EASTON, PENNSYLVANIA
NOVEMBER 16, 2014
My Dear Parishioners,
As we approach the end of the
liturgical year, we continue to
hear about Jesus’ message of the
end times. Today, we hear a familiar story, St. Matthew’s parable of the talents. It
involves a man going on a journey and placing his
property in the care of his servants. The property
that he entrusts is a talent, an extremely valuable
amount of money. The master has prudently decided
how much his servants are to receive, each according
to his ability. He places his faith in his workers and
expects great things of them. We know that we are
the servants in the parable. Our Master calls upon
us to practice good stewardship,
This story also challenges us to look at the wisdom we exercise in using the talents and gifts that
have been entrusted to us. It does not matter that
each of us have different abilities. The expectation
is the same – that we make full use of all that is
available to us. Certainly, this message is not new to
us. But today we are challenged to listen to it with
new ears. The Lord is challenging us to take a risk
with our talents. It challenges us to look for new and
fresh ways of using our abilities in the service of
God. It dares us to find original and unselfish ways
of giving of ourselves to others.
The failing of the third servant was his unwillingness to act. May we never make that mistake in our
lives! We can affect the world in which we live by our
generosity. Perhaps it seems that the problems of
the world are so much larger than any one of us. But
we can make a difference. We can take the risk of
giving of ourselves, giving of our time, talent and
treasure, even when it seems we must take a risk.
The Lord has given each of us so much! May we
come to appreciate more fully the gifts that we have
been given! May we not shrink from the challenge of
taking a risk in reaching out to others with the tender compassion of the Lord himself!
Sincerely yours,
Monsignor Radocha

Rite of Acceptance/
Rite of Welcome
The first of the public rituals celebrated in the
RCIA is the Rite of Acceptance into the order
of Catechumens (for unbaptized Catechumens)
and the Rite of Welcome
(for baptized adult candidates preparing to
celebrate Confirmation and Eucharist in the
Catholic Church).
On Sunday, Nov. 30th, our candidates join us
at the 10:30 a.m. Mass to celebrate these rites.
Each candidate is asked if they are ready to
accept the Gospel Way of Life. The candidates
are also marked by the sign of the cross by our
priest and their sponsors. With this ancient
mark, they are claimed for Christ.
Please keep our Inquirers in your thoughts and
prayers in the coming months.

THE WAY HOME
St. Jane’s will soon be initiating a program to welcome inactive and returning Catholics home. The
Way Home is a program we will be offering to assist
these people in finding their way back to full participation in a Church that has missed them greatly. As a
parish family, we all need to be aware of those
around us, at Mass, in our school, or in our neighborhoods, who, for whatever reason, have stopped coming, or seldom come, to Mass. A welcoming smile,
an encouraging word, or a friendly “hello” in the
Gathering Space can give a heart on the edge, the
encouragement it needs to seek out “The Way
Home.” Please pray for these potential participants
and for those parishioners who have offered their
time and talent to be on this Evangelization Team.
Look for continuing announcements in the bulletin
about this exciting program.

A PLACE AT THE TABLE
Fifty million people in America—one in four children—don’t know where their next meal is coming
from. The film, “A Place at the Table” portrays what
it is like to be “food insecure” in America today.
This powerful, award winning film reveals how
three families struggle with food insecurity, describes the history of the problem in our nation, and
suggests some ways that we could improve access to
healthy food for all Americans.
Hunger affects all communities – urban, suburban,
rural, and even college campuses. The hidden reality
is that hunger is local. In October, the Easton Area
Society of St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry served
248 families—more than 972 people. If you volunteer at the food pantry, or one of the homeless shelters, you should see this documentary. Encourage
your friends to come along with you and learn more
about how hunger poses serious economic, social
and cultural implications for our nation.
The Easton Hunger Coalition, which represents all
food pantries and soup kitchens in Easton, is making
this film available. It will be presented in the Monsignor Gobitis Meeting Room on Monday, November 24th at 1:30 PM and 7:00 PM. A panel discussion will follow.
For more information please contact Tony Fague at
610-253-8410 or [email protected] or Dennis and
Ellen Potter at 610-253-0814 or [email protected].
