How to be a Negotiation Ninja for Artists and Creative Types - Douglas
Library 10:00am-12:00pm
Presented by professional attorney and negotiation coach Katie Lane, this
workshop will teach you how to effectively handle negotiations with clients,
collaborators, bosses and adversaries. This program takes place in the
Douglas Library Meeting Room before the library opens. Doors will be
unlocked at 9:45am. Presented in collaboration with the Friends of the Juneau
Public Library and Alaska Robotics.

Character Design from the Inside Out Drawing Workshop - Douglas
Library, 1:30-3:30pm
Work with professional comic artist Dylan Meconis to build and develop characters who will generate their own original stories. You'll use ideas and exercises
from theatrical costume design, Swedish storytelling games, science fiction writing, and yes, even comic books to find out. Bring a notebook/sketchbook and
your favorite sketching tools. This program is presented in collaboration with
the Friends of the Juneau Public Library and Alaska Robotics.

Historytime—Juneau-Douglas City Museum, 11:00am
Learn a little history and more about our town through books and activities in
and around the Museum. Historytime is open to all ages of children (and
adults!) capable of sitting for half an hour listening to and discussing stories in
the company of their peers.
Family Night For Preschoolers Ages 3-5—Downtown Library, 5:30pm
After hitting the polls head to the library to let your child cast their own vote as
pumpkins and apples duel it out in the race of the century. Guest speaker Mara
Early will be on hand to talk about voting and to help us tally the results of
which fall treat will rank as Juneau’s choice. Crafts and a light will be provided
and all children receive a free book. Questions? Call AEYC at 789-1235.
Science Friday: Legos—Valley Library, 1:00pm
Thanks to a gift from Legos and the American Library Association, we now
offer Legos for your creative play. Join us for the grand launch. This program

Meet professional comic artist Dylan Meconis whose work is being exhibited at
Alaska Robotics. She and Katie Lane, an attorney and negotiation coach who
works primary with artists and freelancers, will be discussing their current projects. Be ready for a lively discussion about comics, being a professional artist,
and more.

Join Joan Cushing, playwright/composer of The Christmas Doll, on a musical
journey from page to stage. How does a scene in a book become an action sequence or a song in the a play? We'll also create a heartwarming craft inspired
by The Christmas Doll, while learning about how popular shows are made--and
maybe even giving it a try ourselves. Light supper served.

Join Joan Cushing, playwright/composer of The Christmas Doll, on a musical
journey from page to stage. Learn tricks of the composer/adapter's trade, from
one of the most widely produced playwrights in youth theatre today. We'll
brainstorm ideas, devise a script, assign roles, throw together costumes and
props, and finally put the stories and songs on their feet. This fun workshop for
students aged 9 and up will conclude with a free "show and tell" for family and
friends. Free but limited to 15 participants. Call 586-0434 to advance register.
