitchen and in fact
had done much of the work himself, but he lacked
the skills to build a set of kitchen cupboards and a
large countertop, which he had promised his wife.
So he called Andy into his office and asked him to
complete the job for him. However, Andy refused
by telling the warden, "Gosh, I’d really like to help
you, but counter fitting is what got me into prison in
the first place."
A certain man’s first day back at the office after his
honeymoon was a difficult one. He came home

new wife and dug right in, finishing in no time. As
he looked up from his plate, he noticed that he

must be an engineer," said the balloonist. "I am,"
replied the man, "but how did you know?" "Well,"
answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is
technically correct, but I have no idea what to make
of your information, and the fact is I am still lost."
The man below responded, "You must be a manager." "I am," replied the balloonist, "how did you

the occupants. "Hope you had a good day at the

they are all mine and it is NO picnic!"
One day, a mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, chemical engineer, and computer engineer
were driving down the street in the same car when
it broke down. The mechanical engineer said, "I

"The way it sputtered at the end, I think it's not getting enough gas." The electrical engineer said, "I

the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endures for

Scripture as well, often coupled with prayer (Philippians 4:6).
When we can't see the sun for the dirt or the furniture for the
dust or forget to look for the rainbow in the clouds, we can
remember that, in all things, the Lord is merciful. He will not
allow our problems to crush us. He gives us breath and brains,
beauty for ashes and bread for appetites, while we struggle to
thank, praise, and trust Him. He offers eternal life and bliss to
those who accept His son, Jesus Christ. He gives us an infallible book with over 770,000 words of truth and hope. He gives
us . . . well, start counting - I'm running out of space.
Despite the Norman Rockwell image of happy families drooling
over Grandma's perfectly cooked turkey and polished silverware, everyone's Thanksgiving is not so warm and cozy. You
may be spending it alone or with people you don't like or in a
hospital bed, at work or otherwise not as you would want. Look
through the dirt and focus on the sun. Write your name and
your blessings in the dust. Don't turn from the window and
miss the view beyond your circumstances. Remember God's
promise: "And we know that all things work together for good
to those who love God, to those who are the called according
to His purpose" (Romans 8:28).
"O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy
endures for ever."

The Beggar's Rags
(author unknown)
A beggar lived near the king's palace. One day he saw a proclamation posted outside the palace gate. The king was giving a
great dinner. Anyone dressed in royal garments was invited to
the party.
The beggar went on his way. He looked at the rags he was
wearing and sighed. Surely only kings and their families wore
royal robes, he thought. Slowly an idea crept into his mind. The
audacity of it made him tremble. Would he dare? He made his
way back to the palace. He approached the guard at the gate.
"Please, sire, I would like to speak to the king."
"Wait here," the guard replied. In a few minutes, he was back.
"His majesty will see you," he said, and led the beggar in.
"You wish to see me?" asked the king.
"Yes, your majesty. I want so much to attend the banquet, but I
have no royal robes to wear. Please, sir, if I may be so bold,
may I have one of your old garments so that I, too, may come to
the banquet?"
The beggar shook so hard that he could not see the faint smile
that was on the king's face.
"You have been wise in coming to me," the king said. He called
to his son, the young prince. "Take this man to your room and
array him in some of your clothes."
The prince did as he was told and soon the beggar was standing before a mirror, clothed in garments that he had never dared
hope for. "You are now eligible to attend the king's banquet
tomorrow night," said the prince. "But even more important, you
will never need any other clothes. These garments will last forever."
The beggar dropped to his knees. "Oh, thank you," he cried.
But as he started to leave, he looked back at his pile of dirty
rags on the floor. He hesitated. What if the prince was wrong?
What if he would need his old clothes again. Quickly he gathered them up.
The banquet was far greater than he had ever imagined, but he
could not enjoy himself as he should. He had made a small
bundle of his old rags and it kept falling off his lap. The food
was passed quickly and the beggar missed some of the greatest delicacies.
Time proved that the prince was right. The clothes lasted forever. Still the poor beggar grew fonder and fonder of his old
rags. As time passed people seemed to forget the royal robes
he was wearing. They saw only the little bundle of filthy rags
that he clung to wherever he went. They even spoke of him as
the old man with the rags.
One day as he lay dying, the king visited him. The beggar saw
the sad look on the king's face when he looked at the small
bundle of rags by the bed.
Suddenly the beggar remembered the prince's words and he
realized that his bundle of rags had cost him a lifetime of true
royalty. He wept bitterly at his folly.
And the king wept with him.
We have been invited into a royal family - the family of God. To
feast at God's dinner table, all we have to do is shed our old
rags and put on the "new clothes" of faith
which is provided by God's Son, Jesus Christ.
But we cannot hold onto our old rags. When
we put our faith in Christ, we must let go of the
sin in our life, and our old ways of living.
Those things must be discarded if we are to
experience true royalty and abundant life in
Christ.
If we never learn to love one another with the love of God,
We will have missed our purpose in this life….cg

Remembering Jim
By Cheryl Stegall Gipson
Jim Littlefield was from Fritch which is located in the panhandle of Texas. He left this earth in 1998 to go home and be
with Jesus. If there was ever a man who knew horses it was
him. When my children were young, the family rode for recreation and it was Jim who taught my oldest daughter Amy
and me to ride. When both girls decided they wanted to ride
bucking stock in the junior rodeos, it was Jim alongside their
daddy that taught them how to get a deep seat and hang on.
His daughter Tracy was a cowgirl from the day she was born.
It was Jim who prayed for each one of them right before the
chute was opened and it was Jim I saw with tears running
down his cheeks the night Amy was injured and carried out of
the arena in an ambulance. It was his face I saw as I knelt
over her praying and he and Tracy were standing in faith for a
good report at the hospital. We got one!
Jim Littlefield was a cowboy with a covenant and he was a
good friend. Cowboys love the wide open spaces and the feel
of a horse beneath them. They have an appreciation for the
handiwork of God and have always taken the time to stop and
admire the canvas of this life upon which God painted His
beautiful world. It is always my desire to pay tribute to the
cowboy and to bring attention to the covenant that God has
established with mankind which extends to every race and
every nation, and right into the heart of the cowboy.
Jim was single, getting up in years and he raised a teenage
daughter by himself. We learned much from him and though
he could be onery and full of mischief, he loved Jesus. He
took Tracy to church on a regular basis and was a great cook
on top of everything else. I am glad that he was a part of our
lives and a friend of our family. This poem was a tribute to Jim
at his graduation service.
Jim
Jim left this morning early
To make his journey home;
He saddled up and rode away
to camp around God’s throne.
I know the angels came and
They made the ride with him;
I can hear the joy and laughter
As they call his name out, “Jim!”
I can hear him say, “I’m ready Lord,
let’s ride, there’s no more pain!”
And he mounted up beyond this
realm and rode the heavenly plains.
The angels marked the trail for him
That took him to that place;
And Jim was filled with glory
As he saw the Savior’s face!
He’d often talked to Jesus in a
language not his own;
For the Holy Ghost had filled him
up like nothing Jim had ever known.
Peace became his partner and
The keeper of his heart;
For Jim knew he was ready when
His hour came to depart.
We’ll think about granddaddy,
Our daddy and a good and faithful friend;
His loving smile and gentle touch,
Yet how he was stubborn now and then.
Set in his ways with a tender heart
God did so much in Jim,
And he cannot return to us,
But we shall go to him.
For grace has brought us all this far
And grace gave new life to Jim,
“We’ll see you soon and visit then,
From all your family and your friends.”

With Thanksgiving in view, you probably thought of the Pilgrims. Maybe, you had the honor of being in the first grade
Thanksgiving pageant, playing Governor Bradford, John Alden
(or Priscilla), Miles Standish or even Squanto. The Pilgrims are
a quaint relic of American history, their legacy relegated to
inflatable lawn ornaments and accordion table decorations.
However, there are still pilgrims today--and you may be one!
In 1517, the Reformation called for changes in the European
church. By the time you read this, we will have celebrated its
anniversary on October 31. Out of that movement came many
splinter groups. One English group, the Puritans, didn't believe
the Reformed church was pure enough, so they moved to
Holland. Despite their acceptance in Holland, they missed their
English culture and customs.
The English were colonizing the New World, which they
named Virginia. The idea of starting a new life in a new world
appealed to these Pilgrims; so, in 1620, the Mayflower set sail.
A pilgrim is someone who journeys in a foreign land. A pilgrimage is a trip to a particular location, usually for religious purposes. The Pilgrims certainly fulfilled both definitions: They
traveled to strange lands to find religious freedom for themselves. They became strangers and sojourners on the earth.

About 4,000 years ago, God told Abraham to emigrate from
his home in Haran to a strange land that would become his
new home (Genesis 12). He left everyone and everything to
follow God to Canaan. Two generations later, grandson Jacob
(Israel, Genesis 32:28) was asked his age by Pharaoh of
Egypt. "And Jacob said to Pharaoh, 'The days of the years of
my pilgrimage are one hundred and thirty years; few and evil
have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not
attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the
days of their pilgrimage'" (Genesis 47:9). Speaking of Abraham, Hebrews informs us, "By faith he went to live in the land
of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and
Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking
forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and
builder is God" (vv. 9, 10). God promised a new home for
these men--and all who follow God after them--therefore, they
admitted their time in this world was a pilgrimage.
Believers in Jesus Christ are heirs of the same promise given
to Abraham: "And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's
offspring, heirs according to promise" (Galatians 3:29). All who
follow Christ are modern-day pilgrims on a pilgrimage. We are
strangers in a strange land, seeking a better place, where we
can freely worship God: "And I heard a loud voice from the
throne saying, 'Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man.
He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God
himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every
tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall
there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away'" (Revelation 21:3-5).
We are Puritans, seeking purity of life and worship--strangers
to the world (2 Peter 4:3, 4). Thus, we sing:
This world is not my home, I'm just a passing through;
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue.
The angels beckon me from heaven's open door,
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore (Jim Reeves).
This Thanksgiving--and every day--give thanks for the salvation and reign of our pilgrim leader, Jesus (Revelation 11:15)!

What Ever Happened
to Good Manners?
By Cheryl Stegall Gipson
Call me old-fashioned or “not hip” but one thing that is quickly
becoming a “lost blessing” is good manners. Having been
raised in an era when politeness and good manners were part
of the educational process that began at home, I am continually shocked at the lack of such in today’s society. I have to
say that it is not just children, but adults who seem to think
nothing of interrupting someone’s conversation or stepping
into the line ahead of where others are already waiting. And, to
be perfectly honest, I see the majority of this among Christian
people and in the church setting! I sometimes feel that I have
been propelled into the future and have gone too far ahead of
my time.
When I was a girl, if I had interrupted my mother’s phone call
or her conversation with another adult, I would have been
firmly corrected and sent outside to play. If it had been urgent,
I would have been told to wait until she was finished with her
conversation and then I could give my “report.” Had it been life
threatening, or had I been covered in blood, then, and only
then would I have been allowed to interrupt.
Growing up, children in my day did not rule the house, but
were taught to respect the boundaries of the adult world with
good manners. That generation was not harmed by such respectful teaching, but it was part of learning such things as
consideration of others and regard for those who were older
and also for the authorities in our lives.
I remember how the sight of a policeman in uniform left me in
awe. The sound of the door to the principal’s office opening as
I stood in the hall for talking in class, made my heart race with

the dread of correction from an adult whose desire was to
teach me good manners and respect for those in charge of my
education. I knew that he knew that my parents would back
him up all the way! There was no question on that!
I found it interesting in writing this article that I could find no
clip art under the words, respect, polite and good manners! I
am confused over the elimination of these necessary qualities
for a healthy society, even in the smallest capacities.
Fifty years ago my mother could spank me on the sidewalk
outside the grocery store and no one thought anything, except
that “I needed it.” (And I did!) Not being allowed to interrupt
and receiving some occasional spats on the rear, did not make
me an abused child or a criminal. It taught me that there were
boundaries in this world and that if I wanted to have a good
life, I needed to obey and respect those in authority over me. It
helped shape me into a productive citizen and taught me that
what I wanted was some times to be put on hold to assure that
some one else could receive what they needed.
On a more positive note, I do want to say that I have found
many young men today who still hold the door open for me
when I enter a building. I have to restrain myself from hugging
a complete stranger as I thank them. They have no idea that
they have just brought back a little nostalgia from my days of
growing up and a bit of hope that courtesy is not a lost cause.
It is a blessing to me every time it happens.
Children are a reflection of what they have been taught by
example and by having boundaries with consequences. Today’s lack of good manners among our adults may simply be
an oversight without the realization of what they may be interrupting. It is still bad manners to interrupt conversations and
cut into a line where others have been waiting first. It is a reflection of Godly character to prefer others above ourselves.
“Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love,
in honor giving preference to one another….”
Romans 12:10
Let’s remember to be thankful this
Holiday season for the liberty we enjoy
here in America. The price for that
freedom has come at a high cost. The
blood of patriots is a never ending
reminder of the value of liberty. We must
never fall into apathy and become lax in
keeping watch over that which we have
been so blessed to inherit from our
forefathers. May freedom continue to be
a legacy passed down to our children
and the chains of repression never
enslave this great country.
God bless America!

asked me to come and identify her.
As I arrived at the scene, I observed that her car had been
totally demolished. Several police cars were at the scene and
had blocked off the street because she had struck a light pole
at a high rate of speed. Amazingly, she appeared unhurt as
the police officers were giving her different sobriety tests,
which she all failed.
After providing a positive identification, giving a recorded statement and getting more documentation, I returned back to my
office. Still in shock about all of the early morning events,
the damage to my car and the soreness I feeling, once
again I began to converse with The Lord.
From Pastor Andrew & Ann
Marie Bills

Unforeseen occurrences, tragic experiences, bad decisions,
comical accidents, bad luck, fate or negative chance encounters have all been explained in this world, in the natural, as
“Being in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
In John 16:33 NASB, Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world
you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the
world."
While this world is filled with forces of darkness, misery, untold
suffering and all other types of ungodly activity, as believers
we still have “The favor of God in our lives.”
Though we as believers are exposed to a variety of calamities
in this world, I am fully convinced that nothing ever happens
to us in this world that “catches God off guard.”
Is There Any Such Thing As Being In
The Wrong Place At The Wrong Time?
Suddenly, I was hit from behind by a young drunk driver
as I was stopped at a red light this past Saturday morning while driving to my office. It was 5:30 AM, still dark
and very quiet, when I suddenly felt the impact.
I had been praising The Lord in song and worshiping up to
that point, when I suddenly felt the impact of her vehicle
from the rear.
As I slowly got out and walked to her car, I asked for her
license and registration. While she was heavily intoxicated, she kept murmuring, tried to argue and refused to
comply. As I quickly wrote down her front license plate
number and dialed 911 to inform the police, she immediately sped off rapidly into the darkness, running the red
light.
Within 2 minutes several police arrived and I informed them
of her condition saying, “She’s either going to hit someone else or hurt herself.” So, I quickly prayed and asked
God to stop her from hurting any other people.
After completing police report, I left the scene and finally
arrived at my office 10 minutes later. The very moment I sat
down at my desk, my telephone rang. It was the police!
There had been another accident about a mile down the
same street with the same young drunk driver and they
In Job 13:15, Job declared, “Though he slay me, yet will I
trust in him.” Despite everything that had come against him,
Job held on to his testimony. Without any glimpse or appearance of hope in this world, Job was yet determined
to believe God for His intervention and eternal salvation.
When things come against you and you don’t understand
why, are your eyes also fixed upon Him?
I can only give Christ praise! For in all things I recognize
that He alone is my salvation, healer, deliverer, protector and
much more. I can only rejoice, despite this incident, because
His amazing grace had once again been demonstrated by
the wonderful hand of God.
THEREFORE, HAVE FAITH IN GOD!

Thanksgiving Feast
By Cheryl Stegall Gipson
I share this story every year at Thanksgiving because it is a reminder from our yesterdays of the joy when
families get together and share the holiday. It is also a reminder that gluttony at such a feast remains a sin and even a
child must learn to abstain from trying to stuff as tightly as the
turkey that gives such pleasure among those who partake on
this day of thankfulness.
I call it “The Great Transition!” It occurs when the
gobbler walking on two legs is transformed into the steaming
drumsticks sitting on the dinner table. Thanksgiving! It is
among the “greatest memories from my moments of yesterday.”
I recall one Thanksgiving in Matador, Texas when
we gathered at the home of a friend. The table was spread
bountifully with all the wonderful goodies we love to eat during
the holidays. Now gluttony was not a word that I had learned
to spell at the time and my eyes were big as saucers as I surveyed the glorious array of tempting foods. As is common
with a kid, I made a decision right then to eat until I was so
stuffed I could not move. I was totally unaware of the fact that
sin was involved in my decision and gluttony was a term I
would discover later down the road! Yes, there would be no
turning back, I had a mission to accomplish and I would not
leave that table without knowing that I had not let the ladies
down who had prepared all the sumptuous dishes. I would
make them proud!
Once we were called to the table, I filled my plate
with all that my mother would allow me to...and then some.
There was turkey and dressing with giblet grave, cranberry
sauce, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, corn,
fruit salad, hot rolls, and more dessert than you might see in the
local bakery. I ate every bite and then went for a refill. I understand quite well now the meaning of the term, “comfort food!” I
was comforting myself to the point of a “drunken food high” if
that is possible. It was glorious! I still have flashbacks of the
aftermath of that action and I am amazed that I survived.
Finally, I had finished off my second or third piece of
pie, which I am sure my mother was totally unaware of, when I
found that I had a lot in common with the turkey. I too, was so
stuffed that just as he had lain so quiet and still upon the platter
unable to move….so was my predicament. If someone had
yelled, “fire” it would have been my day to die because I was so
full, that walking seemed a present impossibility. I sat there
quite still, trying to figure out what to do next. My tummy was
giving me pain...and I no longer thought that this was as much
fun as I had anticipated earlier in the day. I was beyond miserable.
I waited until I thought I could manage to work my
way out of the chair and decided that perhaps if I could make it
outside, I could walk around the house a few times and it would
get better. That, I must say was one of the hardest things I
think I ever did in my life. Men have conquered mountains in
the freezing snow, driven wagons across the plains withstanding attacks of Indians and outlaws, but to me at this moment,
none had faced a more precarious situation than I was in on this
Thanksgiving day. If my mom found out that I had filled my
belly with enough food for five people, she would tan my hide
when we got back over to our place. (It was legal and acceptable to do so in that era of time.) I had to manage to make my
way through this dark valley alone. Otherwise I might never live
to be a mother with my own children sneaking extra pieces of
pie on the holidays.
You see, when you are a child in a group of many
adults, it is easy to get lost in the crowd. You learn how to move
like a stalker, quietly inching your way around to where the
goodies are and when no one is watching, you slip another
turkey leg or bowl of fruit salad. If you’re lucky you manage to
swipe the bowl with the whipped cream and hide behind the
barn to finish it off. I was good! However, I felt like I might die
that day as a result of overeating. If I ever got to the place I felt
“normal” again, I vowed that I would always be moderate in the
servings of food I ingested during the holidays.
I finally managed to maneuver out the back door and
began to slowly move along the side of the house. It was painful. I was so full that every step I took hurt. I felt that I had no
other choice. If I tried to take a nap I might not ever wake up as
I was feeling quite drugged from the carbohydrate high I was
on...although in those days we did not know what a carbohydrate was. I made the first lap, then the second…..I kept moving and walking until I began to feel better. I am not sure how
long I was out there, making circles around the house, but I
finally was able to sit down and breathe without pain. I never
thought about it until now, but I wonder if any of the neighbors
saw that little girl walking around the house all afternoon. Perhaps no one noticed but I can tell you that I never overate like
that again in my life. I was thankful that Thanksgiving that I
lived through it to see another day. It certainly was an experience I will never forget and has helped me to understand why
gluttony is a sin. I sinned big time that Thanksgiving day long
ago and the price paid was enough punishment to last a life
time.
Wishing you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving.
May you be blessed with the love of family and
friends and know the love of Jesus who is
passionately in love with you!

It is Possible
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who being in very nature God, did not consider equality
with God something to be grasped, but made Himself
nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made
in human likeness. Philippians 2:5-7
What does it mean to you to have the same attitude or
the likeness of Christ? I believe so many times we think
we must be as good and perfect as Christ. Just what is
the attitude of Christ Jesus? Was it to come to earth and
show us what perfect looks like? Was it to hold us accountable for not being exactly like Him? I do not believe
that is the case.
How often do we hear in the scripture Jesus talk about
His perfection? Even here as Paul speaks of Christ He
speaks that Christ Himself did not consider equality with
the Father something to be grasped. Christ Himself did
not see Himself as righteous and holy as the Father.
Then how can we even consider that He expects us to be
perfect without sin. Rather he had an attitude of humility
and of servant hood.
As we look further in this passage in verse 8 Paul states
that even though Christ took on the appearance of man,
He humbled Himself and became obedient to death and
even death on the cross. So for so many who would take
the Ten Commandments and try to check each and every
one of the commands off everyday trying to be perfect
and sinless like Christ you are missing the boat.
Yes we are to strive to be holy and righteous in our living
but not in the way of the law but in the attitude of humility
and obedience. Even Christ who has the fullness of God
in Him and all authority in heaven and earth did not consider himself equal to the Father. He had an understanding of who the Father truly is in His very nature. In His
very nature Almighty God is the one great “I Am”. The self
-existent God who does not need man and his hands to
do anything for Him as if He even needed man.
The LORD did create man. He is the creator and we are
His creature. Our very existence depends on the fact that
God created! Now Jesus is the begotten Son and even
though He is precious to Jehovah and the exact likeness
of God He is a servant of the Father. We are not looking
at the unblemished lamb side of Christ when we speak of
the same attitude we are speaking of His humility in light
of God and His desire to please the Father being obedient even unto death, death on the cross. There is no one
on this earth who would chose to die by death on the
cross. In obedience to Christ, some have chosen in the
light of certain death to share in the suffering of Christ to
die on the cross.
Verse 9 of this passage says, “Therefore God exalted him
(Jesus) to the highest place and gave Him the name that is
above every name.” I do not believe that God is looking for
perfection, I believe that He is looking for those who will
humble themselves and become an obedient servant of the
Gospel of Jesus Christ! We will never be perfect in our lives
because of the free will that makes us self-centered naturally. It will take supernatural power of the love of Jesus and
the Father for us to truly become holy and righteous. It was
the supernatural power of the voice of love that created us
in God’s image and it will take the supernatural power of
God’s love to restore the broken creation due to sin.
It will take supernatural power of love to make it possible for
us to have the attitude of Christ. To be perfect for us is possible for God but in our human power it is impossible. Jesus
said, “As the Father has loved me, I have loved you. Now
remain in my love.” (John 15:9) “This is love for God: to
obey His commands. And His commands are not burdensome.” It is possible for us to have the attitude of Christ!

5 Tech Myths You Hear All The Time
1. JUST DELETE FILES YOU NO LONGER WANT
Ad Prices Begin At

I'm sure you know that if you delete a file on a PC or Mac, it doesn't
really go away. The file is in the Trash or Recycle Bin until you empty
it. However, even after you empty the trash, the file still isn't really
gone. It's sitting on your hard drive until another bit of data covers it
up. Until that happens - which can be minutes or months - anyone
with a little time and a free program like Recuva can get it completely
back. If you really want to wipe out a file or folder, you need a program like Eraser for Windows or Permanent Eraser for Mac. But be
careful, once they are gone, they are really gone forever!
2. AN LED TV IS BETTER THAN AN LCD TV
LED or LCD? What's the difference? Actually, there is none. LED
and LCD refer to completely different parts of a TV. LCD refers to the
technology in the TV screen. Its competitors are plasma, which is just
about gone, and OLED, which is amazing but still really expensive.
LED refers to the LCD screen's backlight. Backlights used to be coldcathode fluorescent lamps. So, in the end, it's really no choice at all;
every TV is an LED LCD TV.
3. IT'S OK TO LEAVE YOUR LAPTOP PLUGGED IN ALL THE
TIME
I find it funny that so many people buy laptops and then always leave
them in the same place just like a desktop computer. That means
they always leave them plugged in as well. Unfortunately, that can be
a problem for the laptop's battery. Most modern laptops have circuitry
that keeps the battery just under 100% when it's plugged in. That
means there's less change of the battery overheating and catching
fire. However, lithium-ion batteries last longest when they stay between 20% and 80% capacity. When they spend a lot of time outside
of those percentages, it shortens the battery's life. Also, a battery
that's charging while the laptop is running will be hotter than usual.
That shortens the overall battery life. So, if your laptop is always
sitting the same place, it's a good idea to unplug it every now and
then and let the battery take over. Or you can> remove the battery
totally and leave it plugged in all the time.
4. ALWAYS SHUT DOWN YOUR COMPUTER AT NIGHT
This myth goes all the way back to the early days of computers. Back
then, computer parts - especially hard drives - wore out much faster
than they do today. So, the idea was that to make your computer last
longer, you should always> shut it down at night. And many people
still say that. Of course, modern computers have more-robust parts,
which means you can let them run for years with little to no problem.
This mostly comes down to preference. If you want your computer to
do things like back up, update or other intensive tasks, you can
schedule them at night while you sleep. If you're concerned about
saving energy, turn it off.
5. YOU'LL KNOW WHEN YOU HAVE A VIRUS
Many people think viruses work like the one in the 1996 blockbuster
Independence Day." When it triggers, you get a laughing skull and
crossbones on your screen. Or maybe you'll see regular computer
glitches, missing files or other signs something is wrong. Viruses like
that do exist, but many newer computer viruses do just the opposite.
They hide so well you never know they're there. That way, they can
steal your information, send spam, work with other infected computers to attack corporate or government networks or perform other
sneaky tricks without you noticing. That's why you really need to have
up-to-date security software installed and running.
